Good afternoon/early evening.

We’ve had beautiful weather here today, pleasantly warm and sunny.

My back feels better () today, the first day without any twinges of pain for almost 5 weeks. I even managed my Pilates class today, just doing what I felt I could safely do and leaving out the rest. I think it has helped.

Sadly, @Ladybird, even if you hand the tablets back unopened, they won’t reuse them. So much waste.

So far, I’ve had 5 ripe tomatoes, there are a few green ones and lots of blossom - not sure if the blossom will develop into tomatoes or not, but I imagine it will. I think a lot of green chutney may be on the cards later.

Waste annoys me.
Our breakfast at the hotel was paid for.
I didn't pile my plate, but had 2 rashers of bacon, a hash brown and scrambled eggs. I only ate a mouthful of eggs. I felt very guilty.
All prescriptions in Wales are free. Lots of wastage.
In llanberis, I asked a postman if he knew an address. Oh, he said, you want to know how to pronounce it.
No, I said, I can pronounce it, but where is it!

 

@Blue arbour. I did know that they wouldn't re-use the tablets and I agree it is a sad situation. I was imagining that scenario in many homes and, like @Penny_Forthem, I get angry at the waste. I am glad to read that your back is a lot easier.

In France and Belgium we are encouraged to return unusued, unopened medicines to pharmacies. Some meds are free and some are not and some are payable but subsidised by the Mutuelle who refund some or all of the payment. Compliacted, but it's all computerised and works.

@Ladybird4 I have thought for a long time now that if history in schools was taught as a "who did what with or to whom gossip" it would stick in brains a lot more easily. I love history but had a teacher for A levels who could make it exceptionally tedious.

Really enjoyed last night's Sewing Bee and especially the result! That Balenciaga inspired dress was fiendish but very flattering to many figures and the Chanel challenge was great. I have a whole box of OH's old silk ties from when he wore them to work .......... I have 2 sewing machines - one is a 6kg Brother I take to and from patchwork and the other is a serious Bernina. Both do a variety of buttonholes and the Bernina remembers the first one so I can do a series of identical ones on a garment.

There's a website called Sewdiect that sells a wide range of patterns and holds 50% off sales thru the year. If you sign up for their email newsletter they also send you a report on each week's Sewing Bee with "how to" tips and pattern suggestions - in case anyone's interested. No spoliers either.

Hot here at last so a quiet day - weekly SM raid while the older car had her wheels tracked and re-aligned - followed by a sort out in my pantry so I could do another shopping list for a raid on the Vietnamese shop tomorrow. Normal SMs not good on Asian condiments and ingredients.

I hope your niece has a safe journey @Tui34 and anyone else travelling. Good health to those facing ops or treatments and recovering from injuries.

Thursday. 3:14PM---Thursday. Busy morning, took SUV for its timed oil change and check up under warranty. No issues. Next week its scheduled for its yearly inspection. So here is the deal, so you all understand this nuttiness. We bought the SUV in Maryland, where it goes to get its scheduled check-ups. But, we live in the state of PA where its registered---because we live here. So it has to get inspected in PA. The state of Maryland is about a 45 min. drive from my house, so really not a big deal.

We have had two days of storms, high winds etc. the electric finally came on this morning at 3AM, was out for 2 1/2 days. Thank goodness for our whole house generator. But still there was no internet or TV . Fun. I just puttered about inside.

Thanks ladies for your support regarding my rant. You'd think a "guy" who knows his wife worked with the mentally ill for years would not try me. And managed tons of staff. LOL.

So right now the focus is getting the car ready for the trip to Louiseville, KY.

So yesterday, in the middle of all the storms, I actually went to this food market, about a 30 min drive, never been, it was so large---and lets say huge. Heard about it. Very overwhelming. Thank goodness my brain holds prices well, in general not a really good place for deals, some items were. Some on sale. But got some interesting things. Seems they carry almost every thing. I did not get a chance to explore all the frozen case items. I think I did get down every aisle.

My hair cut went well. Two inches off. Told her I'd see her mid-November.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get some garden stuff done. Take care all.

