Unfortunately a spring has broken on my side of our mattress which has never happened before. We can't quite remember whether we bought the bed just before or during Covid but do you think we can find the receipt? I've looked in the House Receipts file where we have receipts for most of our stuff and ransacked the house to no avail. We do know we bought it at the local furniture store where we've bought most of our stuff for the last 20 years so might try them tomorrow.

@Busy-Lizzie Is it possible to check back that far in your bank statements, sometimes companys will take that as prof of purchase.

Had a wonderful meet up with my Canadian relatives today. They have been quite impressed with the warm weather and have had a great stay, visiting all of our other relatives and some of my cousin's ex staff members. They return home on Friday. Luckily they fly out from London and not Manchester with its recent problems.

I have a request. I was wandering down the garden today, and came across two flowers that I couldn't identify. Flowers on shrubs, that I wasn't aware even existed here. If anyone can help please, it would be very much appreciated.
          Thank you.

Both have just appeared, poking through other shrubs. How they got missed, I don't know. But that's this garden. It keeps surprising!!

@RowlandsCastle the 1st one looks like a clematis, but those leaves don't, and the second one looks like a mallow or lavatera.

              Thank you @Busy-Lizzie
I'd imagine it's a bit late for a clematis, and it's almost like a brach - just a couple of inches across.
The second could well be a lavatera - I hadn't considered that (brain scrambled - which is probably why the hospital want me back in again).
              THANK YOU!!

@RowlandsCastle … first looks like a clematis to me … different types flower at different times.

The second pic looks like a lavatera to me.

@Little_Weed , thanks for that suggestion, at the moment I'm ploughing through all my gardening diaries in the hope that I may come across a mention of going bed shopping rather than gardening!

@Busy-Lizzie , smashing photos of the Lake District. We once stayed in an Edwardian shooting lodge (built for a stay by the Kaiser) right up on the fells behind Ullswater. Seven family members, plus two small children, no drinking water, electricity or phone and damp beds. The others loved it, I was distinctly unimpressed! It rained so hard we thought at one stage the road out via Ullswater was going to be impassable.

I agree, 1st. one looks like a Clematis, Group 2 and 3 flower at various times through early summer until late autumn.
2nd. A Mallow of some sort.

                        Thank you @Dovefromabove
With two of you in agreement about the clematis and lavatera, I have to assume you are probably correct. Both are poking through other shrubs. The clematis is showing on an archway, and will probably wind itself around the wooden diagonal pieces. The owner told us there were surprises to come.
The clematis is partly obscured by a conifer, that really needs to come out.

On the left hand side of the archway, about a foot from the ground, towards the rear, you can just see the flower.

                        Screenshot_20240626-223336.png
Where the shrubs all meet is where the lavatera is poking through.

Good morning everyone. Raining outside - deep joy! @RowlandsCastle, @Busy-Lizzie nailed the I.D.s of your plants and I agree with all the further comments too.
Off to see Bestie this morning. We had been hoping to visit Rufford Old Hall but the weather is a little off putting just now. We'll wait and see what develops.
