Morning all (just about). It's alternating sun and clouds here, and very windy. The washing is out on the line with extra pegs, and I've been getting on with indoor stuff while keeping half an eye on it. Some of the forecasts say rain this afternoon and some say not until evening, we'll see.

      Good afternoon all,

Sorry to read of your loss @steephill. Condolences to you all.

It’s another blustery day, with sunshine and showers, but mostly sunshine. The breeze makes it feel chilly though, even though it’s about 15 degrees C.

Went to the GC for a bite of lunch yesterday and came home with 3 bush tomato plants - I find them easier to deal with than the cordon varieties having limited space. I’ve opted for 3 different kinds, all cherry type and one is a yellow tumbling Tom (can’t remember the other 2 varieties without checking, and they’re on a bedroom windowsill upstairs).

Your dinner tonight sounds delicious @Dovefromabove. I’m going to make us a mushroom risotto as I’ve got a few mushrooms to use up.

You’ll need those extra pegs for your washing @JennyJB but this mostly dry breeze should mean your washing dries well - I got mine nicely dried yesterday. It always smells so much fresher when dried outside for some reason, doesn’t it?

        Good Sunday afternoon everyone!!

First my sincere condolences to you and your wife @steephill on this sudden loss. Quite frightening how quickly things can happen. Sending you both tender thoughts.

@floralies We had coolish weather yesterday too, in fact it was sort of warm with a chilly damp wind. At the moment it is warmer outside than it is inside. Spring!!

The Southern Hemisphere is usually ahead of us up here to change the clocks for daylight saving. We changed last weekend (Easter) which is early.

I wish I could grow wild garlic @Ergates - it's too hot and dry here despite my efforts.

Our Easter Break starts tomorrow @Ante1 France is divided into zones so that the holidays are not taken all at once. (Except in summer) It means a long holiday season in the mountains. (Good for business) I am going to sow some beetroot and carrots tomorrow and maybe try a short row of runner beans. It's a bit early but the weather here is very mild.

May the rest of your Sunday be restful.

It was warm yesterday so managed to get outside in the garden
I inherited MIL's above ground vegetable planter and planted some purple sprouting broccoli, some ordinary carrots, some rainbow carrots and some of those small round carrots for my grandson who loves watching things grow.

The washing dried in about 2 hours @Blue arbour, and yes extra pegs all round. I fetched it in just before the first shower of the afternoon. They've been fairly frequent but very very brief - I think because the clouds are blowing over so quickly. I almost always do get stuff dry or almost-dry outside. I have a washer-dryer but I don't like tumble-drying, particularly when the weather will do it for free.

We went to my son for lunch which we enjoyed. They will be coming to stay with us when we go to OH's cottage in Norfolk in May so we have been planning outings.

I have come across another thread called
Your day (apart from gardening) what took place ? 2024 Feeling a bit confused now.

Signing out for today. It has been another non productive day in the garden here but I live in hope for tomorrow.

I think this thread was originally more for good mornings, and the other for close of play, trips out etc
All became a bit blurred over time so I wouldn't worry about it overly

                    Evening folks.
I was attracted to this thread because it didn’t say ‘apart from gardening’ so I thought it could be general chat with a smattering of any gardening news too.

It’s my usual Sunday evening routine here - dinner, hair wash and general chill before the busy week ahead.

                    Enjoy your evening folks.

Hi everyone. Still cool here and we had more rain yesterday (9.5 mils) but I think it’s finished for a while.

I had a wander around my very neglected veggie garden beds a while ago, and feeling guilty, but I can only do what I’m able at this time. (Old age catching up or the post covid rubbish). We just take each day as it comes.

Good morning all. Very windy weekend here and I was working on Saturday so not much gardening got done. Did pop to local garden centre with my sister and a few bits jumped into my trolley. I was shocked to see how much more expensive basket plants are this year, £3.25 a plant! I have tried ordering from brookside nursery instead as I use a lot and that’s just too rich for my blood.
Raining here again but off to work in a bit so it doesn’t seem so bad as rain on a day off.

Yikes @Debs64, that is a very expensive do. You have heard me talk of the nursery I go to, well their basket plants - in 9cm pots are 0.85p. I remember that you do baskets for other people too so that could be a prohibitive layout. I hope work goes smoothly for you today.

I ventured into the GC when I picked OH up from work yesterday .., just for some compost and runner bean seeds … I got just the one bag of Notcutt’s own peatfree to see what it’s like … it’s always been ok in the past but I didn’t buy any last year …
and I started of two lots of tomato seeds (a beefsteak and Roma) and some courgette and squashes. They’re in the heated propagator on the windowsill. I used the remains of an old bag of compost so :fingers crossed:
