Yet another day with no gardening. The thick mist stayed until mid day, lifted for a hour and then came down again. It has cleared now, too late.
I waited for the men to come and check the log burner. It is too rusted to repair so a new stove is needed. They took out the old one and checked the chimney etc. cleaned out the debris which had collected on the sheet of plasterboard blocking off the cavity of the inglenook. Bad workmanship. They were amazed I had never had a chimney fire. Almost a second mortgage job cost wise. The chimney stack has yet to be checked, another costly job if it needs to be taken down and rebuilt.
The problem with owning an old, very old property.
The men have uncovered a big void behind the inglenook. I did tell them to find something really valuable hidden behind the brickwork but they only came up with potential repair work.
I was hoping for a nice piece of silverware or similar etc. Ha!
I ended up mopping the whole of the downstairs floor after 2 days of men trapesing in and out in wet shoes, sofa delivery yesterday, stove check today.

Evening all. I finally arrived home half an ago. I didn't expect so many people in shops. The best thing today was pond plants delivery. If weather permits I might plant them tomorrow. Now is time for dinner.

I bought Hydrocharis morsus-ranae, Carex Aurea, Iris louisiana Jacaranda lad and Iris pseudacorus Wychwoods multifloral.

Hello everyone. Well I have been hanging around all day waiting for two plant deliveries. The first one - Royal Mail - arrived as expected but the second one has still to arrive. Evri kept me up to date with delivery info right up until 18:36 when they told me that they couldn't deliver to me today but would let me know when they could. That means I could be hanging round tomorrow - deep joy!
@Ante1 I cannot get hold of any Hydrocharis until May so you are very lucky to have some. They are probably still dormant here.

@Goldenlily26, I don't suppose you managed to get your dog out for his walk. He'll be sulking. It is a shame there was no hidden treasure concealed in the fireplace.
          @Punkdoc - a sumptuous menu for sure.
I hope that @Busy-Lizzie and @redstar enjoyed themselves today.
@AuntyRach, thank-you for clearing up the SM conundrum
Whilst I was pootling about waiting for the delivery that never materialised I managed to get several plants into their permanent homes and I pricked out my tomatoes. I am trying a new one this year, an F1 hybrid called Crokini.

Hello folks … we’ve been gadding about today, driving down to the Norfolk/Suffolk border meeting up with Didy for some very good coffee (me) Adnams Ghost Ship (OH) and a pot of Earl Grey (Didy) … you can be sure that the world has been thoroughly put to rights … however we can’t vouch for how long it’ll stay that way … probably not long on recent showings.
Didy asked me to say hello to friends on here … characteristically she’s very busy having meetings and organising events … and meeting friends for coffee ;)

Well totally unexpectedly, and going against all Evri had said in their email, my plants have just been delivered. I am very happy with them. Tomorrow's job!

I had a good time at the Gardeners' Club 20th Anniversary. OH came with me. There was a talk about past events over 20 years with photos on a big screen. I was in some of the photos as I'd opened my old garden with the French equivalent of the NGS and the Club visited, I gave a power point talk to the club some years ago about making an English garden in Dordogne and I judged their flower and vegetable show one year. I moved to this area 3 years ago so now I live near enough to be a member. The B & S lunch was good as always, masses of choice. There were a lot of people there.

This afternoon I made a start on the vegetable garden. The soil was still pretty wet and sticky. I dug in a lot of compost.

Gosh, what a menu @Punkdoc, truly a birthday celebration to remember. I have to admit not being a foodie, I didn't know what half the ingredients were!

Loved seeing the sunshine today - made everything seem so much better. Enjoyed our usual walk this morning and picked up my meds from the pharmacy - all 196 pills!!! Seven packets of those were steroids which I have to reduce by 1 mg per month. They only come in 5mg or 1 mg tablets which are tiny so next week I will have to take 4 1mg pills daily rather than the current 1 5mg one. They taste really horrible as well but needs must I suppose.

Pottered about the garden pre and post lunch, mainly tying in clematis and weeding one of the front garden borders.

I presumed it must have been one of those SM @AuntyRach, we've got a Lidl but not an Aldi
here but I do enjoy a good rummage along those central aisles when I do get the chance to pop in.

Enjoy your wine with the girls @redstar, your holiday home sounds amazing.

Time for sleep I think so goodnight everyone.

                                Morning all.

I ache a bit after the 3 hours spent in the vegetable garden yesterday, but I'm glad the peas and broad beans are planted. I hope nothing ate them in the night.

Today I hope to prepare the bits for the potatoes and the red onions.

We have to go back to the SM this morning as 3 things got left off the list. One was OH's shaving cream. It's market day so we may pop by there too.
