I still don't see the necessity to keep it on at night - unless you may be expecting an important call (e.g. someone out driving late at night and may need help). I don't think there's anything wrong with texting someone in the middle of the night because you're happy or excited as the recipient shouldn't have their phone switched on. That way the good news will be there when they wake.

I remember, not so long ago, phoning the plumber that I use - during the day. He answered it after about six rings and sounded quite sleepy. It turned out that he was on honeymoon in Barbados and it was the middle of the night there!!!

When I used to go on holiday I never told my managers where I was going or gave a contact number. Their standing instructions were that if a problem arose "deal with it!". For a real emergency they had my sister's phone number. If a problem arose they were to say to themselves (if they weren't sure how to deal with it) "what would Shiney do?". In 44 years nothing was considered serious enough to disturb me - even a burglary.

Most of our friends have mobiles but only one, that I know, never turns her's off - and that's because she doesn't know how to :heehee:. At night she puts it in her bag and in the microwave :hate-shocked: :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

      Good Day
I laid in for a bit reading a book on my Kobo. I think it's pretty good who dun it because I'm 3/4 the way through and I've still got three suspects in mind, or else I'm becoming dim witted. :th scifD36:

Checked my seedlings and made sure everything was watered and whilst down there threw load number one in the clothes washer. I've decided that this morning I will start pulling the furniture out from the walls up here on the second floor and do a thorough vacuuming and only then have the main floor to get up to snuff tomorrow during my show. I believe I can get that done and be ready to head to Fabricland for their 50% of sale. I'll try to leave my temptation, for more fabric stash, at home and only buy the threads I need. Right. Like that's going to happen

Have a good day and please play safe :)

But what if you haven't got a landline @shiney.....have you no family to worry about!!!:doh:

As I've said none of our son's have landlines but they also keep theirs on ( and no we didn't ask them to, they are just using their sensible heads) .....just in case they are needed by their ageing parents!!

And in this 24/7 world that we are now in, where would you draw the line.....even over here in the UK there are thousands sleeping during the day!:snooze:

Switch your phone off?.....yep good news could be waiting for you, but so could avoidable bad news too.

Upsydaisy that’s exactly why I do leave mine on, one because I use it as my alarm, two in case my parents need help, three I remember a few years ago my brother got sent to hospital in the night after being beaten up walking home off two men he had never met, so you never know when they will need you, it’s not a nice world out there any more

Glad you're enjoying your book Lori, I get totally absorb in my reading tool

Normally, as already mentioned, I read ebooks and in fact have one on the go at the moment. However this week to occupy my evenings I started on another knitting project and :ideaIPB: decided to download an audio book from my Library to help make my time even more enjoyable.......don't know why I didn't think of doing this before, it's brilliant!!! Almost finished the book!!:awesome:

Totally understandable @Flumpy , I would hate to feel disconnected from my family.

Much better to be safe than living with being sorry.:bigthumb:

You're very fortunate not to have been disturbed at night @shiney . Like @Flumpy we had a son and his friend needing picking up from A&E at 2am. And had to contact family members, some via mobile at 1am so as to share last words with my Mum.

Like you when I was holiday I would never consider telling my staff where or how to contact me as the said people were hired because they were competent to use their initiative.:blue thumb:

We have two landlines and all our friends and family still have a landline (except for one) and in three quarters of a century I've only had one call in the night (from a drunk friend :rolleyespink:). So we are always contactable at night but fortunately haven't needed it. The one that doesn't have a landline (a close nephew) wouldn't have any problem phoning us or us phoning him. :noidea:

At least with a landline we wouldn't be disturbed by receiving texts :heehee:

The cost for the internet (unlimited) and a landline with unlimited calls is £18.50 per month. Between us we make about 200 calls a month so it's good value for money. Our alarm system is also connected through that line.

Good evening I have a landline but as it is downstairs my mobile is on of a night by the bedside as when you have 3 sons and a daughter who use only mobiles (and Grandchildren,),I know that I can be contacted if the need arises which is imperative to me:smile:

I agree @shiney that a lot of us oldies do still have landlines, I'm just pointing out that times are changing, even my nieces who are married and have children haven't got one.

We have the unlimited deals too and likewise our alarm system is via the line, and personally I wouldn't give it up.

It was just your comment of 'why don't you switch your phone off at night ?:doh:. Not everybody can, that's all.:):dbgrtmb:

                              Aloha everyone,

I hope you are all feeling well today.

I think that I may have overdone the pressure washing yesterday by doing thre and a half hours of it - but the patio is starting to look good. I'll give it a break for a day or two.

Not quite sure that I can do this!

It will be just some pottering around in the garden for me today.

A Thai restaurant has just opened in the village so we may give it a go today. :blue thumb:

                              Have a great day

                              Aloha!
