    Good day
It is 3f -16c and since there is still lots of snow on the ground, I won't need to do any mowing :heehee:

Today is vacuum, laundry and dusting day. And then I am going to make @Michael Hewett 's boiled cake recipe. I've been looking forward to that but had to wait until I had backed off the feed bag for a little while.

It is brilliantly sunny which makes it quite uplifting. I'll put my wintergear on and go out for a bimble this afternoon to catch some free D's on my face.

    Cheers :coffee:

Hi all, glad your all well :spinning:
      Is it someone’s birthday today??
Upsydaisy not long now, at least you will be able to rest your knee in the garden in spring
Lori I too am doing the house chores whilst hubby is collecting the grocery, looking forward to your cake yummy!.

Does anyone know where my mum can get her state pension checked, it turns out she’s only gets half of what my dad gets

        Good afternoon all.

We need pics of the cake please Lori so that we can salivate over it!!

Whose birthday Flumpy, have we missed something??

Citizens Advice might be useful initially for your Mum .

House chores here too....well to be honest more like Spring cleaning ...so hubs tells me.
Still not only will it be clean and tidy for my recuperation...it will be less to do in Spring and more time for gardening!!! So it's a win win situation!!

That would depend on how many years she actually paid pension contributions and whether she had opted for the basic reduced rate of National Insurance contributions.

If she didn't pay sufficient years she would end up with a lower rate. Those amount of years has changed but used to be 44 (in my day) but I think it may be down to around 30 now.

In her day (or maybe a bit earlier) it was possible for a married woman to opt to only pay 2% NI instead of the going rate which would have probably been between 8%-11%. At the time they stopped that in 1977 it was 5.85% instead of 12%.

Although they stopped it, anyone on the lower rate could continue to pay it.

          This may help:-

Reduced rate National Insurance for married women

And also your hot chocolate reminded me that yesterday I made pink chocolate ice cream. I used pink hot chocolate mix to flavour the ice cream base :)

I well remember my mother being adamant about not paying the reduced rate of NI despite my father saying she didn't need to. Divorce sorted that arguement.

I don't know anything about iPads as I much prefer a desktop. :noidea: Much better/bigger screen, proper keyboard (important as you get older and have less nimble fingers) and I can sit much more comfortably without getting back or neck problems. :)
