Bloomin' 'eck - it's getting hot here!

OH set off on a bike ride this am. On other days he's been gone for over 3 hrs but today was back after about 90mins. We are so much in the middle of nowhere that the nearest town where there's any hope of getting something to eat or drink is an hour each way on a bike. It's also a little more rolling than he expected (very much like cycling in our home county of Suffolk). He takes water and stuff with him but was concerned about getting burnt, dehydrated or exhausted. Glad he's being sensible.

Temps should peak in the low 30's on Friday then cool down a bit. Meanwhile I'm staying in the shade swotting medieval Latin (ready for summer school in a few weeks) with an occasional break to either flop in the pool or stand under a cool shower.

@Badly_Maintained - Good news with the scan results:dbgrtmb:

@Dovefromabove - hope R feels better soon & you're ok for the concert. We both had either a very bad cold or (judging from my symptoms) possibly Covid, a few weeks ago. Knocked us both for six for a couple of days and I have a lingering cough (now much better - but it's certainly taken its time). Seems to be a lot of this particular lurgy about... Take care.

Right - back to the books - do, das, dat.....

Getting too hot to garden, time to lie in the shade.
Hope your virus doesn't hinder your singing, @Dovefromabove

        Good afternoon,

It’s very muggy here today and the sun keeps disappearing behind cloud. I’m later posting because I had some admin to sort out in town today, double checking that something was genuine. (It is, so I can go ahead and do what I need to do). I’m always suspicious these days when unexpected emails arrive informing me that I need to do something (especially when money is involved), so my antennae twitched a bit.

So glad to hear that your scan result came back normal @Badly_Maintained, and I hope your next bout of tests do, too.

Hope your OH feels better quickly @Dovefromabove and that you don’t get it :fingers crossed:.

I’m just enjoying a refreshing cup of tea and then I might go out and cut back the foxgloves that are just about finished before I end up with trillions of seeds going where I don’t want them. They really have been stunning this year. I’m pleased to say that some of the tomatoes are ripening at long last, so will collect the ripe ones later to go on the salad tonight.

          Thanks folks :grphg:
Ive been to Boots for some cold/flu type meds. The pharmacist said she’s running very low on stocks of the Max strength one … I had the last pack … she said there’s a virus doing the rounds but she’s not heard it’s COVID … she said more likely a ‘summer flu’ sort of thing over in a few days. Let’s hope she’s right.

OH has not lost his appetite We had homemade minestrone for lunch … and I’ve prepped everything for a Salade Niçoise for supper. Definitely a Mediterranean vibe here today.

He usually has a 20 min nap after lunch when he’s not at the shop … he has done ever since I’ve known him … today he’s allowing himself a proper sleep as he didn’t sleep much last night. I’m to wake him at 2:30 if he’s not woken by then. I shall knit and supervise the tennis.

          :recliner:

Enjoying the warm here. Just cleaned and waxed the front door, partly to have door open get some air flow as it’s humid even inside (according to gadget).

I did a year of Latin in school @Topbird - I was rubbish at it! A few words come in handy for botanical names though.

Thats a quick MRI result @Badly_Maintained - sounds reassuring.

I hope OH’s cold buzzes off without reaching you @Dovefromabove. There are colds and covid about (people rarely test so difficult to tell) in the community and hospitals.

No tomatoes here yet @Blue arbour - that’s a great result if you eating some in June!

Tuesday. Cooler today. feeling much better.
Soon leaving for Chess Club meet up. Prior will be meeting with someone to buy a item I have on Facebook Market place. He's meeting me at the Library. The goal to get rid of stuff in the house continues. Still need to get rid of more.
Then some food shopping. Again the chore, of "what's for dinner". LOL.
                  Take care all.

Super news @Badly_Maintained! I agree with you completely about accepting anything offered. After I had my cancer operation I was offered a course of radiotherapy - told I more than likely didn't require it but guess what - no brainer! Of course I accepted the month's treatment - Monday-Friday for the four weeks. On the last day of treatment I asked for an early appointment as I was travelling to Paris in the afternoon as England were playing South Africa in the Rugby World Cup final on the Saturday. They were convinced I wouldn't feel up to the travel - we were driving - but they were wrong. Sadly England lost but we consoled ourselves by driving down to my sis and BIL's caravan in the south of France and had a marvellous week.

@Topbird, I think you are doing the sensible thing - well apart from the Latin swotting! Sounds really nice having a cool pool or shower to hand when you feel overheated.
Glad to hear that your OH is feeling a bit better @Dovefromabove, just hope you manage to escape the illness.
Hope that you enjoyed your chess afternoon @redstar.
@Blue arbour, my tomatoes are still green - but getting there. I have been able to pick a few wild strawberries from the potful outside my back door. They taste exquisite.

It was the last meeting of my art group today before summer, but so many of us are away, that I decided not to go. Hub has a check up with the consultant tomorrow, so there were things I needed to do today, so I can take him tomorrow.
I wanted to finish a little watercolour of a friend's pup, but that can wait.

Afternoon all, it's a little cooler now after reaching over 30c earlier, so that's a blessing.
Had a haircut in town this morning so also indulged in some shopping, new T shirts and costume jewellry from M&S. Now taking it easy (and getting hungry) as it's a fasting day.
That's fantastic news @Badly_Maintained and good of the GP to ring so fast.
Fingers crossed for you @Dovefromabove, hope your OH recovers soon.
@Penny_Forthem , hope your OH's appointment tomorrow goes well.
@redstar, I hate the monotony of that ' what shall we have for dinner' thought. Good luck with yours. My children used to say they knew what day of the week it was by the dinners I served up - ouch! but when you're a busy working mother, there's not much time to think ahead and plan.
@Ladybird4, you were brave to go on that long journey. Reminds me of my mum when she had to have radiotherapy, she commented ' I quite like coming here, I meet so many people I know!
                          Have a good evening all.

NDN is home … she has a spinal brace enclosing her torso. She has to wear it for 6-8 weeks … she says it’s really uncomfortable and her muscles keep going into spasms … but she’s still pretty doped up on morphine for the journey at the moment … I’ve said well keep clear of them until we’re sure OH’s not infectious, but if they need anything I can pop into Wrose after choir tomorrow.
