Did you watch the England game, @Ladybird4, I know it was only Japan, but I was quite impressed. They tried to be much more attacking than in recent years.

T has been in touch. He’s going to the hospital to see J this afternoon (hopefully with her sister?). On Monday I’ll take him to the car recovery place to see how his car is. I can hear him pottering in the garden so I think he’s fairly ok. :fingers crossed:

I have one of those memories that retains odd bits of (mainly useless) information. Prince Charles received his Aston Martin as a 21st birthday present from his mother. He still has it, and it now runs on bio-ethanol made from the waste products of cheese and wine production :Wino:

@Punkdoc, I didn't see the match but must admit when watching recent Japan games that I, too, have been quite impressed with their play. I think the next two matches in New Zealand will be a different kettle of fish altogether.

@Dovefromabove, if I remember correctly, King Charles lent his Aston Martin to William and Kate when they got married.
Positive news too about your NDN.

                Good afternoon everyone,

We have another beautiful day here. OH has been busy fixing on a new cover for the awning as the original was in a terrible state. It’s not been a straightforward job (is anything that should be simple?). Anyway, it’s done now and seems to be working. It’s not as wide or as long as the original but we had to buy a shorter one because we couldn’t roll up the original one without it catching on the new fascia board and pulling it away. The man doing that job assured us he would sort out the awning so it wouldn’t catch, but he didn’t, even when we got him back, he didn’t sort it properly. Annoying, but there it is. I’m afraid he’s burnt his boat, though, as we won’t use him for any other job.

I’m glad your neighbour T is home @Dovefromabove, but, like you, I would have chided him for doing the journey on the bus instead of getting a taxi. I hope his wife will soon be home, too.

I’ve not been following the football, so can’t really comment. It’s not something that interests me to be honest (no sport does, really; not Wimbledon, the Olympics, anything. I’ve watched the occasional rugby union game as OH used to play for his local team, and likes to watch an occasional match on tv, but even he doesn’t follow it as avidly as he gets very frustrated by England, which isn’t good for his BP ).

The grass needs cutting. I had plans to do it whilst OH was doing the awning, but my back is still playing up from the other day when I over stretched to reach a hanging basket. Will I ever learn? Probably not :heehee:. It’s more troublesome when I sit than when I move about, though. I think I must still think I’m 25 .

@Blue arbour it was an established fact that absolutely all posters on the GW forum were 27. No more, no less.
I wonder if it’s possible that here on GC we’re actually all two years younger?

Saturday, will be too hot here for me, 93. Can't even do a good tidy up in beds. so sad. Still need to cut grass, but not as low as I usually do, the ridding mower will cause a breeze as I whip around trees.
Yesterdays trip decently successful in selling car parts, so off to the bank with deposit. That money will go to cover the car show trip to Kentucky. Nice to meet the buyer, he brought his wife, so she and I had some good chats. They live way up North part of New Jersey, we met half way. He's rebuilding a corvette, so needed certain parts we have, that's the second corvette our parts have gone to, few more to sell.
Don't care what others say, I do not like summer, need back some good snow storms anytime compared to this. Move to Alaska. LOL. Take care all.

@Punkdoc, sis said it was a shame about Ewels red card and as that is the second one he has had in consecutive tests he will probably get a ban.

@Blue arbour, have you thought about reporting your tradesman to Trading Standards? It is so disappointing when they don't live up to their word.

Afternoon all, had a lazy morning as I overdid it yesterday but after lunch I started putting coats of varnish on our newish hand rail up back garden steps. I hadn't realised that if I've got muddy gardening gloves on, that would be transferred onto the handrail - idiot! Anyway, first coat nearly finished when I peered underneath to see if I'd coated all round. As I peered of course, I tipped the varnish tin up , all over our beautiful Indian sandstone paving. Frantic wash downs ensued, good job it was a water soluble varnish!
Do hope your NRNs will be okay @Dovefromabove
Fractured vertebrae are so painful as I know to my cost, doesn't bear thinking about.
@steephill , enjoy your cycling holiday in France, glad you've got a nice campsite. Or is that Topbird? This thread's so long sometimes I forget who's done what.
A mystery for you all. Does anybody know what this strange creature is please. Seen by DIL last night in wooded area, no tail, size of a hand, squeaked loudly at dog but not frightened of it.
                            Those claws look quite vicious!
Enjoy the weekend and footie, tennis, F1 etc, etc.

@lizzie27 it’s the time of year when yiunv tawny owls leave the nest and hang around squawking for parents to come and feed them. They usually perch in branches but I have known them to take a tumble. They can be very fluffy, depending on age.

Another idea is a mole … they can squeal very loudly when cornered and they certainly have claws.

                              is there a pic?
