J likes the Salmon but I don't. The Cod is Salt Cod, yuk!
Yes, The Tuna Salad is great but HUGE. MMMM, Pineapple Cup.
12,30. It has come over overcast and is very breezy so a light jacket will be in order.

 

Oh!!! Salted Cod, I didn't realise that .I've never had it but it doesn't sound very appealing, so I'll skip that.

I can cope with a huge salad ( without potato salad), so it's between the Salmon ( as long as it's not a raw menu) or the Tuna.

You forget Vicky ,I am currently coming from the land of winds.....at this very moment in time we have wind speeds of 50mph......will I really need a light jacket!!

It is 54f!!! That is 10c The guessers say that we will be going up to the high 70's F 25c+ and that will happen tomorrow and Friday as well before dipping back down to "seasonal" highs of around 50f and nightly lows near freezing.

Your lunch sounds lovely @Victoria and @Upsydaisy it will be interesting hearing about the maintenance work you are undertaking. @redstar I sometimes make rhubarb jelly but mostly use it for traditional baked items like squares and pies.

I'm still working on shifting lots of soil. I haven't showered yet this morning because I'm going to start some bread doughs and while they are on their first rise, I'll be back at shoveling. It is darned hard because the trees in nearby lots have sent roots into the garden and I'm having to stop and chop and yank every few minutes. After the first rise, I'll get myself cleaned up and things ready to entertain.

I had a big bonus that there was a sale on grass seed at one supplier and since the sale ends today, I ordered it online for pick up so that I could get it at half price. I did that because I can't make it there today as I have company coming for lunch.

Maintenance work!! No, no ,no that's way too drastic for me..even hubs ( who carried out most of the building work/ renovations) isn't that keen on doing much these days.

I'm just attempting a good and ( fairly ) thorough general clean.

I'm a bad weather cleaner...as soon as the weather improves and these bloomin winds move on to pastures new I'll be back outside....guaranteed.

@Upsydaisy , 10 glass doors to clean, that is a lot of doors, wow. The "garden" room has the most windows those are done in August, along with the ceiling fan and the triangle high window nooks (need a ladder), once a year that is it. And french doors. The rest of the house is hit or miss, no ladder needed. I think given I was working full time outside the home for 40 years I just keep with my old routine, whatever that means. Yes, outside is more enjoyable, especially now.
Cleaning is so boring. But my goal is to clean out and toss, still working on that. Lots we do not need anymore.
@CanadianLori you certainly are an energetic soul, just tired reading what your doing. Have a good lunch gathering.
Chess club went well, won two games, I check mated the first guy in 4 moves. Maybe I am getting my grove back, used to play a lot.
Going to be a warm one today, almost 80, don't like it that warm. Shorts are on and a cotton T-shirt, and sandals. Have a good day all.

Well done on your Chess playing, I can play but tend to always end up playing with people well above my low grade levels...thats what I tell myself.
Hubs prefers Backgammon...I'm even worse at that!!!

Yes 10 glass doors !! I still blame hubs as he designed and drew up the plans for the 2nd stage renovations on our house. I was busy with our 3 ( then very young, only 4 years between them) sons. I was more concerned about making sure they didn't think that the scaffolding was a giant kids climbing frame and that the cement mixer wasn't a playground spinner!!
I never considered the cleaning aspect of anything much in those mad days.

Cleaning aspect is usually top of my thinking when we renovated, however, it can also be a signal of unseen issues, example, in our kitchen we put in 3 of the cupboards with glass fronts, when the glass looks like it needs a good cleaning then I know the wooden cupboards to also. amazing what air carries up to settle on that, and I do not deep fry either.

We redid one of our bathrooms couple years back. Got black marble for the floor and used black grout, only can see dust and baby powder, awesome. Any of those dimpled back splashes in kitchens I avoid, dirt settles in that stuff.
I am thankful that our house sets far enough back and away, so huge privacy curtains are not necessary, just a little top decorative ones, so easy to pop off and launder.

Oh I agree @redstar ....If I knew then what I know now,41 years later!!!

I layer newspaper on top of all my kitchen wall units....now I would have then up to the ceiling, and as you say its amazing what the air in a kitchen carries and we don't fry anything either.

We love Backgammon. We play cards five times a week. Backgammon in the Summer as we play cards five times a week ... Cards are not so good outside in the breeze ...

In our main bathroom we have light salmon coloured grout which is currently disgusting as J only slops the mop around and the window goes onto a dirt lane!

@Upsydaisy , I did that also, the newspapers on the top of the cupboards for that open space. But when we renovated the kitchen, about 10 years ago now, it was to the ceiling the new cupboards went. Husband used the old cupboards in the garage, now filled with tools etc.
We ripped down the soffit that was in one area, and found that the builder did not match ceiling boards to transition smoothly to the dinning room, as we were going to not put long cupboards in that area, keeping it more open. That was fun, transitioning that seamlessly.
So funny part----(we have an alarm system tied into local fire station) Husband is sanding and sanding, even with hanging sheets to keep the dust organized, it still caused the hallway smoke detector to go off,-----But the sanding machine was so loud , and both of us wearing ear protections we did not hear it. I happened to look out the front door----up on my driveway the huge fire truck and guys running out. We know now to cover the thing if we ever do any kind of sanding renovation things again.

Just made tuna salad for husband, but he's napping, he did some yard stuff, now my turn to go spray certain areas to kill that weed. Fun. Later.

Well the winds have passed, Tulips are slightly bent, some more Wallflowers have collapsed...what is it with my Wallflowers they seem such delicate specimens this year!! The potted Olive Tree was knocked over and rolling around too...but that was all. Considering they had wind speeds of 96 mph across the Solent at the Needles ( IOW) we were very lucky indeed.

Weather wise we are forecast to have a bit of everything today, ( minus the wind) hopefully in a dry spell I'll get to move a plant that is poorly and Woo has suggested is in the wrong place.

We'll also go into town at some point too.

I want to round off my cleaning spree by polishing up 3 wall mirrors, one of which is fairly huge and in our hallway. Then that will do. Curtains will get washed in the summer.

I totally agree, after working full-time for almost 50 years , only taking 4 years off to have 3 babies, now retired I too believe that life should be lived at an easier pace . I clean far less now than I use to have to when all the children were at home. Hubs and I are genuinely tidy and well organised and clean up as we go, when the boys first moved out I couldn't believe how easy it was to keep house for just the two of us.....it seemed a doddle!! I intend to keep it that way too

Morning all. Sunny and breezy.

Had a great time at lunch and didn't need cardi. I had chicken breast skewers with satay sauce and salad. Sat out after we got home so lots of fresh air.

Had internet problems all day yesterday ... I think issue our end with router or something.

J has a lot on today. Selling a banjo in Lagoa then on to Silves to get a phone card then home briefly via the Post Office in Algoz before Dentist which was moved from tomorrow. I hope some plants I ordered from Malta will arrive.

Good morning everyone, nicer day here today, bright sunshine but I have to go to the dentist. I don't mind that but since this is the best weather day this week it seems rather a waste.
Mind you I wouldn't have wanted to go yesterday, the weather was horrendous.

Dentist is in a small town 8 miles away and it's a pleasant drive through the countryside, so shouldn't be too bad. I may take a few pics.
(I'd have preferred being in the garden though)
