Well it looks as though hedge cutting is to be delayed as Nature has decided that - even though I think I have - I have not had enough rain yet, so I am getting some more.

Morning all, looks like our forecast may be for drizzle all day which will curtail the gardening I'd planned. However that will give me the opportunity of finally catching up with the ironing which has been sadly neglected of late.

We do need a lot of rain here, when I was digging last Tuesday, the ground was bone dry.

I'm afraid I much prefer paper books to reading online though I'm sure that has it's own advantages.

          Enjoy your early start @Tui34.

Do hope the hedgehog has had her babies @Liriodendron, it will be such fun to see them on your camera.

          Have a good day everyone.

I'd put money on a nest of hoglets @Liriodendron .

Fingers crossed all goes well. My local hedgehog rescue is overwhelmed with hoglets at the moment, some with and some without their Mum.

Well I ventured out to retrieve the emptied bin and it was STILL drizzling! I retreated to the greenhouse to do some watering and look what I found:
              Mini Cuke.jpg
I reckon it must have eaten all the food I watered the pot with before it could get to the teenie specimens it shared the parent plant with.
It is about 10cm (4 inches in old money) long. It is ferociously prickly and eating it would be like eating one of my cacti. I was hoping for the lovely, smooth skinned variety you get in the SM. So disappointing. Still I suppose I can peel it. I most definitely will not be growing these again next year.

                A late good morning,

It’s still dry here, but a lot cloudier than earlier and breezy with it. We might have rain this afternoon.

I think you might have hoglets under your shed @Liriodendron. I hope you’ll see the babies in the next week or so.

Belated birthday greetings to you @redstar. I hope you enjoyed your meal (and found the earrings you wanted to wear).

The unrest has been very unpleasant, but last night there were a lot of peaceful counter protests, all over the country, with a lot more people participating, which I hope will be given more focus. I think those of us who wish for peaceful coexistence far out number those who don’t, but that doesn’t tend to make headline news, does it?

I think this year has been very disappointing for most vegetable growing @Ladybird4.

Busy day so far starting with my 6 monthly eye check-up. All is well after having laser treatment for high pressure in the eyeball. Next appointment 9 months. When first diagnosed I asked what casues it. Smoking - no; diabetes - no; obesity - no. Bad luck then. Humph!

Then a bit of grammar correction for Possum who's preparing English language pubicity for Bénéteau at the Cannes boat show...and finally the weekly shop which included more paint for the gates. They only have spray cans here but that's fine for the solid parts and the letterbox.

More mud pies re-potting for me this pm. I'm leaving on my road trip on Tuesday so need to crack on. I don't like wearing gloves unless dealing with a very prickly cutomer or nettles so my nails will be glad of a holiday.

@Ladybird4 I keep a pan scrub just for veggies like that and it works well for removing the prickly bits on our cucumbers.

@Blue arbour yes, it was heratening to see those positive counter portest being reported. They also said, that of those prosecuted so far, a significant majority already had records for violence.

@Liriodendron you could try putting out bowls of cat food for your mama hog. Not milk tho as that will cause diarrhoea and dehydrate her.

Thursday . Nice and chilly. Lots of rain.
Dinner last night was lovely. New restaurant for us. Had some out of the ordinary type of offerings. Sadly they changed the item I wanted to pasta with the lobster. So I got a lamb sausage veggie thing, it was good. The atmosphere nice, not a big place. They have a French bakery attached, so we took home some goodies.

Yes, as far as the Turmeric it has to be mixed with black pepper, for some reason the pepper carries the turmeric into your system better than without it. I take it daily.

Keeping some tabs on my neighbor. He said he was so sad to leave her there. He has been married to her for 40 years. Three kids and grandchildren. The place she is at is close, so I will go visit. Have known her for 37 years, so her mind should have the LTM still there regarding me, and I know enough past stories that I can get her to talk about them when I visit. Recall one of my past clients, the wife said to me after she admitted her husband, "this is not what was planned". Sadly no one has a crystal ball. Yes it is a horrid disease.

Later I should get out and pull some weeds, its just grassy stuff, noting major. Wet soil will make it so easy.

I hope you enjoyed all the goodies too @redstar. If all else fails with visits to your neighbour, try playing some music from your shared past but also your youth. It triggers all sorts of happy memories and chat.

                        Hello all.

Didn't sleep so well, had a hot flush, then overslept.

I hope you get to see hoglets, @Liriodendron. Exciting.

I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday meal @redstar, shame they were out of lobster though.

I weeded the shrub bed this morning so now all the beds are weeded in the flower garden, think that's 10. Veg garden next, done a bit of it.

Got hot, sunny day, so showered, lunched, been watching Olympics.

What would you all have done, or what do you think of this situation.

Last night at dinner, I did order a martini. So just sipping at it. At one point I am on my cell posting food pics. And suddenly a glass crashing noise. I looked to my surprise the martini glass fell on the floor. I know I did not put it on the edge, probably over at least 5 inches from the edge. They came to clean it up. I said guess you have ghosts here. But husband said probably the table was a tiny bit unlevel and condensation under the glass caused it to move to the edge and fall. I like the ghost thing better. But, -----and here is the thing.-----They did not offer to simply replace the drink. We did buy another, and was billed for two. We moved on and finished the meal. Given restaurants mark up for drinks is 400%. Would not it have been gracious for them to simply replace it free, given it was either a ghost or unlevel table.

It would have been gracious of them @redstar. I don't know what they usually do in the USA but it would also have been wise to them to replace it free as they may have lost a customer or lost a good review.

I'd love to feed the hedgehog, @Obelix-Vendée , but we see feral cats and rats around, and I don't think I could construct a hedgehog feeder which would keep out rats.

Hedgehog behaviour changed last night. We're used to it going out around 8.30pm and coming back at about 5.15am, but last night it was out at 6.30pm and back soon after 10pm.
