    Morning all.

It rained in the night. Son 1 and family are coming to stay next week. They live in NE France. The weather forecast hadn't been too bad, now there is some sort of rain every day. France will be warm and sunny next week. Hope son isn't disappointed.

Friends are coming to dinner tonight so I will prepare for that today.

Morning @Busy-Lizzie. Got a bit of 'Little Sir Echo' in your post. I do hope that the weather is kind for your son and family's visit. Enjoy meeting up with your friends tonight.
I'm back from seeing the Dental Hygienist. She was an absolute star and I didn't even need to have a local anaesthetic, so no dodgy dribblings! I am very disappointed with this persistent rain as I have got so much still to do in the garden. I feel I may still be saying that at Christmas!

Morning all. Just come back in from making a bodgy repair to the shed. The window frames are rotten and the glass had slipped in one and was in danger of crashing to the ground. As all the wood is rotten we've just tried to minimise the risk of the glass actually falling out. Very much a temporary solution and now need to find a carpenter who is not on holiday to make and fix some new frames...
        Always something isn't there?

Glad your visit to the dentist went ok LB. I was reading about below-gum-line cleaning and TBH it really set my teeth on edge. I floss my teeth religiously twice a day and use a good electric toothbrush and haven't needed to see a hygienist for about 15 years. Always ask if I should at check up and the dentist always says 'Nothing for her to do'.
Thank goodness - I really, really hate all that scraping. For me it's like nails on a blackboard.

Light rain again here today. I did manage to cut the grass when we got home but the garden is desperate for dead heading and cutting back as it's now nearly 4 weeks since I last did it. Not so desperate that I'm going to get soaked doing it though!

I've deleted the echo greeting @Ladybird4
Also changed Son 2 to Son 1

I floss after meals and brush my teeth2 or 3 times a day. Late OH was a dentist and Son 2 is a dentist. I've never needed a hygenist. I wasn't allowed sweets when I was a child, same for my children. I wonder if that makes a difference. Engineer Son 1 eats sweets in front of the TV and he has fillings. Dentist Son 2 doesn't eat sweets and he doesn't have fillings.

Now I'm in pain and fed up. I was doing the dreaded housework and I climbed onto a chair to remove a spider and its cobweb and my bad knee went crack. Hurts to hobble, friends to dinner and son 1 coming on Saturday. I need to walk when son comes or they will have to go on outings without me.:cry3:

Oh dear @Busy-Lizzie, not what you need just now. Have you got anything like Voltarol in the house? I find it very good for painful knees/shoulder/back pain although I'm not allowed to use it at the moment, either because I'm still on steroids or the blood thinners, can't remember which. Hope the pain subsides soon. Have you had a hip x-ray done? NHS were adamant OH had a bad knee for well over a year until he saw a private physio who told him to insist on a hip x-ray. Result, a badly worn hip. I just knew it was probably his hip because of the way he was walking.
We had really heavy rain overnight and everything is soaked outside. Now just drizzle in the wind and overcast. Not tempting me outside at all. Daughter's just gone home so I'm just waiting for the kitchen floor to dry (cleaners just been) before doing towels/bed linen etc.
I feel quite tired today and as it's a fasting day, going to take it easy.
Glad the dentist visit went ok, hope I never have to have that done, sounds quite painful and probably a bit unnecessary.
Hope you get the shed windows sorted out @Topbird.
            Have a good day everybody.

              A late good morning.

Oh dear @Busy-Lizzie, that does, indeed sound painful. I hope a little rest and perhaps the application of a little heat (wheat bag, perhaps), might ease the discomfort. I well understand the feeling of being fed up with niggly pain.

Hope your temporary repair holds for you @Topbird until you can find a carpenter.

Your dental hygienist sounds very good @Ladybird4. I imagine you were relieved not to need a local anaesthetic. I hate that sensation.

Ouch, @Busy-Lizzie - have you got a knee brace? That may help. I also find Biofreeze quite effective.
                Hope your repair holds, @Topbird
Take it easy today, @lizzie27 and good luck with your fast.

