Thank you all, about my knee.

I'm sorry about your cold @Obelix-Vendée.

I've rested and taken painkillers, knee is better than it was. OH said he will cook dinner tonight and our friends, 3 of them, are coming after all. They said they would help and offered to make beds on Thursday to prepare for Son coming. So kind of them.

So sorry to hear about the head cold and its progression onto your chest @Obelix-Vendée. Hope you manage to shake it off soon. I remember shocking my science students by soaking teeth, obtained from my friendly dentist, in coca cola over night and how dreadful they looked afterwards. It was a salutary warning to them. I have been thwarted by the vile weather today as well and I'm beginning to go a bit stir crazy. I am at a meeting tomorrow night so I've made a lemon drizzle cake to take along.

@Busy-Lizzie I was pleased to read that some of your friends are still going to visit and are rallying round to assist in the preparations for your family's arrival. It is so nice to have friends you can count on.

@Busy-Lizzie that is good news about your friends. Lovely for you.

@Ladybird4 I stopped drinking coke when I accidentally spilt some on an old desk at the office and saw what it did to the varnish. Later, in Brussels, I was with a friend in a junk shop buying an elaborate metal wine rack on wheels which were stiff. The seller advised her to stand each wheel in little pots of coke to clear the rust and loosen them. It does have its uses, just not inside me.

Thanks for your concern. The cold is progressing as these things do. The worst should be over by tomorrow.

Good morning everybody. Whilst at the Dentist's yesterday her assistant was talking about a fan zone to watch the England v Netherlands match being opened tonight in town and she has bought a £5 ticket to go and enjoy all the enthusiasm and fun. I really hope that the weather is kind and that England make the win. I think there will be a very nervous time had by all but the shared experience will be wonderful!

Overcast here in Kent, but the sun is trying to shine.
I really would like to get out there to mow the lawn, but I'm not up to it at the moment. Just when we have visitors to lunch.
My wife can't prepare the food AND mow the lawn. Mind you, I could cut the strawberries, but I'm not trusted to do it precisely as she wants.
So that leaves me doing - well, nothing useful really, other than keeping out of the kitchen!!

Don't put yourself down @RowlandsCastle. Keeping OUT of the kitchen is extremely useful. I am afraid to say that yet again rain has stopped play here. Ho hum.

Very windy here this morning, but we do have sun!
2 bags of clothes went to the charity shop yesterday. I was ruthless! (there is more to go, yet).
Honestly, I really have taken my eye off the ball in the last 4 years.
However, the quest to find a useful home for some good, clean duvets was less successful. Charity shops don't want them, animal rescues won't take them, a share shop that organises supplies for refugees, both here and overseas, said they'll only accept new ones. Next stop is the Sally army. I know Dunelm will take them, bagged, but it's a long way for me to go.
All this talk of dentists reminds me I have an appointment next month. Last time, he showed me my teeth on a screen in front of me. It was frightening! Yes, I have all my own teeth, but my childhood dentist was, I swear, a sadist, who filled my teeth whether they needed it or not. As another dentist said, my teeth are in excellent condition, but the fillings are suffering metal fatigue.
Hope your cold disappears soon @Obelix-Vendée

                      Hello everyone,

The weather doesn’t know what to do today, so we’ve had wet spells and dry spells. However, much better than yesterday, when it rained most of the day and even treated us to thunder and lightning at tea time.

Your friends sound very kind and thoughtful @Busy-Lizzie, so kind of them to help with meal prep and visitor prep. I hope your knee soon feels better. My back is still reminding me it’s not completely better, but today it feels a teeny bit more comfortable. It’s been 3 weeks since I over reached for the hanging basket, so it’s taking its time to heal, but I’ll get there. One thing I’ve learned - don’t over reach, use the steps .

I agree about sadist dentists @Penny_Forthem. I had one when I was a small girl. He wasn’t averse to putting in fillings whether needed or not and pulling out baby teeth. My face used to look as if I’d done around with Tyson. My mum, bless her, decided enough was enough, and found another practise to take me to, which was much better. (That was the time when it was easy to change, not so now, of course).

I hope your cold doesn’t linger too long @Obelix-Vendée .

                        Afternoon folks,
very pleased that I've lost over 2lbs this morning so worth all the pain!
The weather's been kind as well, breezy but we do have intermittant sunshine so the washing's on the line and I must get out to do some gardening.
Hope you all enjoyed the dinner last night @Busy-Lizzie and that the knee is not too painful this morning.
Getting rid of old duvets is very difficult @Penny_Forthem . I ended up cutting mine up last year, stapling pieces into black bin bags which I then tied round the 3 compost bins, It was an experiment to see if it kept the heat in through the winter and did work quite well. They were too decrepit to be kept so to the tip they went.

I rather think most NHS dentists when we were children were of the same ilk, I've got a mouthful of mercury fillings which my lovely (private) dentist is replacing when necessary with white fillings - at a price of course! My teeth are still quite crooked though and I made him laugh when we discussed having more crowns done about the benefit/cost analysis at my age!
@Blue arbour , hope the back ache goes away soon.
@RowlandsCastle , just enjoy the lunch and be thankful you didn't have to do anything. I'm sure you do your fair share when you are able to. I shall have a similar lawn cutting dilemma when OH goes in soon for his hip op. I won't be able to do it (can't manage the big lawnmower) so we'll be doing NoMow May in August!
