Good morning. Set to be another hot one today but "only" 28C tho it will feel hotter. SM raid today and then watering and maybe some pottering depending on how hot it really feels. It should be cooler tomorrow and only reach the high 20s for most of next week but no rain.

Our house is stone too @Busy-Lizzie with very thick walls. Our bedroom is downstairs and faces east so the shutters are down all day and that keeps it cool. Upstairs is much warmer despite keeping shutters down and windows closed.

@Ladybird4 our little huntress has a special tone of voice when she brings home her catches. She's a very vocal girlie whereas Cosmos only speaks when he's on the way to the vet.

@floralies I should think drizzle would feel lovely after the last few days.

    A peaceful day to everyone.

It's overcast now and feels so much cooler. Think I might venture out to do some gardening.

        Good morning all!

It's a lovely summer's day here - no drizzle, not cooler and expecting a high of 39°C this arvo!!!
        Inside again!!

@Busy-Lizzie If your upstairs is not insulated, no point in having air conditioning. Mobile or not. Best move the bedding downstairs!! You must be freezing in the winter and all the energy is going out the roof!

Nothing to report here so far. I hope everyone is well and safe.

          Good afternoon,
After a wet start to the day, the sun is now out again and it’s warming up. The rain was very heavy, but I didn’t hear any thunder, which had been in the forecast. The plants all look a lot happier after their good soaking.
SM shop this afternoon, then feet up to enjoy this sunshine.

My chair has arrived. OH my!

We had 2 polite young lads (early teens) call at the house this morning and offer to wash the car. I asked it were for a good cause - oh yes, one said, we want to earn some money. How much will you charge?, I asked.
            £12 came the reply.

            a) I didn't have £12
            b) I didn't want to supervise them and wasn't sure if the £12 included their materials or mine
            c) I thought, they're uninsured, what if something goes wrong?

I declined, but wished them well. Quite sad to think like that.

              Afternoon ladies & gentlemen,

              Goodbye Beltane, hello Lunasa. :)

I hope the portable air conditioner becomes quieter and gives you a better sleep tonight @Busy-Lizzie .

That is a beautiful viola you got @Ladybird4 . I hope it thrives for you.

Congratulations on your weight loss @lizzie27 . I'm sure one cream tea won't be nearly enough to undo all your good work. I hope your OH's recovery continues to go well.

I like your dog very much @Penny_Forthem . Thank-you for sharing that lovely photo.

Hope the weather cools down for you soon @Obelix-Vendée & @Tui34 .

Woke up at a rather tiresome 5am, which seems to be the new normal for me this year. Hung out the washing and gave my Mother's fence a liberal coat of wood preservative. A high of 23C today and very humid, happily the weather is forecast to break tonight or tomorrow.

Best wishes to you all folks.

Afternoon all, we had rain (don't think it was much) during the night but it did cool it down somewhat. Cloudier now than yesterday so again a bit cooler but still too hot and muggy for me to do much outside.
I was very pleased when NDN's gardener turned up early unexpectedly and attacked our overgrown front hedge, she worked like a Trojan and it looks so much better. She also strimmed the front verge once it was revealed so I paid her nearly double her normal hourly rate. I believe in paying a good rate for a good job well done. It was still cheaper than the last lot. I wonder why women seem to undervalue their skills/time.

Enjoy your new chair @Penny_Forthem .

Good that the weather stayed dry enough to do the fence coating @Badly_Maintained . I, on the other hand do need it to rain - and hard, before I can start on my list of jobs.

Hope the weather conditions aren't too trying for those on the Continent.

Our roof was already insulated @Busy-Lizzie but not enough for the new norms but we were able to get another layer installed in that 1€ government scheme. Went to Leclerc this morning for our weekly raid and they had tall fans on sale and almost silent.

OH and I are hiding now till at least 6pm. Possum wants a Lugnasadh theme for dinner tonight @Badly_Maintained so I've made some sunflower seed bread and there will be broccoli and sweetcorn.

My Yellow wax bells are starting their opening as always to herald August. Have two large ones. Hummingbirds love them. Their flowers keep coming all the way to end of September giving the hummers food to start their journey south. Have a grand day all. yellow wax bell.jpg

Maybe there is insulation @Tui34, @floralies and @Obelix-Vendée as we rarely have the heating on in the bedroom in winter. The woodburning oven sends heat upstairs in winter. Could be that it has just been exceptionally hot.

I managed 3 hours gardening this morning. Much cooler and cloudy but not muggy.

Good afternoon everyone, I have only skimmed back so apologies if I have missed anything significant. We gave in a got a portable air con unit in the last hot spell. In spite of roof and cavity wall insulation, blackout roller blind and curtains our bedroom gets uncomfortably hot as it faces south. We can't sleep with the unit on or with open windows so we get the room as chilled as possible then turn off. Unfortunately it can warm up again during the night, sometimes we resort to opening up for 10 minutes or so in the early hours, just to get some cool air circulation.
Give us an hour to get the wash in, then send any rain you can spare..:please:

It's been muggy all day so far. The expected rain and thunderstorms didn't materialise. We need the rain to fill the water butts.
There again, I can hear the farmer harvesting the corn in the fields at the end of the road, and he definitely WON'T want it to rain right now!!

@Penny_Forthem , I would have no issue with two young guys washing my car. not sure what the money conversion is you said. Just have it locked, and I'd move it over on the lawn so the hose would reach better, and tell them, have at it.

Sometime in the winter after a good snow storm I get a guy coming around with a shovel, we agree to an amount and he goes at it. shoveling the long driveway, sidewalks and back deck. Last time I paid him $50.00 to do it all. Our driveway is about 100 paces long.

Just heard a "male" person, posing as the third type, in the womens boxing match, clobbered the poor girl, broke her nose and something about her ear. SMH. It was not allowed in "regular competitions because other places rule against it, but the Olympics don't have that rule. SMH. so sad.
