Evening folks. I’m home from work so just catching up on a day’s worth of chat on here…

A drizzly and grey evening here - boo.

I hope everyone is doing ok.

A dry morning, so I gathered up all the cuttings from yesterday, and brought them down to near the shredder. I also managed to fill a garden bag with ivy and weeds pulled out of the pathway. Then off to accompany OH for his spring Covid booster, just as the rain started. In a fit of energy, I’ve just gone out and cleaned some more windows. I’ve decided there is a major benefit in letting them get dirty enough so I can really see a difference when they are clean!

I've been taking it easy today. Back muscle feels better and sitting room is cleaner.

            Good evening!

The drop in temperature here has provoked much preparation for horticulturists alike. Fires are being lit in the vineyards. Nurseries and gardent centres are covering their produce. Market gardeners are covering their melons. The Cavaliers (Horsemen) are here and they are cold. Frosts are predicted. What a cold spring!!

Evening all. @Tui34 , it's the same situation here with weather. After few hot days, now is cold, with rain and frost in the hills. Unfortunately, all my fruit trees were in flower.
I had rather busy day. After school I went to nearest city in GC and few shops. It was cold and windy whole day. Now I can put my feet up, it's warm inside, I have my tea and pets are all fed and sleeping.

A very good morning everyone. We got absolutely thrashed in the quiz last night and there was thick fog as we went home - I'm so glad I wasn't driving! Looking clear out there today so maybe, just maybe I'll get into the garden.

@Ante1, I really hope that the frost has not done damage to your fruit trees after all your hard work getting them planted. The climate is definitely unsettled worldwide.

Good morning. Got a busy day today, trip to Garden centre with youngest daughter and grandson then going to help her plant roses fetched from her former home. Hope it stays dry.

                            Good morning all :coffee1:
Grey and cool here in Norfolk… but it is dry … ‘they’ suggest that it’s windy … but not so here … not yet at least.
When we drove to Lincs last week we saw that some fields were being ploughed … this is quite unusual nowadays as most farmers follow the ‘minimum tillage’ methods and drill their seed direct into unbroken ground (the farming equivalent of ‘no dig’) and many farmers have got rid of their ploughs.

I said to OH that with the sun and wind we had over the weekend the ploughed ground that had obviously been wet and cold would soon dry out and break down to a fine tilth suitable for seed sowing. Sure enough when we drove home late Sunday afternoon those fields were much lighter in colour as they’d dried out a bit … a going-over with a cultivator or disc roller and that soil will be fit to drill.

If the farmer had direct sowed into the cold wet soil the seeds would’ve rotted.
Like gardening, farming is a lot about experience and understanding the conditions. That’s why friendly forums where we can share our experience are so helpful.

I bet those farmers are glad there were still some ploughs about, and workers with the skills to use them.

I was angry yesterday, because I didn't get a phone call from the GP, when they'd texted me to let me know I'd get one between 3pm and 5pm.

Then my wife reminded that the call is supposed to come today!! I'd written it in my diary incorrectly.

So, I must ensure I'm not out at that time!!
