@Punkdoc - great to hear the bookshop is still there in Cartmel - even more reason to visit...

Unfortunately I can't quite read the menu you've posted but I have looked at it online. Am I correct in thinking you get to enjoy all those courses on the tasting menu? Presumably small portions of each one. How long did your meal last?
We did a tasting menu at the 3 Chimneys on Skye years ago and my abiding memory (apart from the food of course) was the very attentive but totally unobtrusive service and the perfect timing of each course. Never felt rushed and it seemed as though just as we were thinking 'Ready for the next course now' it would appear. Took all evening. Happy memories.

LB - I'm really surprised and delighted the bookshop is still there.
Think my last visit was in either 2018 or 2019 and the owner was then reducing opening hours because he said he was doing most business online via Abebooks etc and it was becoming less viable to have a physical bookshop due to reduced footfall etc.
However, he really enjoyed having the shop, meeting customers etc. Maybe the increase in visitors with money in their pockets in recent years (mainly courtesy of Simon Rogan I should think) has allowed him to remain open.
Long may it continue - nothing like a good rummage through old books. Think I bought 5 books last time. What with that and a visit to the farm shop at Shap and the eccentric nursery at Melkinthorpe for pizza and plants on the way home, my purse was empty!

Washed, dressed with a cup of coffee,10.30am and still thick fog. I cannot see the end of the garden.
New sofa under drapes ready for log burner to be sorted
I cannot settle to do anything until the men have been and gone. Then it will be a fortnight wait for them to come back and complete the job.
Dog mooching around looking miserable, he knows something is going on and he hasn't had a walk.

          @Ladybird4, didn't see a large proprietor.
@Topbird, yes you get all the courses, but the first 3 are really just a single bite hors d'oeuvres, and the last 3 are single bite post puddings, so 9 proper courses. We left happily full, but not stuffed. We sat down at 7.30 and left at 11.00, although for the last hour we were the last people there and were just chatting to the staff.

            Morning all,
After all the rain yesterday and last night, today is dry so far, and the forecast high is for a very civilised 15C. If I may take the liberty of paraphrasing @Dovefromabove - there may be sunshine later :)
Very kind of you to post those discount codes @Topbird . Hope your new oil tank comes soon.
Enjoy your newly recovered settee @Goldenlily26 . I'll bet it is beautiful. Hope all goes well with the log burner.
@AuntyRach Tarpaulin & rope - will Madam be disposing of a body today? :)
@lizzie27 very pleased to hear that the bluebird of happiness is once again sitting on your shoulder. Long may it remain there!
Excellent result from Farmer Gracey @Liriodendron
Sorry to hear the storm damaged your plants @Ante1
@Busy-Lizzie chicken & mushroom tarts sound delicious. Hope the gardening Club meeting goes well for all.
@Ergates flowering shrubs are proper gardening too.

Well enough of my silly nonsense for now. Have a wonderful day everyone!

We’ve lit the wood heater for the first time this year. Here comes winter and farewell autumn, even though it’s early.

                Good afternoon everyone!

Lots to read back on so bear with ...

Sunny and a cool breeze blowing but nothing like the strong winds we've had. Warm out of the breeze. Been doing a bit of digging over the vegetable patch - thinking I would do the usual 30 minutes - I didn't put the lumbar belt on and I am paying for that now. R & R this afternoon.

I like winter @PatE I find it easier to get warm in the winter than get cool in the summer and I just love a fire. I think you have a good supply of wood!!

Couldn't read the menu @Punkdoc but I am sure the tasty morsels were worth it. Did they serve a different glass of wine with each course?

You seem to be having some nice weather so today's expression isn't particularly pertinent:

S'il gèle a la Saint Stanislas, on aura deux jours de glace.

May your day be peaceful and bright!

Yes, @Tui34, 9 different wines, but fairly small measures.

Morning all from North Carolina. Cloudy, some drizzle rain. Watching the river from my window now as I type. We are thinking of exploring some local Art Museums, then a lunch somewhere new. My neighbor has me coming over for wine and chat later tonight, girls on the deck situation. Ok. later folks.

That is a very special menu @Punkdoc - sounds absolutely delicious. Had to look up Corra Lin as I'd not heard of it before. In so doing I came across the website for The Cheese Lady in Lanarkshire who is a stockist. That definitely looks like a shop to visit when we're next in that part of the world. Thank you for helping me find it!
Which reminds me - I've had a hankering to buy some more of our local Baron Bigod to eat with celery, grapes and a crusty baguette. I can probably get it from W'rose these days but it's more fun to have a little drive to the farm where they make it and buy from their rather upmarket vending machine! No Twix's in there!

@redstar - enjoy the art galleries if you decide to go and your wine with the girls. That and lunch out sounds like a pretty near perfect day to me.

                              Evening folks.

It’s post-work cuppa time here. I popped into see Dad on way home and his friend was there so I made them a cuppa and left them nattering.

Going to have a catch-up on here now. Have a good evening everyone.

                                Good evening,

It’s been a pleasant day today, warmer and not breezy. I think similar is forecast for tomorrow so I hope to get some more weeding done in the garden.

That’s an interesting menu @Punkdoc. I imagine you felt quite full by the time you’d sampled everything - taster menus are more filling than you might imagine and are quite deceptive, aren’t they?

I hope you had a nice time at the galleries and enjoy your wine with your neighbour tonight @redstar.
