    Good day
The wind is blasting through too and now the guessers are telling us we will be getting blizzards within the hour. From what I can tell, there is about 10 inches of snow out there so far.

But I am inside with my cuppa for now and just watching the trees sway and the white stuff fly.

They are closing down schools. What a pain for parents. The schools were just reopening today and lots Moms and Dads will be scrambling for day care again.

I was thinking about going out and shoveling but realize that the wind is too strong and the stuff would just blow back so I'll wait until things settle down.

Have a lovely day all :coffee:

I hope you're all right @CanadianLori, I read on the news that a winter storm is coming to eastern USA and Canada. Batton down the hatches ! and keep safe and warm
      "snow dig"

Here's what I baked ... it's a boiled cake. It's easy and I already had the ingredients in the house.
I think I put it too high up in the oven because the top seems a little bit burnt, but it tastes all right.

      Ingredients ready ...

      All done ...

      DSCF6739.JPG

      Nice and moist inside ...

Would anyone care to join me ? ...

Sorry the china doesn't match, but there's a warm welcome in the hillsides :heehee:
and it's the taste that counts anyway :dbgrtmb:

Yum @Michael Hewett ! I'm in! I love raisins and currants or whatever those are in the cake. That is probably why I love Christmas cake. raisins, currants and candied fruit, oh my!

Just came in from the first set of shoveling before the wind comes back. The snow is now about 18 inches and drifting to over a meter in some places. A good workout. It has tapered off quite a bit so I'll do another couple of gigs out there and it will all be fairly clean until I pull the vehicles out. The road plow won't be around until probably the middle of the night so I'm snowed in today. I'm just dreading the snow plow stacking a giant heap at the end of the driveway.

Take care shovelling that snow @CanadianLori it can be a backbreaking job. I hope the snow ploughs clear the roads enough for people to get around.

Yes there are currants sultanas and cherries in the cake as well as chopped nuts and spices. The kitchen smells nice

It stopped about 4ish. No biggie. The wind came along and blew the snow from around the greenhouses down to only two feet high. :)

                      Good day
@Upsydaisy I hope your family all start getting better quickly. Both son and hubby, that is a lot of stress and worry!

@Flumpy I got lucky last night. No, not that! But the snow plow came around the road three times last night and most of the snow did not end up at the end of my driveway for a change. Only about another half hour of snow shoveling to get rid. The snow gods are being merciful. Next door's driveway is socked in. It must be 3 feet high x 4 feet deep and the full width of the driveway. There are renovations going on there so getting their work vehicles in :dunno:

I've got the recipe for the custard slices printed out and propped up at the back of the kitchen counter. Just waiting for some ambition to try making them. @Michael Hewett is the recipe for your cake a family secret or are you allowed to share? Pretty please?

                      Have a lovely day all.

                      Cheers :coffee:

What a worry for you @Upsydaisy try to stay positive and I hope husband will have a good result and son will be better soon xxx

It isn't a secret @CanadianLori I have a few recipes for boiled cake that various people wrote out for my mother and I found them in an old tin when we sorted out the house after my parents died.
                          Here's the one I made ...

                          6 oz currants
                          6 oz sultanas
                          2 oz cherries
                          2 oz chopped nuts
6 oz margarine (I use Stork)
                          6 oz sugar
                          10 oz S R Flour
                          1 teaspoon mixed spice
I put nutmeg as well because I love it :)
                          3 beaten eggs

Boil the currants and sultanas for 15 mins
(make sure it doesn't boil dry)
                          Strain
Add marg and sugar while still warm
Mix WELL until the marg has all melted
Add other ingredients and mix WELL until there are no pockets of flour in the mixture

Bake in middle of oven for 1 hr 30 min at 180 C
                          It makes one loaf ...

Please @Michael Hewett , what is mixed spice? I'm sat converting the recipe to my measuring system and I'm stumped about the spice.
                                Thank you