I'm decluttering in our old bedroom, aka the dumping ground. Suits that Hub will no longer wear, shirts that were in fashion when Adams was a lad, my summer dresses (when I do seem to remember summers) and shoes... don't get me started on those. Well, I suppose I must get started on them, as they seem to be breeding in the wardrobe.
I think a visit to the charity shop is on the cards.

I've put my knee brace on and cancelled our friends for dinner.

House painting man has just called round, raining so he can't paint the cottage. Says he just needs 2 dry days to finish it.

@Busy-Lizzie, I am so sorry to hear about your knee aggravation. Such a shame that you have had to cancel your friends visit tonight. How on earth will you manage to cope with the family visit? Am I right in remembering that your OH had a motorised scooter of some description? Maybe you could use that to get out and about with the family. It does seem as though you need to have that knee seen to as soon as possible.
@Penny_Forthem, you sound just like me. I am forever clearing out 'stuff' to the Charity Shops and it feels really cathartic after that has been done but then, can I find all the 'space' these clear outs produce? No!

@Blue arbour, when my Dentist of 30+ years decided to retire just after Covid, I was in a real panic trying to get accepted by another Dentist. I have always been a private patient and there was absolutely no chance I could find an NHS Dentist to take me on. Eventually, thanks to an interception by Jack's daughter I was accepted by the Dentist in the village. I am now getting back into my regular 6 monthly check ups. I do find it rather strange that I have to have 2 separate appointments - one for the general check up and the other for the Hygienist who does - what is in effect - the scale and polish. My last Dentist did the lot. My cynical side thinks that this is just a cinning ploy that allows them to charge me twice. One thing this Dentist has given me solid advice on, is the use of those little interdental brushes rather than floss with my teeth and I have 4 different sizes to get between the various sized gaps. Far more efficient than floss at removing debris.

@Topbird, I agree with you. Work in the garden - and all its necessary accoutrements - is a bit like a Forth Bridge project. I hope you find someone to get your shed windows sorted. You may remember that this was the year I was going to get rid of my shed? Well its still standing at the bottom of the garden. I will get round to it in time - when its drier!

Oh! @Busy-Lizzie you poor thing. I know where you are coming from with the pain. So frustrating and such a nuisance. Gosh I hope it's not your hip although a more straightforward operation that a knee replacement.

Careful with your fasting @lizzie27 I suppose you are allowed to drink water. Sometimes that "fills the gaps" !!

I have the same problem @Penny_Forthem but I always say - oh I might need that one day! And I usually do!!

The sun has come out and the temperature has gone up!!

@Tui34 , yes we are encouraged to hydrate well when fasting and as you say, water fills you up. I'm still drinking coffee and tea as usual with skimmed milk and a sweetener. Not sure I'll last out till 7pm today, my stomach's rumbling away like mad and I've already had an apple.

I'm currently sorting out my OH's collection of shirts - mostly longsleeved ones with double cuffs which he doesn't often wear these days. I rather think one or two of the older ones might quietly disappear!

It's been drizzling nearly all day and not very warm so rather depressing.

Pity about your cancelled dinner tonight @Busy-Lizzie, hope the knee brace helps.

Evening all. I have been afflicted with a head cold for a few days and now it's gone to my chest which makes selleping really difficult and so painting has been a bit of a strain but I'm getting there. The kitchen is definitely looking sunnier and brighter.

Sorry about your knee @Busy-Lizzie . Can you get an appointment with a specialist when you're back in France? Sounds like it needs doing asap.

We have a constant pile now on the spare bed of items that are headed to the charity shop. i've just added 3 black M&S t-shirts and a celiling lamp to the box of Belgian beer glasses and kitchen bits and bobs like a cherry stoner I've never used but OH thought I needed.

When Possum was little she wasn't allowed coca-cola and we always drank water with meals. She only had sweets when at somebody else's house and had an electric toothbrush very early on. She has no fillings. The two daughters of friends of ours who were not so fussy and had cokes every day and sweets on tap had to have 9 fillings each by the time they were 8 and 6. Their mum was horrified and changed the rules.

It's been wet and mis here today with a downpour at 4:30am and dribbles this morning but dry this pm. OH has been weeding our bank while I've been painting. I really feel the need to get outside and look after my pots nursery and start marking out the new beds where some of my treasures will go.

Hugs and commiserations to all with aches and pains or just too much rain.
