    Good day
@Flumpy that is absolutely horrible. I cannot imagine the rate your heart must have been racing because of running and the terror. I'm glad to hear you're moving from wherever these fellows felt free to roam and vandalize!

@shiney cheese on toast sounds lovely. Perhaps that's what my mother taught me to make instead of US style grilled cheese. She'd put the cheese between two slices of bread and toast them under the oven broiler element, both sides. Lovely and crispy and not oily - yum!

I've got a day of puttering ahead of me. Three loads of laundry today, and vacuuming the upstairs whilst the machines are doing the hard work. Then it's outside. Sam will be in charge of stoking the wood oven and filling little pots with soil after it's been baked. I'll be the pot cleaner - getting the newly emptied ones cleaned up and ready for refilling. :) I'll also be taking some cuttings of various plants that I hope to propagate. :blue thumb:

Have a lovely day all and please play safe :spinning:

@CanadianLori Although it's not what I did today I still think this makes the best toasted sandwiches ever :dbgrtmb:. It's cast iron, almost 70 years old and very easy to clean - rinse under hot tap and a wash with a little washing up liquid, dry off on the gas.

Good morning, or afternoon or evening wherever you are!
@shiney that looks like a fun shape too. Hopefully next time you make a sandwich with it, you'll maybe take a picture and share it too please?

The clouds are scudding across the sky but the guessers have told us it is not supposed to rain until later. We do need the free water but I also need the time to get a few things done outside before things get wet. Crossing my fingers it won't start until later this afternoon.

This morning is my usual baking, laundering bed linens, washing floors and all that whilst watching my beloved show. And again, I hope Jeff gets his this week!

And I just received an email from a nursery only about 1/2 hour from me that they do have a Rozanne Cranesbill. I'm :hapydancsmil: so will try to get there tomorrow afternoon to grab it :)

Have a lovely day all and please play safe

@shiney oops on my part, I can see the top of the sandwich in your picture. Is it easy to plate, being raised on both sides ?

Yes, as it gets toasted the same on both sides (you turn it over during cooking) you just hold the thing by its wooden handles and tip it out. It seals itself round the edges as its cooking.

The other good thing with it is that you can have the bread sliced as thickly as you like. Being thicker it gives the bread a nice toasted outside and a softer inside.

For toasted cheese you butter the outside of the bread, lay one slice (butter side down) in the toaster, add the cheese and then top it with the second slice (butter side up) - like greasing a baking tin - then close the top and if you have thick bread you need to squeeze the handles tight. :blue thumb:

The butter stops it sticking and gives a golden tasty outer coating to the sandwich.

If using egg as a filling you need to lay the first slice in, add the egg, place it on the gas until the heat has partially cooked the egg. Then you add the top slice and close it and turn it over and cook the other slice. That way you don't break the yolk when squeezing it together. You end up with a nicely toasted sandwich with the white thoroughly cooked and the yolk still soft.

With both ways of doing it you can open the top to see how well the toast has cooked, close it, turn it over and check the other side. All low tech and can even be used on an open fire. :hapydancsmil:

              Aloha everyone,

Just returned from town with my shopping and it's getting just a bit light outside. I was greeted by Sarafi as I got out of my car. He spends most of the night asleep in a chair under our pergola.

Easy shopping at this time of day and no traffic into and out of town.

              Keep well

              Aloha!

Just returned with the shopping before 7am..! @shiney
                You shame me lol.
Is Sarafi your cat?.. He might be finding it a tad cooler outside these recent nights.
Our cat likes an arm chair inside but she's 18 and not so tough as she used to be.

Under our current restrictions since 15 September till 15 October our shops can't open till 10am and close at 8pm. There is no panic or queues ... different mindset here.

There's not been any panic or real queues round here but I like to avoid the bad traffic congestion we get (they've been doing roadworks/improvements around here for three years!) and I keep away from other people as well.

No, his home is four doors away but he thinks he owns us. He spends between 8 and 24 hours in our garden with us each day. He has taken over one of the chairs in the pergola and gets into the summerhouse whenever he can. We have the summerhouse door open whenever we're in there as that is where we meet friends (distancing properly) if the weather is not good enough for outside. We also have the door and window open to keep a flow of air.

Yesterday Mrs Shiney was having a back massage in the summerhouse and sarafi decided he would take over. Mrs Shiney said he did a good job walking up and down her back and pawing it well (like you see quite often in youtube clips of cats massaging other cats and dogs)

Oh @shiney . you've just triggered some wonderful memories for me with those pictures of your toastie maker.
My mom had one of these and would make the best cheese and onion toasties with it! Ours is long gone now (goodness knows where) but I wouldn't be able to use it on a leccy hob I don't think anyway. We've no gas in our little hamlet unless you buy the tanked stuff! lol

She used to make an awesome strawberry & banana toastie as well. Cor, I'd give anything to be able to tuck into one of those now.

                            Good day,
The weather guessers told us it would start pouring at midnight last night and continue until Tuesday night. It is very sunny without a cloud in sight. Normally I'd be grateful that they were wrong about predicting bad weather but we do need the free water!

@shiney Sarafi certainly has an advantage in massage having four paws instead of two!

I have a designer coming around this morning with a cushion for me to do a second time. She needs the fabric changed as the last cover was done some 6 years ago and the room colours have been changed. Should be fun. As I recall, it is the shape of a giant stop sign/septigon.. is that a word? Anyway, lots of fun :)

I've also located a nursery where I can purchase a Cranesbill, Rozanne for a bare spot around the base of the hisbiscus in my front garden. Too exciting!!

Have a lovely day all and please play safe :)
