            Good day everyone
We had a wonderful thunderstorm last night. Lots of lightning and noise. And of course lots of free water. :)

Going out of town today to stop by a car show and then visit a cheese factory. This place has true aged cheddar. Very very sharp. And I shall buy some for my friend in the home as it is one of his favourite treats.

            Have a safe day please!

                Aloha everyone,

There wasn't enough rain yesterday but it was better than the big nothing we've had for a lot of the summer. :blue thumb: It rained again at 5.30 and now we're in for a sunny and comfortable day with a heatwave from Tuesday.

After another day of clearing and cutting back the bonfire heap has climbed to head height again. Wheelie bins are full and bags of weeds waiting for empty bins, but also for neighbour to put his half empty bin out so we can fill it.

Sold a load more beans yesterday, made a very nice rhubarb sponge and had a chat with Sarafi. :heehee:

Keep well and have a great day

                Aloha!

@Michael Hewett Our council are very good with collections but they found it a necessity. We get our green waste collected every week (kitchen waste is included in the green bin) and rubbish and recycling are alternate weeks.

They dropped the green waste collection to once a fortnight some years ago but brought it back to weekly after only two months of green waste fly tipping on the roadsides. Apparently this waste a deliberately arranged fly tipping publicised through social media. The council were warned it would happen by anonymous calls to the local press.

About a year later they tried charging for green waste bags but came across the same threat. They did an online survey and decided to drop the idea of charging.

Every household is allowed one wheelie bin per week (we have special dispensation for two bins a week) and the local villages have a bin lorry that comes round every Sunday from April to November. It stops for 45 minutes, in a set position, in each village and people can bring their green waste to it.

All these measures have enabled the council to exceed their recycling targets and their CO2 savings. It has also dropped the fly tipping to almost zero (they still get some non-green waste fly tipping but people are fairly good at spotting and reporting the tippers).

Our council tax is quite high, which brings out a militant attitude in the residents if the council doesn't do a good job. If they do a good job then we're happy to pay the price. :blue thumb:

There are two tips within reach of us. One is in a town seven miles away and the other in a town fifteen miles away. They are very busy with queues sometimes of 50+ cars. The congestion caused if that number increases would create other problems for the council. So it's an overall gain for the council.

                          Morning early people :)

Got toothache this morning so not firing on all thrusters

Dorset Council are removing all the bottle, tin, paper and plastic bins from the supermarket car parks, saying that it's all covered by kerbside collections now

They seem to have forgotten that this is a holiday area and that thousands of folk don't have a kerbside to collect from. The banks in the car parks are often overflowing in the summer. So the general waste bins will be full of stuff that previously could have been recycled.

Seems like a backward step to me :dunno:

Have a good day everyone and have a happy Senior Citizens Day :spinning:

We have lots of fly tipping on the hills around here. The area is carved up between 4 different councils and they just don't cooperate with each other ...
