....2nd...3rd...:yikes:. must have some somewhere tucked away.

No sorry, that would be my worse nightmare. :yikes:A big gathering of rarely seen 'family' making small talk, as we have nothing in common except bloodline ties really......then you always get the ones who are set to outdo everyone by boasting about their lifestyles and achievements .....knowing full well that nobody can prove them otherwise.

Now a gathering of friends is a different kettle of fish !!!:partytime:

That sounds like a totally strange setup to us. We are a family that keeps in touch all the time and help each other as and when necessary. Up until Covid a dozen or more of us saw each other, as a group, at least once a month and a smaller number more frequently. We kept/keep in touch all the time and even support any events we run. A lot of them always turn up for our open garden (20-30) and some even enter a team in a charity quiz I run each year despite driving 90 minutes each way.

Families that don't see or hear much of each other seem strange to us. :noidea:

We still have our large circle of friends as well.

Even people from other countries that we meet on holiday are kept in touch with and we meet each other if we go to their countries and sometimes stay with them. They stay with us if they come over here.

Not really strange....it's modern family life . All our family are dispersed around the country. Busy, busy lives and most are still working. Sad but true . Our parents moved away from their birthplace, but a lot of their family stayed put. My sister's children haven't ventured far ,still only a mile or two away.
I think the ones that go to Uni get a taste for new fields . My younger sister was the only one out of us 4 who decided on Uni and she is the only one that didn't return home and lives away from us down here..and that was years ago as she is almost 60.
Our boys went to Uni, sought a different life in London , one has plans for Canada.
My sister and brother are the only family here, and we still see each other......so nothing strange.

Apart from my siblings and sons....we only have 13 other family members ...12 on my Dad's side and 1 on Mums....one of which is in Canada.

Who knows when everyone has retired, things might change.:dunno:
But I still prefer friends over extended family.:dbgrtmb:

That doesn't mean that we don't keep in touch....we do , we just don't have the chance to meet up , thankfully:heehee:

It also shouldn't be assumed that we as a family aren't there for each other if anyone needs help...we are .

Seems strange that families, don't see or hear from each other...some families would long to be in your position but unfortunately circumstances aren't on their side.

We are the lucky ones that have what we wish ,you have your family ..great, I have a much scaled down family......great. We're both happy:dbgrtmb:

            I agree :blue thumb:

All through our lives, from very young, our family and extended family have kept in touch and visited no matter how far away. It's just the family tradition that has gone on for generations. When I was young we regularly had a few dozen family visiting regularly and we have kept it up. So we are not only family but friends as well. :)

As my mother had 4 sisters and 4 brothers and my father had one brother and three sisters I must have 20+ cousins. I am in touch with one of them and her daughter.
When I was growing up we all lived in different villages and towns and generally, especially my mothers side there was some form of row going on; so family get togethers were more like negotiating a peace treaty with statements like I'm not coming if XYZ are going to be there or well I'm not sitting next to ......

                Good day,
It's interesting to hear about family dynamics. I keep in touch with my cousins. All except one. The braggart with a big B. I used to put up with her because her Mother was still around and I didn't want to hurt the old dearie but now there is nothing to impel me to keep in touch. She would make a point of asking embarassing questions. Like are you still in an apartment? Really? You must be wasting your money! Etc etc. She did it to my poor sister and many other relatives.

I've had a busy day so far. Lots of laundry got done in between baking and watching my beloved Corrie. Looks like it won't be long now until Ray gets his :)

Sam is still going the right direction. I've got her on a schedule to pace up and down the hall outside her bedroom. And not for long but regularly. Can't have her seizing up!

Got a giant crock of chile con carne on the go and later it will be coney fries for all :)

And I'm going to sit with my fit up and sort my seats into chronological order for sowing :)

                Cheers all :coffee:

Morning!, especially for all of you lucky ones that have snow....all of ours mysteriously vanished before it arrived.

I have a few too many of such relatives Lori!

So please to hear of Sam's continuing progress/ recovery, please pass on our love and good wishes.

I want to attempt walking to the post box ( with hubs to lean on :blue thumb:) but he is adamant that I shouldn't try.....it probably would just aggravate it more. But as I can't even contemplate joining him on the longer afternoon walks I thought a shorter one would serve as a tester.:dunno:

                  We'll see.

Enjoy your day and play fairly if you're planning a snowball fight!"snow dig"

                    Aloha everyone,

We only had about an inch of snow yesterday but it has started again - lightly. A cousin (cousins again :heehee:) in Kent had 6" yesterday. :rolleyespink:

@CanadianLori do you cook your chilli sauce with mince, like we do over here, or with small chunks of beef like they do in the southern states of the U.S.? What sausage do you use for your coney fries?

You would confuse people over here with saying coney fries as it's not know here. We have a fish called coley - a type of cod - which is popular cooked as fried fish and chips and there's even a fish called coney which is part of the turbot family.

I cooked some salt beef yesterday (brined and spiced it myself :blue thumb:) and had it with jacket potato and peas - and, of course, home made mustard. I'll have a nice salt beef sandwich for lunch but haven't decide what to have tonight. I may do roast chicken wings (garlic, herbs and chilli) with home made falafel and a cabbage stir fry.

                    Keep well

                    Aloha!

                        Good day
It is up to 5f and we're being told that the sun will shine later but it will also get colder. And two more weeks of cold before we're going to warm up to around freezing. Typical winter.

@shiney I use ground beef which is what I believe you call mince. To anyone who doesn't know, chile con carne on top of french fries = coney fries. My Mum used to make mashed potatoes and top them with chile. Yum.

Whilst Sam is resting I will be going out to pick up supplies for my little business and grab a couple of grocery items I had forgotten the other day.

Have a lovely day all :coffee:

No real plans as such for today, apart from a video call with my sister.

A light covering of snow last night with more to come later today. Nothing is melting as temps are still in the -'s.

Homemade soup day I think....a huge bowl too

                              Good day,
It is only partially cloudy today and we are already up to 11f. Not expeƧted to bet any warmer though.:blue thumb:

Everyone is in good shape here. :fingers crossed:

I've got a busy day ahead of me. I've started soaking some sweet peas, going to make soil blocks for those and the Yellow Datura seeds. And I need to make several yards of upholstery cording for an upcoming slipcover job. All good fun ;)

Cheers all and stay safe :coffee:

                                Aloha everyone,

I made a lovely veggie soup yesterday. Mrs Shiney had two bowls :)

A lovely sunny morning today.

Couldn't get on here much yesterday as I had a visual migraine and needed to limit screen time to use for bridge. I don't get any pain from it but it messes up my vision. It is expanding zigzig bright lights.

                                Keep well

                                Aloha!
