Another Iain Banks book worth a look is Raw Spirit which is his only nonfiction title. It is basically a series of roadtrips round Scotland looking for the perfect dram.

There’s a Poitou stallion at Banham zoo (or there was last time I was there). Magnificent creature.

The tv s here and I think I’ve got the hang of it. I’ve found the athletics

Loved Raw Spirit, great descriptions of driving on some of Scotland’s most iconic roads.

When I went to Scotland, I used a tour bus group. If I felt I could master driving on the other side I would have just rented a car.

Evening all (can't bend ze knees... not at my age).
First, thank you so much for the birthday wishes. Very kind for a what I still consider myself to be a 'newbie' among you! I had the most lovely day, centered around eating lots!
We went to a fabulous and huge nursery, going onto the GC it feeds. I was quite restrained in my spending, buying several pots of cut and cut again lettuce to supplement my slow growing seedlings, a gorgeous watermelon peperomia (for its stunning leaves) and a nepeta to pot up for my wildlife plot... cats included!
We had a lovely lunch by a favourite beauty spot by the river where we visited last year and an evening meal at our local Bengali restaurant.
Today, apart from dodging heavy showers again, shopping and medical stuff have been on the agenda.
Have fun with your new TV @Dovefromabove- there's an awful lot of sport to come this summer but the football for me is something to avoid too!
Continuing best wishes for @Punkdoc. I love reading, finding it relaxing and a way of taking my mind off things- calming me down, as it were.
Have a good evening, all and may the weekend be filled with fun and sunshine.

Sounds like you had a wonderful day, @pattie! Better keep to nice calming books, @Punkdoc. The last few I’ve read have been real nail biters, and inclined to give me bad dreams or wake me in the night. A shame, as when I wake in the night after a bad dream, I often resort to reading a book ( on my iPad so I don’t need to put the light on) but it doesn’t help if the cure turns out to be worse than the problem!
Just had to refill the bird feeders. They are getting emptied so quickly, and I don’t think it’s just the jackdaws. There was a queue of robins and blue tits waiting impatiently for us to rehang the feeders from the branches, the greater spotted woodpecker has already been for a visit, and a blackbird is being pestered by two offspring. Hungry lot.

I fill mine early in the morning and I hear the little birds in the trees twittering away with anticipation (I can imagine them dancing up and down on their perches, as it were). Yes, it's not just the big greedy birds... and there's a resident squirrel probably scoffing quite a bit too. The dog is on a not very successful mission to keep it in check!

                  It has rained all day.

There is a big mulberry tree next to my house. Silly place to plant it as it drops mulberries all over the lower terrace when I want to put the outdoor sofa and armchairs there, terrible mess, not easy to sweep up. Everyday it is full of noisy birds. I think they are starlings. I'm glad someone is enjoying the fruit most of it is too high for us to reach. Every time I go outside they all screech in alarm and fly up in a great dark cloud. I hope they will have gone away, though, by the time the peaches and raspberries are ripe.

A very good morning one and all. Finally the temporary traffic lights have gone and all the barricades were stacked on a low loader late yesterday afternoon so now life in the Cres. can get back to a semblance of order. The lovely grassy plot looks like a warzone at the moment but I think it will recover given time.
@pattie, I have an almost tame robin who sits on the kitchen windowsill when the bird feeder in the back garden is empty - almost as if he/she is giving me the heads up that I need to get out and fill it up.

                      Good morning all :coffee1:
I hope everyone’s had a restful night. It’s 10C and overcast here … apparently we can expect it to rise to 17C later along with some wind and showers …

Morning everyone, yes it's a bit groundhog day here weather-wise. Starts quite dry and promising but the the showers come. Yesterday I ended up changing the tap valves on the bathroom mixer tap. Of course the sun came out and stayed dry from about halfway through the job. I did make it to the Allotments later. The rain is a bit more persistent today so not sure if I will get outside.

                            Morning all.

Looks rather cool and grey outside. Will probably rain. Can't do the ironing as I did it yesterday in front of "Question Time". I'm afraid FB gets on my nerves with her constant interruptions.

Tonight we are going out with son and family for an early dinner in a restaurant.

Hello all, feeling really fed up today as i was stung twice by wasps yesterday evening, another one on the same leg as last Mondays and one the hand, oh they do hurt!! I've also hurt my back which doesn't help matters. I wish i didn't react so badly, it always takes a week for redness, pain and itching to go even with creams and antihistamine tablets.
I'm hoping the rain might stop in Nottingham and I can watch the tennis later. It's chilly and drizzly here.
Enjoy your weekend everyone whatever you are up to.
