Squirrels always steal my heucheras. They eat the roots.

It's been a fine day. The washing dried. I did some gardening this afternoon.

Settling down, feeling smug and self satisfied that I've been able to pot up new gooseberry plants today.
A complete surprise to find branches from one of our bushes having re-planted themselves, and new shoots growing with their independent root systems.
Why is it that I've never been able to propagate plants by taking cuttings, when my Dad could take as many cuttings as he wanted, and every single one would grow?
If I actually get new bushes this way, I will be so pleased! So will my wife - she loves the tart flavour of gooseberries.

Anyone else propagated this way? Or have you all been successful doing it the standard way?

Awake and having some tea. Cooler temperatures. My cat is resting on his very own rather attractive footstool.

Good morning all. I have plans for today, but OH has already scuppered those by changing HER schedule, which means she will not be out all day.

I'm keen to see if my gooseberry plants survived the night, or whether I have pots of nothing!

Good morning @Rosie loves nature, @RowlandsCastle and later arrivals. I watched a cheeky squirrel scampering along the fence this morning. Yesterday I did discover some of their Autumn handiwork as I have several little oak trees that need to be removed today. Time for tea and cereals now.

@lizzie27, I am smiling, trying to make a connection between the arrival of your DIL and having to load the dishwasher?

@RowlandsCastle, I haven't had that self layering with a fruit bush but I have a lovely Percy Wiseman yakushimanum rhododendron that did that several years ago and is now just starting to burst into bloom.

                    Good Morning all.

I didn’t have time to call in yesterday so I hope everyone is ok.

We have a misty morning here. I’m just having a coffee before setting off for my course today. I’ll swing by the SM for a lunch meal deal as my planned avocado wrap has been thwarted by a rock hard avocado.

                    Have a good day all.

                      Good morning all :coffee1:
                      I hope everyone’s had a restful night.
It’s 9C and overcast here in Norfolk, but apparently we have sunshine to look forward to.
I’ve got a bit of paperwork to do this morning before I get out in the garden … then it’s choir this afternoon, an easy supper and an early night as I’ve an early start tomorrow morning … the car needs to be at the garage for its new cam belt by 8 am and it’s about a 45 minute drive :rolleyespink:

@AuntyRach, at least you can look forward to your avocado ripening eventually.
@Dovefromabove, will you have to kill time whilst the cam belt is being replaced? Are there interesting places near the garage? I've no clue as to how long that sort of a job takes.

After a visit to take photos last Thursday, no news. I was going to give them a week, then chase.

I've got so many things to do today, after OH goes out, that I'm going to be rushed off my feet!! I might catch up by, ....., 2026.

Wife is planning to go away in September, for a week, to France, but the plans could fall apart so easily.
I get so much more done when she's not about. Only, she's the cook and chauffeur.

Good morning everyone. The sun has broken through the mist and it promises to be a good day. I've checked my marigolds and they haven't been eaten overnight, so I'm relieved.
I'm taking it easy today as I'm so tired after a few days painting and gardening and not sleeping very well. A bit of shopping and relaxing on the garden bench, reading my book is what I have in mind.
@RowlandsCastle, take it steady, you always seem so busy!

@Ladybird4 it’s a longish job which is why they want to get an early start … but the garage owner is lending me a car to use while he has mine. It’s not that far from where I used to live so there are folk and places I could visit, but I really want to get on with stuff at home as we’re going to MIL’s on Saturday. The job is being done as part of the purchase price of the car as when I bought it I pointed out that it was nearly due.
