    Morning all.

Same as yesterday ...a beautiful sunny morning albeit fresh at 8c, but we will go up to the mid/high teens.

Just a quiet Christmas Eve for us. J's family being of German Catholic background Christmas was celebrated today with Mass and then the opening of presents. We don't go to Mass nor exchange presents but we do have a light evening meal of cheeses and cold meats etc.

Have a peaceful one whatever you are up to.

Good morning everyone......only one more sleep!
      :santastuck:
Enjoy your day Vicky,, we're currently being serenaded by Christmas carols while having breakfast!
Although obviously he wasn't brought up to celebrate our festive season, hubs will put up with all the mayhem. :heehee: As a family we never went overboard anyway..well when the brood were small we did as they were great believers of Santa. Since then it's more focused on trying to gather our family together to enjoy each others company...not necessarily on the 25th but any time 'around ' it.

Fairly quite day yesterday, hubs and I went out for the morning just 'exploring 'the local area. Son was busy preparing ingredients for a huge pot of homemade soup and was happy for us to amuse ourselves for a few hours.

We didn't actually get back until almost 2pm by which time we were greeted by the yummy aroma of garlicky vegetable soup gently keeping warm in the slow cooker.

Grocery shop was delivered late afternoon, so at least that's all taken care of.

Once again so set plans....later in the day we'll need to prep the veggies for tomorrow dinner.! Hubs hasn't been feeling 100% lately so we are avoiding going into the city centre....and to be honest that suits me as it's just nice to keep to the local area and spend precious time with our eldest as his girlfriend has now gone up north to spent Christmas with her parents.

Loving our weather at the moment , so mild!! This time last year we had just come through a prolonged spell of -7C temps......so our current weather is a heatwave !

Morning to you all on this yet another wet windy day!

Hope your all ready for Xmas day, my hubby is doing a mad dash out for a Xmas cake if there is any left, it was the last thing on my mind, I’ve got to do check list with dad today as he’s in panic mode and keeps thinking it’s Xmas day today….I’m getting a little worried as I’ve told him three times in the last few days……. I will be decorating the trifle later ready for our family tomorrow which we have to be careful not to drop it in the car on our journey to my parents house.

Upsydaisy sounds like your son is having a good time :dbgrtmb:

Victoria hope you, hubby & fluffy’s are doing ok ?

Hi to Redstar & Lori :grphg:

          Good day
It is a very mild day at 38f 3c the guessers say the sun will not show it's face until tomorrow and during another mild day. No white Christmas for us!

I'm glad to hear everyone is getting ready for a relaxed day tomorrow. @Flumpy for some reason, this year and this week, I'm having to remind myself that is it not a day later than how it feels. Just a little foible when the weather or something else does not match the season. Perhaps you father is subconsciously wanting Christmas to be done with for a different reason. Perhaps he misses your Mum?

I've got one 7.5 kilo turkey ready to stuff and roast today. The bread is all spiced with rosemary, thyme, parsley and sage and I tore it to bits yesterday in preparation for today so it's just a matter of putting in the onions and wet ingredients and shoving it up his cavity :heehee: This one is for everyone's leftovers. Since we will be 9 number of adults, plus kids at table tomorrow, the second turkey is a bit larger. I'll also bake several dozen buns tomorrow morning so as to have fresh ones for people to take home to make their leftover turkey sandwiches.

Later this morning we're off to a friend's for a champagne and orange juice brunch. I think Emily will be in awe of these people's property and their mansion out in the country.

          Cheers all :coffee:

            Morning all. Merry Christmas Eve.
Canceled late lunch reservations, will make something, who knows. Have scallops, oysters, Elk sausages, veggies, and other things. Also will stay home tomorrow, again who knows. In the past I have made homemade crapes with mozz and ricotta stuffed, baked with a tomato sauce. See how I feel. Later to go to a candle light service at one of the local churches. This area, for a small as this town is, has lots of churches, will try a very old one today, just to see the inside.
A light rain last night, 40 degrees here, almost 10AM.
BTW, all the gifts to neighbors have been delivered, and received. I open them up tomorrow.
Blessing to all of you, and a Merry Christmas.

Definitely is missing my mum, we all are, I broke down yesterday & at work, but I’m going to try and do her proud in the kitchen, I’ve just made the trifle just how mum made it :imphrt:, I’m more worried that something isn’t right with his memory, but it could just be all the Xmas pressure and grief.

OK, got my two meals sorted for Christmas Eve early dinner, and for tomorrow Christmas dinner.
Today is scallops in cream sauce, little shallots and peas tossed in over pasta. Easy.
Tomorrow doing a stuffed pork roll, stuffing it with saute spinach, garlic, pistachios, little egg soaked breading with herbs, side will be scallop potatoes. We have plenty of baked goods about for dessert. And that is it. Just the two of us.

Aww yes it's a very emotional time indeed @Flumpy

We very much miss going to my parents on Christmas Day. Missing them both so much still and ...strange as this may sound but the old family home too , Mum always created such jolly festive atmosphere in it ,using decorations that were from our childhood and also some we all made as very young children. !!
We rarely drive past the house now as all of us still get upset.

I expect it's a mix of missing your Mum and the upheaval of Christmas making him a tad confused.
Like Lori said we too have got a bit muddled over the days this week, I expect due to the focus centred mainly on Christmas Day itself...we suddenly have to stop and say ' what day is it,?'.
Your Dad certainly isn't doing bad for his age if he's only now showing signs of a little confusion.

As I mentioned recently I've had concerns over my hubs memory for some time now and our son has also noticed it . I think he's more shocked as he only sees him every couple of months , and any changes become more noticeable then.
Today for instance hubs started to tell him about something he saw recently on our visit to a museum ..... we only went on Friday...and son was with us!! :yikes: Son and I both exchanged a concerned look . Again perhaps the run up to Christmas and being away from home has just placed additional pressure on his already slightly muddle brain .....:noidea: we'll all keep an eye on him that's for sure.

All of you need to just keep an eye on your Dad to monitor him.... :grphg:

Thank you Flumpy....enjoy your Christmas by cherishing the memories of past ones that you shared with your Mum, but equally important are to make new ones with your Dad...that is what your Mum would've wanted.

Don't forget ( something I have told myself many times ,especially now I don't have any parent still with me) ..it's not wrong to laugh and be happy ,our parents are locked safely away in our hearts and would be extremely happy to know we are still enjoying the life they gave us .
