Hello all, I'm just catching up with you all, it's been a hectic few days with one thing and another! It's so cold here, I have everything covered in the GH at night at the moment and it's all at a standstill, or not even germinated.
@Tui34 my hip and knee are behaving themselves quite well at the moment, long may it continue, well at least till the Autumn, thank you for asking.
On Thursday I have an eye appointment and on Friday another hearing test......we can rebuild her I hear them all say

BusyL, that’s a Chinese Pistachio - Pistacia chinensis. I planted it in 2008. Good autumn colour.

Ps. That photo is from our front veranda (where Pixel spends most mornings in the easterly sun) .

We’ve been out … we got some fresh fish and fruit and veg fromWrose and left a mattress topper to be laundered. (£38!!!) then we called in at Notcutt’s and bought several packs of these C8A4E1A6-3E40-4440-A3BF-2BB4436F2198.jpeg
for potting on the courgettes, squashes and toms. I’ve not used them before … we’ll see how they do.

I’ve tried similar pots to those @Dovefromabove , they’ve been quite successful so far

Wonderful photo, @PatE! I envy you your unobstructed view of the sky. Too many trees blocking the views.
Just back from a talk on the beavers in the river Otter. Absolutely fascinating, some lovely videos and an interesting insight into how they are changing the landscape (predominantly for the better) and how these benefits are being measured and monitored.
Not sure if I’ll get any gardening done today. It started to drizzle not long after I got home, but we at least got the bird feeders topped up before that.

@Blue arbour, some wonderful buys at the farm shop! It is fascinating watching the birds at this time of year. I've refilled my nesting material 'cages' with alpaca wool again as it is disappearing very quickly.
@pattie, Its a long time since I was on the north eastern coast but I do remember Whitley Bay from my youth and how beautiful the sands were.

I have used fibre pots for several years now - similar idea to those you have bought @Dovefromabove - and they have been very good. The plant roots grow through the fibre well and the pots do not disintegrate on the greenhouse staging. Its nice to just use a bulb planter and to drop the fibre pot into the hole When the time is right.

@Ergates, that talk sounds very interesting indeed. Luckily I got a dry day today and spent a few hours in the garden. I have a tall planter, which has been living in the garage for a while so I manage to drill its base to add additional drainage (the legs are hollow) but I didn't think extra holes would be a bad idea. It is all planted up now, with Spring flowering alpines, outside my back door. It is just the right height to work at comfortably without having to bend down.

Yep, our trip to Nova Scotia will be interesting. Its not just the stop overs on the way up, but then the stop overs on the way back to be planned. And try to keep it at about 5 hours of driving the longest between. And finding a good airbnb, that does not cost crazy amount etc., and reasonable distance from our focused tour places. After I have that plotted, then I research restaurants. Right now I have the first two Airbnb found, now working on the Nova Scotia one---will stay at least 5 -7 days there. Have to then organize Whale watching tours, and find the different celebrations they have and other points of interest. Fun

Its Tuesday. Voting day here, called the "primaries" So out to stand in line to vote for my choice. Have to say about the two choices. We go to a lot of car shows, with lots of crowds about, thousands of people etc. And we only see one name of a person on flags, and T-shirts and hats. We never see the name of the other person. And as we travel the roads about here, we also see the name of one person, and never the other person in flags or banners. And that was last year and this year.

Later my chess club meets, and then in the evening I attend a trivia game. Beautiful weather here. have a good day all.

@redstar, it is so nice to have something to look forward to towards the back end of the year. I expect that you will see some stunning Autumn colours on your trip in August.

Good evening all. It was another cold and miserable day. Today is St. George, an he is patron of my town. Every year we have plenty of activities and happenings in tow, but today everything were canceled due to rain and wind. On the end I got all wet in walk with Max. He didn't care, but now he is sleeping near log burner.
