Hi all
Another lovely day, no excuses for getting out there, but rather demoralising to see that the Deer have been in again, 2 Roses have been hard pruned.

 

Good morning all. A dry day here too is promised, it's 10C and washing is out. I'm out for lunch with friends at the golf club but the menu won't be quite as exotic as where Punkdoc dined. @shiney, your menu looks delicious too.

A lovely morning so far.
I am turning my back on housework and gardening and grabbing a beach walk with the dog then shopping.
I feel so guilty when it is fine and I am not gardening (note I do not mention housework) but I haven't worked out how to be in two places at the same time doing different jobs.

 

Oh what a b****r @Punkdoc … but at least you’re feeding wildlife

 

Feeding wildlife can be heart breaking. I speak from experience.

 

We have a problem with deer in the garden. One euonymus in particular is a rather rather ugly lollipop shape because the muntjac creep in and rip off the lower branches. Other euonymus are also ripped into but not quite as badly. It amazes me that some of the smaller roses ever make into flower at all - rosebuds seem to be a particular delicacy for them.
Might have to try laying some carbolic soap nearby...

Shiny - enjoy your lunch - I'll have mackerel followed by spaghetti vongole. As per usual I fancy the starters more than the mains. Nice menu though and a reasonable price for good food and service.

Oops - manners. Good morning everyone. SM and compost turning for me today. That will get me hot and bothered as it's forecast to be 20C+ later today.

 

We had mackerel last night @Topbird … a favourite here too.

 

I knew there was some other reason why I don’t bother growing roses here, apart from the fact that I’ve never really got my head round how and when to prune them. All the plants round here have been tested for deer resistance ( by the deer!) and the ones they do nibble on aren’t anything special. The only real annoyance I’ve had was the time the roe buck cleaned his antlers on the bottlebrush tree ( which did grow back, and has been fine since)
It’s sunny and dry out right now, I’ve finished my breakfast, so it’ll be straight into my gardening togs and outside. I’ve had a reprieve from cutting back some of the shrubs on the slope behind the house, I saw a blackbird collecting a huge beak full of moss and taking it up to the densest part. That’ll have to wait until the autumn then! Plenty more to do though.

Oh yum @shiney, what a super menu - Like @Topbird, I've already made my selection!
This may be an urban myth but I did hear once that if you could get hold of lion poo from a zoo or wildlife park it would deter deer if put in the garden. There was no mention as to if the smell might deter human beings too!
