No problem @RowlandsCastle … just order a supermarket delivery for an hour or so after your planned arrival time. If you’re really going to arrive very late then schedule the delivery for first thing the next morning.
Every holiday cottage I’ve ever stayed in (and that’s a lot) have had enough tea coffee and milk for several cuppas when we’ve arrived, and also biscuits etc … sometimes a plate of homemade scones and jam etc. just pop a pack of biscuits and a carton of steri milk in your suitcase just in case and wait for the supermarket delivery. They’re very efficient nowadays.

Good morning everyone. Another rainy start to my day and I need to go and get the newspaper for my elderly ex cat sitter.
I was so sorry to read the further news about your BIL @lizzie27 it must be such a worry for your sis and the rest of the family.
@RowlandsCastle, I agree completely with @Dovefromabove in that you can get a supermarket delivery. When my family and friends used to go away for our February half term holidays we used this facility often. You just have to get your list organised in advance and then place the order online. Simples!

 

@lizzie27 the M6 is a dreadful road these days and as it has been a while since I travelled that far on it, I was appalled at the state of the carriageways - like ordinary roads they are pitted and potholed everywhere. Add extra time onto your planned journey would be my best advice.

 

I do hope @lizzie27 has brighter news this morning.

We heard yesterday evening that my dear MIL’s scan was all clear. Phew!


We have a lovely bright morning … just a little high cloud … temp 13C and heading for the mid to high teens apparently

Overcast and humid here with a good breeze. It's warm. Oh some spits!!

@Obelix-Vendée It was late when I posted last night, but I was rather appalled that you had to drive 40kms with a deceased animal to a crematorium. How traumatic for you, just to add to the sadness!! Didn't the vet offer this service or the crematorium?

I hope the news this morning of your BIL is good @lizzie27 Awful spending nights in hospitals waiting around. Glad to hear of your MIL's clear scan @Dovefromabove

That is a good idea from @Dovefromabove re food, but what about getting around sightseeing? A mile walk to the bus stop isn't too bad - it's just long on the way home! Sounds like you'll be doing lots of walking!! Take strong sensible shoes! Hire a tandem electric bike? But it's a lovely surprise present.

Som HW today - maybe but a definite faff in the garden. Always weeding (bindweed) and snipping to do.

Ah … OH has had a phone call. Manager is off sick. Can he please do an 11-3 shift? Given that we need to buy a new tv, he’s said yes he can.

 

Hello everyone. We are still getting rain,

So we’re inside still, but ok. More of the same everyday, but it doesn’t bother us. I’ve got a good book and jigsaw puzzles on my iPad to keep me occupied.

@RowlandsCastle - I would contact the owners of the holiday rental to ask/check that deliveries from certain SMs will go there, the bus timetable, and also any taxi companies (in case you fancy a lift back one day).

Good news re MIL @Dovefromabove. I hope you can have your new tv soon too - like you said, it’s Wimbledon coming up! I’ve booked the semi final and finals days off!

Great news about your MIL's scan @Dovefromabove!

@Tui34 when my dog died in France the vet dealt with everything and I was given an urn with his ashes. Previous dogs who died before the change in law were buried in the paddock.

It's raining. Oh well, that will water my newly planted plants. My knee will be glad of a rest from gardening. I think I'll do the ironing sitting in front of the TV.

 

Not sure if there’ll be room on the sofa @RowlandsCastle , what with me, @Aunty Rach and several others, plus my knitting … you might have to lounge on chaise longue More folk for the tea and coffee rota are always welcome.

 

Re the holiday cottage @RowlandsCastle .. I meant to say some rentals are part of schemes that encourage holiday makers to use local shops, farm shops etc by providing a pre arrival ordering and delivery service. Might be worth enquiring …

Sorry to read about your pets @Obelix-Vendée.
I think a lot of useful suggestions have been put forward regarding getting food to the property @RowlandsCastle plus suggestions for transport. Would your wife consider a hire car to be collected from and dropped off near to where you will be arriving and leaving - public transport can be a bit hit and miss? Otherwise, have some food basics with you and get a taxi from your place of arrival to the property so that you at least have something to put you on until a delivery can be arranged.
The weather is a bit mixed here this morning, so I don’t think I’ll get much done in the way of gardening today unless it brightens up a bit more.
