      Good Morning all.

I must say that my week off is re-charging my batteries. I know I am unusual in not having holidays away, but a staycation is: no packing, no extra costs*, no travelling or traffic queues, guaranteed WiFi, a comfy bed, whatever food you like, and a garden to enjoy.

On my list today is waiting for the council garden bin to be emptied so I can fill it up again!

I hope everyone is doing ok - have a pleasant day.

*I nipped to a GC yesterday and bought a Lupin ‘Masterpiece’ and some Borage. The Lupin (a perennial) will start maroon and develop to purple, with some orange flecks. I would like it for my jewel/bright area but am nervous of slugs, so I might keep it in a pot until it’s a bit larger and the flower spikes are starting to form.

@AuntyRach. I love lupins - especially for the 'talcum powder' scent they fill the air with. I've tried growing them but they get bowed under with those big, fat, grey-green aphids.
Note to self - round up your rellies!

I've seen quite a few of your rellies in my garden @Ladybird, and they're welcome to stay here and keep the aphids under control. They don't seem terribly keen on the big grey lupin aphids though.

@JennyJB, I'll have to have a word to the little feather dusters in the garden. Most of my bird houses have been fully investigated so I'm looking forward to seeing fledglings later.

I thought we’d be stuck at home today waiting for the boiler service, but the nice young man arrived at 8am and was gone by 9am! Out for breakfast and a walk, then home for OH to do some more indoors painting. Feeling very virtuous as the green waste bins are full and ready to go tomorrow. Did that on Sunday thankfully, as yesterdays weather was horrendous, very strong winds, sun one minute then bucketing down the next. I was outside taking the recycling bins down, when a branch fell onto the grass next to me. Luckily it wasn’t any nearer, as the force was enough for the ‘sharp’ end to stick quite a few inches into the ground!
Glad you are enjoying your week off, @AuntyRach, and it’s only Tuesday!

Goodness me @Ergates, you were very lucky the branch missed you as it could have been quite nasty. I saw the TV coverage earlier of a caravan being tipped onto its side by the wind and of some poor people who had their chimney stacks blown down.

Oh btm - still having problems doing quotes and not having my answer appear in the quotes box.

Just wanted to say I agree with Jenny. The soil here was noticeably dry for the top few inches but still quite damp deeper down. Hopefully yesterday's rain will have topped things up. Soil looks nice and black again now:)

Just had a trial run here @Topbird. Basically I highlighted what I wanted to quote, a little box popped up with a +Quote in it. Once I clicked on that the Blue Button with Insert Quotes... in white writing appeared in the bottom left corner and I just clicked on that

@Topbird I just click on Reply and the quote appears … then I type my bit and after that I edit the quote if needed, then I hit Post Reply.

Hello all, we have the same weather as most of you, cold wet and windy. Three days ago the thermometer was high twenties and today it is 10 deg. Everything in the GH is fleeced over and some of the plug plants aren't looking very happy.
I have a cluster of itchy bites on my leg and also on my bum, how on earth do they get there, that's what I want to know!! I'm going to order some Avon stuff and see if that helps!
                              Hope you are all OK.

Not sure where we're off to yet LB. OH has just managed to pick up some flight instructing work at Norwich so we need to get his feet under that particular table before we start gadding off every couple of weeks.
Setting aside a week in mid-May when we might nip over to Germany / NL border area or we might head up to Scotland before the midges arrive. Quite fancy a drive down to Campbeltown and maybe trying to get across to Gigha or Iona.

Then 2 weeks end of June when we might head up to the Baltic coast of Germany with the bikes.

We're driving down to Croatia again at the beginning of Sept, and then in November we're going to Japan for 2 weeks. Making the most of our health in the early days of retirement.

If you're speaking to Hazel (Songbird) please send her my very best wishes. It would be good to see her on here:)
