Thanks @Flumpy , he's just phoned me and he's gutted.
His shopping was and can still be done online but he did like popping out to get smaller items during the week but more important is that he has to attend the Drs regularly and the hospital ( and he's not good with hospital transport) . Due to his disabilities he can't get into an ordinary car so we will have to search out a taxi firm who can provide a service for the disabled and has the appropriate vehicles.
        So sad.

Oh no. That is horribly sad! I know if my licence got pulled, I'd feel like my legs had been cut off.

I used the services of a patient care service for my friend some years ago and though it isn't cheap, they were excellent, gentle and taking extra care to make sure he suffered no discomfort.

Our bus services have a special bus to address mobility issues. Maybe your local bus company does too?

Again. That is so sad..

Aawe that’s sad Upsydaisy, my friend who had disabilities used to have appointments at the hospital and she use to be able to ring the hospital and they use to collect people who couldn’t drive, not sure if your brothers hospital does this :grphg:

Sadly no , my brother wouldn't manage most other vehicles due to his disabilities. His car was adapted to meet his needs and in fact his new one was to be collected at the end of this month.

The only hospital transport that he has used ( at a push) was their patient transport adapted bus like ambulance one. That can mean you're on it for a long time as they go round picking lots of other patients up as well and it also means that he has to use his wheelchair as he can't sit in the seats. He has also had to wait for up to 3 hours after appointments to be collected and taken home again, often another long journey, and it ends up messing up his medication and meals ( which are both linked to each other.) Plus not going into details...his toilet is a specially adapted one as well ,so long hospital appointments are not good in more ways than one.

My old neighbour use to be a volunteer driver for a local hospital and he used his own car, this type of service wouldn't be suitable either.
My sister tried to get her car adapted but it couldn't be done on her model so she bought a new one and has had the adaptations fitted ,on the thinking that when she comes down they can go out somewhere and maybe she could take him back to hers ( London ) for a day out too.
She works and is hopefully going to come down once a fortnight, at the moment she has been coming down a couple of times a week ,but it's too much as her health is far from good.

Yes Lori our bus service runs a Dial and Ride service but this is often geared to elderly people who can't make it to a bus stop or perhaps can't carry their grocery shop home. It takes people to town or to the larger supermarkets but not for medical appointments.

No our best bet is to try and find a reliable taxi service whose aim is to meet the needs of the physically and mentally disabled in a sensitive and caring manner. Once my brother gets to know the drivers I'm sure he will feel at ease and safe with them......that's my hope and I hope it proves possible.:fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

                Good morning all.:)

Ok yes I exaggerate....it's not quite as cold as this!!;), but definitely nippy out there this morning.

Not sure what's on our agenda today as it could be a wet afternoon I will probably have a walk this morning.

Keep safe and have a good day.:spinning:

                  Good day,
Well, the wind did not push out the clouds and it is still chilly. 20f -6c and they are saying it will drop some more during the day. Typical Canuck stuff.

I've got some errands to run today and grocery shopping to do. I've got 5 of my girlfriends coming by on Monday for a desserts only pot luck lunch. And we'll try to do some planning for outings this year. I'm hoping during my amble up and down the aisles, I'll come up with some inspiration for a great dessert to make. And I'll pick up some non alcoholic wine. I'll have a white and a red on hand and then a white and red regular wines on hand. People can have either, or pour themselves a mixture. Sometimes half and half is great. A very low alcohol sip but still lots of good flavour.

Well, I'd better get on with my day. I also have the ever so exciting job of cleaning the kitchen floor grout to finish too

                  Cheers
                  Lori

I'm sorry to hear of your brother's predicament @Upsydaisy, I hope you can find a suitable taxi service.
I should think he is feeling rather upset and it is quite understandable having lost his 'freedom' so to speak, but I hope he and you will be able to find ways of coping.

There's nothing like looking ahead @CanadianLori, it raises the spirits when one has something to look forward to

                      Good morning !!

We've been promised rain and sleet today but so far it's looking fine out there, so we'll wait and see.
No plans made yet until we get a better idea of how our weather will be.

I have lots to do indoors if need be to keep me out of mischief.

                        Good day
Here I am sat, with my rollered up hair a la Hilda Ogden. It is sunny but when I put the recycle out to the kerb this morning, I discovered that it is nostril gluing cold. You know, you breath in and they stick to your septum!

I've had to cancel my Monday gals get together because the virus is multiplying. Reminds me of that episode in star trek with the Trifids. We'll wait until it finishes peaking and then back to having a life again.

@Michael Hewett my grout looks a lot brighter and lighter however I am still not completely happy with it. As you say, something else to look forward to. Later I shall be playing with bleach...

Have a good day everyone. Spring will be here before we know it!
