Well, the day started beautifully, lots of sunshine. It had clouded over by midday, but we got out in the garden for a while. I collected up all the stuff I had chopped down over the last few days, and OH very kindly shredded everything for me. One green bin filled, hooray! We had decided that given the diabolical weather we’ve had, we’d settle for one bin filled, still a day to go, so if we get any more green waste collected, that’ll be a bonus.
It’s been tipping down all afternoon and the patio is flooded again. Will it ever stop?

I collected my car, an expensive service as the accessory belt needed replacing.

I've been to the lovely plant nursery and bought a selection of 13 perennials in blue, pink or white in big pots for 4€50 each and a big pot with a well grown Delta Sarah fuchsia for 10€. Most for my new bed which isn't yet ready for planting and a few for the orchard fence bed which has mostly yellow roses and blue flowers in it. Plants such as oriental poppy, cornflower, delphiniums, gaura, geranium, nepeta, liatris.

@pattie, I’ve checked my water bill file. I kept the first few bills from when we moved here in 2004, as a reminder. Based on our rateable value, we were paying about £1000 a year, which had risen to over £1300 before we got the water meter fitted.
Our last three years bills have all been under £350 a year! Two of us at home, retired, showers not baths, washing machine and dishwasher in almost daily use, plus car cleaning when I get round to it, every other month maybe. Hope that helps?

              Sounds lovely, @Busy-Lizzie.
OH has now told me there is a water meter in one of our offices that was put there before our time and the bills are higher than ours at home! He won't entertain the idea of us having one at home. So that's that then. Ah well.

              Thanks, @Ergates.

Well done on your tidying up job done @Ergates. Sorry about your flooded patio though.
@Busy-Lizzie I'm off to my favourite nursery tomorrow. Who knows what I will be tempted by though looking at any clemmies they have on offer is a cert.! I remember having a Delta Sarah fuchsia several years ago.

Yes, @Ergates but even though he's queried the high rate for over eight years (kettle filling and the loo are all that uses water in the office ) the water company won't budge. He still says no for here and I respect his decision.

I did a similar calculation @Ergates. All those years ago - and it will have been in the early 1990s I was paying £576 p.a. and now I pay £264 p.a.
