      Aloha everyone,

It's bright and sunny this morning and, hopefully, Michael will turn up - but it won't be until at least 10 a.m. We have reminded his dad that he's supposed to be here today. Michael was working three doors away from us on Friday and wheel-barrowed all his tools to our shed that evening. So he can't do any work anywhere else until he has turned up here. Until he gets his vehicle going his dad has to bring him here. When he finishes working I take him and his tools up the road to one of the pubs in the village where his dad drinks every night! They don't live in the village but in the town seven miles away.

We should have the garden looking neat and tidy before Christmas and I shall then start on the tedious job of scraping the moss out of the flower beds. We get loads of moss and it's my regular job throughout the winter. I can't do more than 30 minutes at a time because of my back but I usually get about three sessions each day if I've rested my back enough. It seems silly that I can't do more when I have no trouble mowing for four hours non-stop. :noidea:

Keep well and have a great day

      Aloha!

        Morning early people :)

Finally got some sunshine :yay: Bout time, low voltage alarm kept going off yesterday

You need to convince a few Blackbirds that there's something tasty down there, not sure what the trigger is, but there's a certain time of the year they decide to throw all the moss out of the gutters and onto the pavement down here

I'll be in the workshop making Christmas presents today if anyone wants me :snorky:

Have a good day everyone :spinning:

I would need to get the blackbirds to scrape out the moss from the beds and drop it in next door's garden :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

                    Good evening fellow WW'ers

It has been a "milestone" day here today: #1 son finally, finally, began full time work, in a (grad. scheme) Management position, with a large, very well known, corporation  :hapydancsmil: :hapfeet: :yahoo: It has been a long time in coming!! :phew: He has a one and half hour journey to complete each way but, once he begins earning, he can begin driving lessons. One day at a time for now though :heehee: They have invited him to their Management Christmas Party (which is tomorrow) and that is quite local, so its very do-able. I'll probably drive him there and his Dad finishes work around midnight, so he's sure of a lift home too :blue thumb:

In the meantime, and very late for our household, I finally persuaded Mr "M" to drag out the decorations from the loft; he scarpered off to work very soon after which left me to get on with the decorating  Five hours it took!! :thud: But the dining room and sitting room both look suitably festive now (and quite cosy too). It has occurred to me that I may need some more decorations for the hallway and stairs  but I'll fudge it this year by taking a bit here and a bit there from the other rooms :heehee: A couple, or four, years ago, I bought a lovely nutcracker ornament and gradually, the collection (for want of a better word) is growing, so now I have them lined up on the dining room mantel shelf and looking quite colourful. I think I shall keep on collecting them when I see them and then I can have another display in the main hallway too.

Anyway, that's enough waffling on from me ...

That was the other day here ... I wondered what was going on when I felt something on my head ... looked down and there on the patio were lots of blobs of moss :heehee: I'm very grateful they are saving me a job by clearing the guttering :dbgrtmb: I know they will do it again in the Spring time too ;)

                    Smiles and vibes xxMxx

                        Aloha everyone,

I have a bit of running (actually driving and walking) around today. I've some errands to do and then I have to rush up to the village hall and close the car park barrier. We get a slight problem with the car park as it's a private one with a right of way for a couple of bungalows at the far end. The whole area is a complicated situation with the land the village hall is on belonging to the church, the building belongs to the village hall trust (a charity), the driveway through the middle of the car park belongs to the trust but with a right of way for the residents, the car park itself belongs totally to the trust. There's also a public footpath running through it.

There wouldn't be any problems but the village school is next door and the parents think that they have the right to use the car park! Over the years this has caused a lot of problems with the extra heavy use of the car park damaging the surface and some of the mums (yes, CCTV has shown it's only females :dunno:) damaging the building (it's made of wood) by their very poor reversing. Also, there have been injured children from them running through the car park whilst the mums are manoeuvring (one of our friend's kids ended up with a broken leg).

The parents only use the car park at drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon but they sometimes cause trouble for the people who have hired the hall and paid for the use of the car park. The damage to the surface cost £17,000 pounds to repair and £5,000 for the building repairs. So the Trust put in an electronic barrier and it closes just for those two periods each day (8.00 - 9.30 and 14.00 - 15.30). Residents have 'zappers' to operate the barrier during those hours (it lifts automatically for vehicles coming out of the car park).

The system works very well except this time of year. This week the school has it's concerts with four short performances per day ranging between 1 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. I hire the hall every Tuesday afternoon and every Wednesday evening for the bridge club so we have a problem today. As the barrier comes down at 2 p.m. and the concerts start at 1 p.m. the car park would be full of cars when my members turn up at 1.30. We fill the car park completely so need it to be empty when we arrive. About 50 of the members are aged between 80 and 98 and many of those are infirm so need to park in the car park and the rest (we get about 90 people each Tuesday) also have the right to park there as that is part of what they are paying for.

So I need to go up there at midday and override the controls (I have a special key to do that :blue thumb:) and then go back and raise the barrier for the members and stop any non-members coming in. This means that I shall get some abuse from angry parents . It's not a nice job to have and I volunteer to do it for other hirers as well . I do get thanks from the residents at the end of the car park as, before the barrier was put in, parents used to block their driveways or even park on them!! I can handle the abuse with no problem but I'm not too happy to be standing out there when it's raining or there's a cold wind.

I feel a lot better for my little moan :phew: :heehee:

Keep well and have a great day

                        Aloha!

                                Aloha everyone,

@wiseowl bouncability abounds here today - and the sun is already shining.

The car park was only a small problem yesterday and there was no rain or cold wind. :blue thumb: A few abusive parents were handled with a smile (notes had been sent, by the head teacher, to all parents telling them not to try and park in the hall car park :nonofinger:) and me standing in their way. One mother was rather annoyed and said that she had been given permission to use the car park (she has a disabled child at the school) and has been using it for four years. I asked her whether she had forgotten that she was given permission, except on a Tuesday as the whole of the car park was needed. She denied it and said she would complain to the village hall trust executive committee. That's me!!! :snorky:

She said that she needs to park there as her child is disabled. Just then one of the bridge club members was walking by and interjected. She said that she also has a disabled child (at the village school but a few years ago) and when the child needed picking up she drove her car from the village car park (300yds away) to the school car park (always full of staff cars), and blocked the cars whilst she went into the school to get her child. The woman shut up then!

What made it even more of a cheek is that her husband was also trying to 'park in the hall car park to pick up his disabled child'!

I'll have a similar problem there tonight as they have another concert. Oh Joy!!! :rasp:

Keep well and have a great day

                                Aloha!
