We have lots of, unwritten, rules but all of them are based on politeness and respecting other people's sensitivities - and keeping our house tidy(ish), clean and ruly (my opposite of unruly :heehee:).

We've not allowed smoking indoors for the last 43 years and I banned it for staff and customers in 1980.

No shoes to be worn, past the inside front door mat, except for medical reasons.

No phones, or equivalent, allowed at the table during meals (unless expecting an important call/message or on call).

Children sit at the table during meals (or a separate table if enough of them) and cannot leave the table without permission. Using the words 'please' and 'thank you' are mandatory (is that a sexist word? :snork:).

Any calls or messages outside of that time must be taken outside of the area where we are sitting, chatting etc.

I was leading a group of friends on a walk in the Lake District when one of our friends kept texting, non-stop for the first half hour. The texts were social and not business so I told her she had to turn the phone off or I wouldn't let her walk with us. She nearly had a nervous breakdown. Her husband (a doctor) said that she was addicted to her phone and wouldn't even turn it off at night! She's no longer allowed on holidays with us. :noidea:

No getting drunk, even at parties.

We encourage friendliness, discussion, banter (including friendly insults) and people have the run of our place within all these rules.

Children are given their own room to play in but no fighting or shouting (loud discussion is allowed ). Playing in the garden is fine but no going into flower beds except to collect a ball - which has to be done carefully.

Most of these sort of things are just simple good manners that we were brought up with.

President of the Grumpy Old Man's Club :old:

@Beckie76 As you know me, you get free entry into the club. :dbgrtmb: :snork:

Ball games are only allowed at the bottom of the garden - fruit trees/wild area :blue thumb:

I've had many a to do with nephews and nieces and now Gt Nephews and Nieces ,and even adult friends, mobile phones which I detest in the home situation or out on a social gathering too,I think it's down right ignorant if you ask me:old:...

And what's all this ...expecting food on their lap:mad:....my parents have been the kindest most loving parents there are but we never left the table until we asked and then it was 'please may I leave the table'....we just didn't do it....We would never point a finger that wasn't allowed and as for answering back:yikes:...I've had to chastise little ones for speaking to their parents in such a manner but they seem to look at me as though I'm from another planet ,even the parents too:rolleyespink:
I won't even allow my dogs or my chooks to misbehave :old:...

              What a horrible woman:heehee:

Oh my goodness my friends I'm exhausted! :snooze: I'm already in bed :old:. I've almost filled the blooming skip! I might need another! & I have five bags of garden rubbish for the tip! :thud:
I've got on so well today & I have to say I'm really pleased with my efforts :dbgrtmb:, I've even cleared out Kevs shed with his help & permission.....workshop still needs loads of work but we have made a start, one of my spare bedrooms which is the dumping ground has been sorted & the old paperwork has been shredded  I've cut the grass & weeded the back flowerbeds & made a start on the veggie patch. I'm off into work tomorrow (for a rest! :heehee:) then it's full steam ahead on Sunday!
Isn't it lovely when some of the things which have been annoying you are finally sorted, :hapydancsmil:

I must switch this phone off now it's certainly sleep time for me!

Woo...How's Mrs Woo doing? hope she is feeling better and you and Miss Woo are doing OK too:grphg:

Well two tubs of gritty Cockles (the sand really makes them:snork:) an ice cream and some candy floss (I gave the hay a miss:biggrin:) a quick paddle...I wish someone had told the North Sea it was summer...Brrrr and a lovely 'refreshing' walk along the sand,(it was a bit nippy) we headed home and slept like babies. You can't beat the sea air for a good nights sleep:dbgrtmb: Archi and Theo also had a lovely time romping around in the water.I was all set for getting some good photos and when the dogs were chasing around I got the camera out ...Beep beep beep:doh:...flat as a pancake...I wouldn't have minded but it had been on charge best part of the day:gaah: maybe it would have helped if I'd turned the socket on :doh:...

Annnyway...the bread is 'knocked back' and I'm waiting for the clock to go round before I get the clippers out to cut back some Ivy (too early yet don't want to wake the neighbours) then I'm going to make a start on a little seating area I've got planned to incorporate a special climbing Rose:thumbsup:

It looks like it's going to be a sunny one:dancy: so enjoy it everyone:dbgrtmb:
