Monday. Overcast today, looks like rain. 67degrees, not quite 8AM. Coffee still.
Finished the second coat of stain for the deck wood rocker, will drag it up the steps later and get the cushion for it from the basement.

The gazebo needs sweeping out and fixing up, husband power washed it 2 weeks ago, was waiting till it all dried out inside so I could sweep the dirt from the floor, its like getting a whole room ready. During the winter all cushions are put in waterproof/mouse proof containers. Picture of the gazebo couple years ago, it has a rod iron couch in it, a center table with four chairs and a chaise lounge. And I have a rod iron center chandelier that holds a large candle. Other candle things hang about inside also. In front outside is my solar fountain, still have to set that up. I am only behind in my mind, LOL. No gazebo police out here.
Have a good day all. Gazebo.jpg

Best wishes to @Punkdoc, you can do it! We are behind you cheering you on.

The sun has come out at last, it's late according to the forecast.

I've been doing paperwork, just sent a cheque for a bill and forgot to put a stamp on it, bother [IMG] . I hate paperwork. Don't feel I've achieved anything much this morning, unlike gardening which makes me feel good.

I adore that gazebo @redstar! I’d be in there all the time!

Curve ball to @Punkdoc - would you ever consider a dog companion? A little buddy to follow you round in the garden and snuggle with? Face licking optional (probably not optional).

Interesting, @AuntyRach, OH has wanted a dog for ages, she grew up with them. Up until now, the time has never seemed quite right, but now.....who knows.

Certainly something to think about, @Punkdoc. Do you both good, and if you get a rescue dog, you’ll be giving it a second chance, it’ll repay you a thousandfold.
You are probably getting swamped with virtual hugs, but have some more from me.
Off to Bath tomorrow to return son’s dog, and will stay over for a mini break. I’ll confess to some relief that it will be a bit cooler, I do struggle with hot weather. I’d better water the pots before we go. I suspected that there might have been a birds nest in my hanging basket. However, I had a careful look this morning, and I think the blue tits have been scavenging the moss, possibly for nests. Why don’t they help themselves from the ‘lawn’ like the squirrels do?

We are unlikely to be allowed a rescue dog as the garden is not fenced and we are surrounded by open countryside, which apparently the charities don't like.

@Ergates, one year the coir linings of my wall troughs were completely stripped out by the birds but since I've started putting alpaca fleece out for them, the troughs have been left alone. Little rascals!
I am signing out for today. No quizzing tonight as we have a bye this week. See you all tomorrow.
Hope you all have good evenings.

I would suggest a Labrador from a gundog strain … I know I’m biased, but they’re usually much more easily trained and are usually marvellous companions, really enjoying the company of humans. I swear Boss understood every word we said. He was great company.

Or a staffie- they're so loving and easy to train (I'm a bit biased, though). Labs are my very favourite, though.

Yes animal charities are quite picky with environment, but it’s usually a main road with no fence they object too. Shame as your lifestyle as a couple would be a dream scenario for some lucky woof.

I was going to suggest a retired greyhound @Punkdoc , they are such lovely dogs. But, as you already said, the garden needs to be secure.
Best wishes with the meds reducing too, you’ll feel fab once it’s done

Evening everybody, it's been another really nice day so I've cracked on with a refurb of the old wooden growhouse. My son mended the roof yesterday (a cat jumped onto it from the fence last year and cracked it) and OH mended the hinges so it lives on for another day. I made myself throw away lots of 'things that might come in useful' so it's not so stuffed as usual. Unfortunately we then found out that the shed floor is soaking wet and rotten in one corner so we had to pull everything out (yet more rubbish!) and leave the doors open to dry it out. I suspect that as the shed is about 1 metre below the level of the cul de sac road above us, it is getting underground run off, not sure what, if anything we can do about that.

@Ergates, don't know whether you're driving or taking the train tomorrow but be aware that apparently North Parade Bridge has been closed indefinitely because it's in danger of collapsing so there were dreadful traffic jams a week or so ago - don't know whether that's still the case.
Everything's having to go over Churchill Bridge for south of the town.

@Punkdoc, hang on in there - certainly a dog sounds an interesting idea and may help a lot with your recovery.

@Dovefromabove , did you manage to get your broken tooth sorted out? We were horrified yesterday when my son told us he's going to have to pay £7k for 13 yr old granddaughter's new braces! You could put a deposit for a house for that kind of money in the olden days!

                          Love your summerhouse @redstar.

@lizzie27 my first house cost £1,000. £200 down and an £800 bank loan. It was an old pub and an acre of land … it needed renovating of course … a lot of work … some folks thought we’d paid over the odds and would never get our money back.

I’ve a hygienist appointment tomorrow at 8:30 so will discuss the tooth then with someone. The hygienist is my dentist’s daughter and the receptionist is his wife. i must get up early if I’m going to get there showered , dressed and compos mentis … someone wake me at 6 please.
                            Night night, sleep tight.
