Couple years ago there was a ground hive in the same spot, did not notice, there I am weeding and fussing with plants, so one flew up and stung my thigh. (had shorts on). Not a long lasting sting, but still a hot poker sting. Thank God I have no allergies to anything. Yes, they are smallish, black and yellow stripes. Not to be confused with the typical Bumble Bee who won't hurt a soul, they also ground hive, but I do give them respect and leave them alone, can get near and weed, nothing happens.

They say Wine helps with Cholesterol levels, as I cut back in June. The numbers from last year to this year are the same. So my Cholesterol levels have nothing to do with wine or without wine. Just my little experiment.

@Penny_Forthem I have always undesrtood that French tarragon produces seed once in a blue moon and is therefore propagated from root cuuttings. The Russian stuff has a very inferior flavour.

i have made pesto this evening. The recipe said to start with 80g of basil leaves. By the time I stripped the leaves from the stems I picked in the PT I had half a kilo of fresh leaves........ 6 and a half jars later we're having salmon fillets with a pesto crust for dinner.

Morning all. What was your opinion on the Olympic opening ceremony?
Shame about the weather. Plus I had to turn off the TV because of the flashing lights.

A very good morning one and all. Oh my but I thoroughly enjoyed the opening ceremony last night - didn't think I would be able to stay awake but I'm so pleased I did.
@Obelix-Vendée, thank you for the fascinating information about your last house. It made such an interesting read. If you have any pesto going spare you could send some over here - love it!

Good morning @RowlandsCastle you sneaked in there. Well you will have read my thoughts about the open ceremony. I thought the Beeb were very good in there oft repeated alerts about the strobe lighting. I felt so sorry for everyone as the rain bucketed down but as I have had weeks -on and off - of that here, I was happy I wasn't the only one. I was worried about the piano though!

                  Bonjour de la belle France!!

I hope everyone enjoyed the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Lovely to see all the young people getting along. Hope it's not too hot for the Southern Hemisphere contingent.

My surgeon's secretary rang as there was a cancellation for an appointment to which, of course I said 'Yes!' So I am scheduled for a hip operation early September. My lovely friend from Montpellier has put in for his holidays and will be on hand to look after Fizz, my garden and me! When you are alone - it is a weight off your shoulders. I can prepare. The selling of my house and moving will be "on standby" until at least October - if not pre-Christmas. Everything in good time - do not stress - do not panic! First things first. Surgeon will do my knee after Christmas. I'll be good to go in the spring!!

Very tired this week after the energy of the past weekend - the heat, the food, the vibration of younger people. Batteries charged though!!

I hope everyone has a pleasant weekend and will enjoy the Olympics. (I love the diving, gymnastics, athletics..... well nearly everything)!

Good morning @Tui34. That is excellent news about your hip op and great that you have a lovely friend to help out. I am a total Olympic games devotee and will be very much a couch potato. I love the badminton, which I played as well as squash but I will soak up everything. Looking forward to the ongoing Rugby Sevens.

I took Rob for a very sedate amble around the Village Green then came home and planted out some kale plants. Hopefully I put enough slug pellets around them to protect them from the zillions of slugs and snails there seem to be around. Also did a very short spell of patio weeding. My runner beans are a laugh, they are now just a bunch of stalks so doubt there will not be a crop from them. At least the tomato plants in the greenhouse are still visible. I have 1 tomato set, it is the size of a pea at the moment so I should at least have one to try.
The cucumber plants both have tiny cucumbers forming but the plants are only a few inches tall so I am not sure what is going to happen with them.
My son in Canada phoned and said they had cancelled a camping trip as the smoke from the wild fires at Jasper had reached them so felt it was a bit risky to leave the house at the moment. The river valley where they live, in the foothills of the Rockies, is tinder dry and there are so many Jack Pines it would very easily catch fire. Worrying.

Hello all, We dipped in and out of the opening ceremony, shame about the rain.
Cloudy and humid today so trying to get some things done in the garden before the heat coming for next week when it will be indoor activities only!
Glad to see you are going to have your hip done @Tui34 and someone to look after you.

It is grey and damp here but just wet air, not rain or even proper drizzle. What I call drismal.

I lasted less than 5 minutes with the ceremony and OH just over 10 and his capacity to watch cr*p is legendary. It all looked messy and ill-conceived but then I don't get French theatre and film either - brains on different wave lengths.

Excellent news about your hip @Tui34 and plenty of time for that to heal before the knee is done. I'll send you a PM about the magic French knee bender machine you can hire.

Fingers crossed for you, Robbie and your son @Goldenlily26 - more than anyone needs to worry about so have a hug too.

I hope the drive goes well @Busy-Lizzie and no huge hold ups.

I'm going to take some rose cuttings today. The ones I took 2 summers ago didn't all take but the ones that did have turned out to be beautiful, healthy and sturdy with better leaves and flowers than their parents on rootstocks. Just need a new bed to plant them in.......