 

Ladybird, I agree with you re the little black dress. Gorgeous, but I have always had a weakness for dresses and lingerie made on the bias. It is the drape and fit.
I have handed back so many packets of tablets at my surgery. However, I have to open the bags on collection whilst still inside the building or they will not take them.

I originally tried to get a Drs app. because I thought I had a chest infection or pleurisy and was having problems breathing. Initially I was offered a phone consultation in 2/3 weeks time because they were busy and it was a Bank Holiday week-end. I said that wasn't good enough so the lady offered to put it down as urgent. She also said as I had been having problems with breathlessness for several weeks it wouldn't hurt to wait a few days! After another 3 days I was really struggling so tried 111, they said I needed to speak to a GP, one called me back very quickly and said she would refer me to my GP., the next day I tried 999, same thing, a GP would refer me to my GP. by this time I can barely move. The following day I had a call from a local surgery offering me an app. later that day, Bank Holiday Friday, at a surgery in the middle of town. I drove myself there and saw a lovely trainee Dr. who informed me he thought I was having a heart attack. He would not let me drive home and wait for my daughter to take me to hospital. He called for an ambulance to collect me from the surgery, called the hospital to book me in and called my daughter to come to the surgery. An ambulance arrived within 20 mins and after stabilising me took me to hospital. They couldn't find any evidence of a heart attack but eventually a scan showed I have an aortic aneurism which because of its location is inoperable.
It is very common for women to have a heart attack and not know anything about it, no chest pains etc. They call it the Silent Killer.
I have been told by a cardiac nurse that the aneurism could rupture at any time, no warning, I would know nothing, curtains, or I could live for another 5-10 years.
I count myself lucky that I have longevity in my genes, I have never smoked, drink only occasionally, eaten a varied healthy diet and been comparatively active all my life. It is standing me in good stead now.
Keep taking the tablets and smile.

 

PS @Ladybird4 I have 3 of those rotary cutters but only use them for patchwork and paper. You'd need a very large and therefore very expensive cutting mat to use one for cutting out clothes! They need to be stored flat too. I'm happy with my sewing scissors or shears and the dining table for cutting out clothes and doing the pattern notches.

 

That must have been a very frightening episode @Goldenlily26, I'm glad you're still with us.
Personally I think I'd rather a quick fatal heart attack than a long drawn out deterioration like my poor brother.
That's an appalling way to treat somebody with a suspected heart attack though. I hope you made an official complaint.
As you say, keep taking the tablets! Well, some of them at any rate.

Minus 6.5c this morning. We are going to town shortly, so the car heater will get a bit of exercise on the drive.

Good morning all. I finished watering front garden, and now is time for cup of tea. Nothing changes regarding weather, we are still roasting. It's only slightly possibility for rain tomorrow afternoon. My sister will return to Germany tonight, and I'll drive her to airport. She has flight at 11pm. She has two more week for holiday, so she might come back in September. I already place order for seed for next year. It might look to early, but professional seeds (especially smaller packages) are quickly sold out.

 

A very good morning @Ante1 and everyone and g'day to @PatE - I smiled thinking about your car heater getting some exercise! It is oppressively warm here - feels 'thundery'.
@Obelix-Vendée thank you so much for all that useful information about Sewdirect. I have recently replaced my extremely old Brother sewing machine with another Brother.
@redstar, do you think that you will go to this food market again?
@Goldenlily26 I was appalled and enraged by the treatment you received during that scary time. I find it impossible to get in touch with my own Doctor - thank goodness this is never a frequent or necessary occasion. If I have cause to ring my surgery, I get a recorded message asking me to ring 111 or 999. Seize the day @Goldenlily26 and enjoy every second.
@lizzie27, I can agree with you completely as I lost my youngest brother in similar circumstances almost 2 years ago now.

Morning all.

We went, with Son and family, to Houghton Hall, Norfolk, yesterday. We looked inside the very grand house, beautiful but I wouldn't like to live there. I like cosy and homely.

Then we walked around the huge, beautiful walled garden. I was wearing a dress and my knee brace and limping a bit. The lady at the entrance offered me an electric buggy, which I was very glad of.

The garden is divided into "garden rooms", roses garden, potager, orchard, formal parterres whith a pond, herbaceous borders etc.

After that we went to a couple of beaches to look at the sea.
