I always have to smile at the precise ETA - down to minutes - that courier companies quote @Dovefromabove. As you say, you have an uninterrupted morning.

      Morning all.

I kept waking up in the night. Maybe it was the rain battering on the landing sky light. Thank goodness the picnic was yesterday in the sunshine. It would be a wash out today.

Nothing much planned for today. I must buy a new gas bottle refill before the price goes up in July. It will be need for the hob. There is a pile of ironing.

Courrier companies don't quote times in France @Ladybird4. Often you don't even know if it will be morning or afternoon. I usually get stuff sent to the ironmongers in town.

@Busy-Lizzie, pleased that the picnic 'escaped' the rain yesterday. Is the ironmonger's a sort of click and collect place for anyone or are you a favoured customer? I presume they then contact you if there is a parcel to collect?

It's click and collect for anyone @Ladybird4. You get an email to say your parcel will be delivered then another email to say it has been delivered. It was very useful because until recently houses in hamlets didn't have a number or street name.

              Good morning,

Yet another chilly start to the day - the heating has kicked on once more. At least, for now, it is dry - but that is forecast to change to rain by mid day. I hope it holds off until I get back from the hairdresser.

Dentist for me in half an hour. Fingers crossed nothing needs doing, but I’m sure they’ll find something.

Lunch out yesterday for OH birthday was very nice. A small bistro in a nearby village.
Today, after the hairdresser, I must catch up with the ironing.

Hope you had a more restful night @Punkdoc.

                Hi all

Well just for a change, it is cold, windy and raining, so I will brave the city and go book shopping. With all the terrible weather and health problems, I have been getting through a huge number of books....every cloud.

That sounds like a lovely outing, @Punkdoc. I rarely buy books, as I get through them so fast that I would struggle to afford them, let alone house them! Instead I raid the library, on line these days rather than in person. I do have my collection of Iain Banks, and Iain M Banks ( including my precious signed copies) plus everything by Lee Child, and the Thursday Murder Club series. Currently working my way through a rather heavy space opera, which is slowing me down, so probably only two books read this week, rather than my usual three or four.
Out for breakfast and a walk this morning, but I can see the clouds bubbling over the sea, and the horizon has already disappeared in the murk. I think we’ll don our rainwear anyway, and have at least a short plod round the fields.
I’m singing the praises of fresh locally grown veg this week. We stopped at a farm shop on Tuesday and while I was paying for my purchases, I was tempted by a punnet of glistening cherry tomatoes by the till. I’m not kidding, they are so delicious, I’ve been grabbing a couple out of the fridge as I pass and eating them like strawberries. Just bursting with flavour.
I always wear my head torch when I venture out into the garden at night to take the fox/ badger supper out. I’ll often catch sight of eyes reflected in the light, but more often I’m keeping my gaze down on where I’m walking. Glad I did last night, as there was a toad right in the middle of the path. Looked like a juvenile, very slim and leggy. It made very good speed over to the shadows, but I was very relieved I hadn’t accidentally hurt it.
We have some impressively large bats around here! Met one under the street light last week, I swear it seemed as big as a blackbird! OH has said he will fish out his home assembled bat detector, might be able to work out the type by its sonar frequency?
Sorry, I seem to have written a novel! Hope everyone has a reasonable day.

Morning everybody, I'm afraid it's raining here as well but I can see some blue stuff up there so maybe it will clear up later. It was very sunshiney at 7 am but had clouded over by 8 am. I slept better last night but am feeling terribly tired for some reason.
OH has walked down for the paper and cakes (it's Friday - it's cake day!) but I couldn't summon the energy to go with him.
I've got lots of washing to do anyway so that's my excuse to stay at home!

I forgot to tell you yesterday about a funny sight we saw on the way home. Coming through the back end of Stoke on Trent (we got a bit lost) I noticed on the road ahead a very, very vibrant display of hanging baskets, what looked like trays of plants, garlands etc so asked OH to slow down so I could have a good look - but it was all plastic flowers! I was aghast! Rows and rows of them!
                      Never seen that before.

                      Have a good day everyone.

@Ergates, I loved Iain Banks' books, but never read his science fiction alter ego.

Morning all. Cool and probably going to be a bit showery today - but it's dry just now.

Think I told you the lawnmower was playing up. OH has sort of fixed it. Certainly works but the throttle linkage isn't quite right so it won't idle. Should be ok until it goes for service in a few months.
OH set off for work this morning and then sent a picture of the van with a very flat tyre. Fortunately he was near a tyre depot in Norwich so that's sorted.
Then I noticed the shower drain was backing up quite badly. Got my snakey brush out and had a bit of a poke around and I think that's sorted now.
Things come in threes so I hope that's it for now!!

Enjoy your book search @Punkdoc. Not sure which town you're heading for but Buxton has (had? - not sure if it's still there) one of my favourite second hand book shops arranged over 4 or 5 floors. I seem to have become a very slow reader these days. Used to devour books, but it's been a long time since I found a 'can't put it down' read.

Hope the TV's good Dove - all ready for Wimbers. JL are pretty good with their delivery times. They'll probably ring when they're leaving the call before you. Glad they did when we had a new washing machine last winter. I was able to stand on the road with a torch to direct them to our house. Nobody can find us in the dark on our unlit lane...

With you on the plastic flowers Lizzie :mute:. My pet hate is those dreadful plastic box balls.

Hello all, a very warm day but rain expected later on so OH is cutting the grass. We have been picking bowl fulls of cherries, lots given away to our neighbours, they are very expensive to buy. We also have bats and toads @Ergates, we have to be very careful at night to remember to put our outside lights on when we open the front door as a very large female toad sits on our doorstep and is likely to be trodden on otherwise

                              Hello all.

Just catching up. I wiped out after my 12 hour shift yesterday so slept in today then went to Dad’s to fit new grill element (saving £100 by doing ourselves) and home via SM for a cheeky Danish to have now, pizza for tea and some strawberries for pud.

No rain yet today but a few plants battered from yesterday’s weather so just fiddling about with those.

                              Hope everyone is ok.

Ended up with a very successful morning. We took our raincoats in back packs, but it didn’t rain, in fact the sun came out and we walked for over two hours, then sat in the sun and listened to the birds singing. Stopped to watch our favourite giant Poitou donkeys having their luxuriant hair brushed! They seemed to be enjoying it very much, but it must be like painting the Forth Bridge, lots of tangles to be unknotted! As we started to drive home, it began to rain, sometimes our timing is perfect!
@Punkdoc, I was going to suggest The Business as a good introduction to Iain M Banks sci-fi novels, but I see it was published under his Iain Banks name, so you’ve probably already read it. Otherwise, my favourite sci-fi of his is Feersum Enjinn, can be a bit daunting as partly written phonetically, but features a character called Ergates the Ant! I met Iain at a book signing one year, a really funny and likeable guy, and much missed ( especially by my children, who always knew what to buy me for Christmas)
This is Dartanyan. You can get an idea of the grooming challenge! 20240507_123450.jpeg
