Good to see you @Topbird. Where are you heading off to this time when you are pondering about a right or left turn? At least it will be warmer than your trip to Antarctica.

Left or right turn from the Hook of Holland @Ladybird4. We were originally planning to head for the Baltic coast with a view to exploring the beaches up near the Polish border - but it's not exactly beach weather is it?? Still might go that way as there are some interesting medieval towns in the area (eg Lubeck and Wismar).
Or we might head south - either Germany or France.
Is your sister heading back to France this year?

Evening everybody, we're just back home after a very enjoyable break in Buxton (Peak District). My brother, his partner and my nephew met us yesterday for lunch. I haven't seen them since our younger brother's funeral in April so it was good to meet up. Afterwards I had a very luxurious Indian Head Massage at the Spa and nearly fell asleep, then OH and I met up in one of the pools for a quick dip. It was 1.2 m deep so I had a job to keep my balance - the water was over my chin! Slept like a log later.
We were pleased that the weather was better than forecast and we only had a shower or two. Quite chilly in the mornings though. Had an anxious moment this morning coming down the slip road to the M6 in Stoke when the tyre pressure warning lit up so drove slowly and carefully to the next services where OH checked and adjusted the tyre pressures. He couldn't see any punctures so fingers crossed, decided we were good to go.

Hope your dog will be okay @Tui34

@Topbird, sis and brother-in-law are accompanying the England rugby team on their way to New Zealand via Japan this month. England are playing one match in Japan on June 22nd and then they move on to New Zealand for two further test matches on 6th and 13th July. All right for some! Sis is hoping to squeeze in a trip to France before the Internationals start in November.
Whichever route you choose I hope that you will keep us up to speed with pictures and reports. I do enjoy the Travels with @Topbird!

              Hi all

Thank you for the messages of support and for the advice, it is really helpful getting lots of different opinions, without them it is easy to only see one way through.

Today has been better, I feel a corner might be being turned, early days, but good signs. I certainly hope so as we should be going away for a week at the end of June. We are hopefully going up to the far North of Scotland, my favourite place on earth. We will be staying in a very isolated cottage, with its own beach, in an area I know very well. Luckily there is a brilliant pub, with great sea food about 5 miles away that I have been visiting for over 40 years. [ For anyone who knows the area, it is near Red Point, on the opposite side of the bay to Gairloch ]
I do think I will need to be a bit better, it is possibly not the place to be, if the worst happens, and very unfair on Moira.

@Punkdoc, it was good to read your post and I really hope that the first awful corner HAS been turned for you. Your Scottish destination sounds truly wonderful - something to look forward to.
@lizzie27, pleased to read that Madam 6 was quite kind to you on your travels today. Signing out for today. Enjoy your evenings. Catch you all tomorrow.

Well hi. What an interesting day out.
We support a charity organisation called CARE, and we're invited to drinks and lunch.

                  IMG_20240612_200421836.jpg

A chance to meet the peer, Lord Curry, together with the senior personnel from the charity CARE and a dozen or so other people who have been supporting the charity.

Lord Curry also offered to give a personal tour of the place to those who wanted to, after lunch. With the warning that there were lots of steps, I had to decline, but encouraged my wife to go. Such a shame I couldn't go. But, with limited mobility, it was the right decision.
One very quickly realises that no matter what position in society people hold, they are still human, like the rest of us. So refreshing!

Morning everyone. As expected it’s very cold with snow falling in the Perisher Valley areas. None here yet, so we are happy about that.

A very good morning from us in the UK @PatE and to all who join in later.
A massive thank you @RowlandsCastle for the pics of the wonderful menu - I hope you were able to do every course justice! It must have been such an interesting day. Well done on working to help such a great Charity.
It is my turn on the rota to do duty - with my Bestie - at the Food Bank this morning so I'll be picking her up at 09:00ish.

Good morning @AuntyRach. I don't sleep too well and am often up very early. Oddly enough, when I was working I never had to use an alarm clock as my usual waking time is round about 06:00ish no matter what time I go to bed. You have a good day too. :blue thumb:

                              Hi all

5C overnight, no wonder the tender plants are making so little progress, it really is a very odd year in the garden.
I am seeing the GP today, to see whether he can offer anything useful on the way forward.

                                Good morning all!

And good news at this end for my Border Collie; Fizz. No mammary tumours but she has irritated her vulva maybe from a scratch or something, to the point that there was swelling on her tum. She got a shave and I get to spray with cortisone spray am and pm. She was very good at the vet's and boy! did she have a good go when we got home. Must have been itchy!!
                                Thank you @Ladybird4 @Busy-Lizzie @floralies @Dovefromabove @Topbird for your kind thoughts.

Yes, it is cool here @floralies but how cold is cold when you have to put the heater on in the afternoon?!! It was forecast that we would have 26°C yesterday afternoon - well that didn't happen. It was sunny but the wind had a coolness in it and I had to put a long sleeved t-shirt on. Be careful with that wasp sting, have you got Betadine or some disinfectant to keep it germ-free? I put vinegar on mozzie and insect stings first thing. Helps. Let's hope the quote is firm - anyway, if you have both signed the quote, then it stands. Strange that he came back to remeasure - but as they say in the business: "Measure twice, cut once."

@Punkdoc ? It must be so hard to keep your mind off all this. I admire you for your tenacity. Hope you get to Scotland. I enjoy watching The Highland Vet. The scenery is magnificent but boy, it must be brass monkey weather in the winter out in those barns!! I'm also enjoying The Shetlands at the moment too. Good luck with your GP today.

@RowlandsCastle Bravo for supporting the charity. Nice menu - I would be interested as to what the red wine is from the "Pays D'Oc" which is where I live - hope it's a decent red and not just a table wine. (Languedoc)

I hope your sister and BIL enjoy their stay in New Zealand (God zone) @Ladybird4

                                Hello @PatE Stay cosy!!

And I think that goes for all of us - just to reassure you that down here on the Med, the weather may not be as cold as you are getting, but it's duvet weather still and a light cardy - it will probably get smoking hot all of a sudden and we'll all be gasping for air!!

                                Enjoy your Thursday.
