You’ve had a busy afternoon @Dovefromabove. I managed to do a bit more in the garden this afternoon - taking fleece off pots, checking to see what had survived (most of it, I’m pleased to say), removing dead growth and then moving most of them to their summer homes. I’ve still got more to do, but tomorrow is another day.

When I got in, I prepared the meat for tonight’s dinner. We are trying a cut of beef known as Jacob’s ladder or rising rib. I’ve not cooked it before, but the butcher said to give it long, slow cooking in the oven similar to how you cook brisket. So, it’s slow roasting now. I hope it turns out ok. . I must say, your meal sounds delicious, @Dovefromabove, I bet the smell is divine. I do like the combination of chicken with lemon. I like to do a tray bake meal with everything in one pot - it makes life simpler. We had Mary Berry’s sausage supper the other night - such a simple dish to put together and very tasty.
I think you’ve earned a well deserved rest .

 

Hello there @Rosie loves nature. I hope that your milk and Summer dress have been safely delivered by now. I've been dividing up a pot of apple mint as my friend has asked me for a piece of it. In my view this is the best mint type for making mint sauce

 

The first load of washing (including the compression sleeves son has to wear) is on the line … I do love this machine … it has a very efficient quick wash programme … hopefully a lot of the laundry will be ready for him to take back with him tomorrow afternoon

 

@redstar, thank you also for your lovely pictures - the azalea is an absolute stunner. Mine is just beginning to open. Maybe tomorrow I will be able to take some pictures. I would like to get some pics of my camassias as they are near to going over now.

 

I don't very often post here but I do read along most days. I just wanted to say sympathy to all who have lost loved ones recently.
Also, on the subject of doing a Bowie, I was all set to arrange this - I thought it would be so much easier. But my daughter was horrified by the idea. So please check that your family are ok with it first.

 

@Badly_Maintained I am so sorry about the difficult times that you and your village friends have been going through. I hope your mother isn't suffering from anything serious.

We enjoyed looking around the NGS garden. It was quite grand, 10 acres with bluebells and cowslips in the parkland area, a walled garden with veg and flowers and harbaceous borders.

Then we had lunch with our friend who had also invited a couple of our best friends in Norfolk. We are back home now feeling replete and sleepy.

 

My deep condolences @Badly_Maintained, that's a lot of unhappy events for you to deal with. I do hope your Mother recovers well and the medics find out what is wrong.

On a happier note, loved your photos of the bulbs - you were so pessimistic about the chances of their survival and look at them now! Well done.

I got rained off by lunchtime so had an afternoon snooze, then re-read some old gardening books. Might have another wander round the garden in a mo.

I haven't even sown my runner beans, dwarf beans or carrots yet @Dovefromabove, been waiting for more constant temps and must admit got carried away on the compost bin project instead!

 

@Dovefromabove Bernard Hill was a great John Lennon in John, Paul, George, Ringo & Bert at the Everyman in the 70s too. Great actor and a Manchester lad to boot!

 

@lizzie27 I haven't sown my runner beans yet either. I will sow them when I get back to France, which is where the veg garden is.
