I’ve just cleaned the downstairs windows - not a five star job but ok. We actually have all patio style doors at the back so that’s a lot of glass! I gave up on having a window cleaner years ago as it was so expensive. I often work out how many hours/days/weeks I need to work to afford something and see if that’s reasonable then factor in value, skill, faff and equipment to make my conclusion.

I take turmeric daily - I bought a load back the last time I was in India and have it sprinkled on my toast and Marmite every morning @Obelix-Vendée But it's not arthritis. There's no more cartilage in my hip and knee. My hands are nicely arthritic though. Starting to have trouble unscrewing a lid - and I only buy wine that has a cork!!!

That's a bit of a scare @lizzie27 Glad your sister is OK. But what was it? I'm pleased to hear that your OH is feeling better after nearly 2 weeks of convalescence after his hip operation. Mine is due soon, and I don't want to be too handicapped for a couple of months. And yes, I will take things easy. My friendly friend has put in 2 weeks holiday to look after me and I have nice neighbours whom I can call on, if needs be.

I feel like some tomato and cheese on toast for my tea tonight. I couldn't think of what to have and skip around meals a bit which isn't good.

No fires here @redstar - and at the moment no barbecues either. Unless gas, I suppose. (which I think is cheating!)

Crikey, I can't keep up with you lot!
I really should look into taking turmeric. I am loathe to take the paracetamol because it really doesn't seem to work. But then again, if I took it regularly, would it?
As I have been on the IF way of life with @Obelix-Vendée and @lizzie27 for way more than a month now, I have lost 7lbs (slow going). I dared do my BMI today; 26.8. I am OK with this. Thanks to them for support.
Nowt to pick in the garden today, except fault with the b***y weeds.

@Tui34 to work best the turmeric needs to be mixed with black pepper to help absorption. This link might help you find other helpful supplements. Glucosamine is good - Supplement and Herb Guide for Arthritis Symptoms | Arthritis Foundation

@Penny_Forthem Well done. You must be feeling loads better for it.

@lizzie27 that sounds like a worry for you and your sister. Have they any idea what's going on?

OH has come back from golf very pleased with himself. He's played his best round ever in his whole life today. Can we celebrate with some fizz?

Nothing to pick for dinner tonight here either. Not the weather for Swiss chard or beets or Savoy or pointy cabbages and I don't want any potatoes as we have sweet potato gratin to finish. Our BBQ is charcoal @Tui34 and I think we're allowed to use it but rarely do as it's such a faff. Quicker to heat up the oven or grill and I know stuff will be cooked properly and not just kizened on the outside.

It is, at last, cool enough to feel comfy and not be melting. Have a lovely evening everyone and Bon appétit.

Forgot to say @AuntyRach I agree about windows. We have 16 doors and windows downstairs and 10 windows upstairs. That's a lot of glass! Fortunately they all open inwards so are easy enough to clean when I finally get around to it.

@Obelix-Vendée, I have toyed with the idea of taking turmeric and now you have galvanised me into action. I have found some high strength with black pepper so I'll give it a go. Like you, we are not allowed fires in our area, it is a designated smokeless zone.
@lizzie I was pleased to hear that your OH is recovering slowly but oh what a huge shock you and the family have had with your sister's episode. Have they any idea at all as to the cause?
I cleaned one window the other day because a bird (must have been the size of an ostrich) had decided to christen it - as only birds know how. It did make me realise that I'll have to do them all now. Thank goodness I haven't as many windows as @Obelix-Vendée!

I am also starting a war on ivy. I discovered some tendrils growing up the front of my cottage from under the kitchen window. When I tried to pull it off I could not move it, the cottage is built of undressed granite stone and the ivy roots are very firmly attached to the rough surface. I have tried cutting through the ivy stems and am going to spray it with weedkiller with some washing up liquid to help break down the surface tension of the ivy leaves hopefully to aid absorption.
I made some biscuits using up a tin of condensed milk I open by mistake for evaporated milk. Really nice flavour, few ingredients, quick and easy to make and cook.

                          Good morning all.

Sunny here, 18C. I slept well. The nights are now cooler. It was so hard to sleep last week.

@Tui34 if your cartilage is worn away then it is arthritis, osteoarthritis, arthrose in French.

I hope your sister is OK, @lizzie27, what a worry for you. Glad they didn't find anything.

We enjoying garden visiting yesterday. The first had a pretty courtyard but the main garden was a bit dull so she had invited arts and crafts people to have stalls. I bought some honey. They sold savouries as well as the usual cakes. We had quiche then cheesecake for lunch.

The other garden belonged to a very big old stone country house. The garden was huge but mostly parkland with 3 lakes. We had tea, sandwiches and walnut cake there.

Good morning @Busy-Lizzie. It sounds as though you had a gastronomic tour as well as your garden visit. As I said yesterday, the money raised is going to an excellent cause and another plus point is that you didn't need to cook!

                              Good morning all!

Beautiful day again - only 32°C expected this afternoon!! Holy moly!!

@Obelix-Vendée The last lot of turmeric is mixed with pepper as it is really spicy hot!! At first I thought I had bought the wrong thing and it has chilly mixed, but realise it is black pepper. I have been taking turmeric for 7 years now - I guess it helps.

Thank you for that information @Busy-Lizzie I didn't know that. Anyway, the turmeric over the last few years may have slowed down the wearing away process. Who knows. I like it - but this batch is very hot!!

May your day be merry and bright folks!!

Lovely day here too. Max temp forecast is 24°C, with a good sea breeze. Ideal for drying clothes, sailing, and getting sunburnt without realising it.
