Hello @Victoria - thank you so much for your welcome to us refugees from GW! It's sunny here in western Ireland today, but still too soggy out for weeding...

Actually, I hadn't posted on the GW equivalent of this thread for some time, but thought I'd pop in to say "Hi!" to everyone - and to pass on to @Ladybird4 my grandmother's method for making Victoria sandwich, which caters for different sizes of egg: you weigh the number of eggs you wish to use, and then use that weight of butter, sugar and SR flour. Works every time.

Thats a great traditional technique @Liriodendron :) and it's lovely to see you .... the only thing to watch out for when using double yolk eggs is that the proportion of white to yolk will be a bit less, and the resulting batter can therefore be a bit heavier which is why I've always used a dash of milk with double-yolkers to lighten it just a bit.

@redstar Sorry to hear that your Brother-in-law drove his car over your crocuses. That was really not a nice thing to do at all.
Thank-you @Victoria for your warm and very kind welcome.
@Ladybird4 Enjoy your trip to the nursery.
It is very good to hear that your Son is continuing to recover @Dovefromabove I hope better times lie ahead for you and all your loved ones.
Sorry for the loss of your Westie @CatDouch In a way your Westie will still be you, as he will always live in your memory.

The weather forecast has come true - this is the first dry day all week. Hung the washing out early. Have a safe and happy day everyone! :)

Morning all! Just found this thread and have read back a bit. So sad to lose a much loved cat @CatDouch.
Sun is shining but as those who already know me - I'll be tied to my laptop today working on yet another funding bid for the Festival I am helping to organise.
Have fun pricking out @Punkdoc - it doesn't look as if I'll even be sowing any seeds this year.

Hello @Dordogne Damsel, I was Busy-Lizzie. I didn't know if you'd seen the upheaval, I posted on Facebook under your lovely romantic photo to let you know.

I'm sorry @CatDouch about your little friend. I missed your post above, and everyone else's. Been getting rather confused with all the posts and changes. Little White Pet is a lovely choice.

A late good morning to all,
So sorry to read about your Westie @CatDouch. I don’t have any pets myself, but know plenty of people who do and understand how important a part of the family they are.
That’s a useful tip about double yolkers @Dovefromabove. I don’t often get them these days but when I worked, a colleague used to bring in fresh eggs for sale and many of those were double yolkers.
It’s looking very dull outside, but milder than of late. Still dry, but not sure for how long. I could really do with getting some tidying done in the garden, but it’s so very soggy. On the plus side, all the spring flowers are looking gorgeous, and the magnolia blossom is beginning to open up.

It all comes down to volume. The best way to figure it out is to use a measuring cup. Crack a single yolker into it and note the volume, then the double and you'll see if the double has much more volume or just a smidge. The most I've ever had one over here amount to is the equivalent of 1 1/2 but your's may be larger.

                          Good day
It is mild again today. 40f 4c and cloudy.

@CatDouch I am sorry to hear about the loss in your family. I used to have cats and loved them and then after the last old fellow passed, I found out that all of my sinus problems, etc were because I was allergic to their fur :rolleyespink: I miss them and always enjoy an opportunity to pet any I see. I used to grow catnip just to attract them into my back yard for a visit but our stupid town passed a bylaw years ago that they cannot wander any more. Now these same silly people are alarmed at the rise in the rodent population - duh?!

I've got a slouchy day of puttering ahead of me. I feel a bit aimless because it isn't nice enough to work outside and so far, I am not in the mood for cleaning my loos and things. :noidea:

Have a lovely day all and cheers :coffee:

Out of interest @CanadianLori , how do your town council implement that law? Are all cats meant to be kept indoors because their instinct is to wander, isn’t it? Like you say, a stupid thing to do and I’m puzzling how they manage it.

Hello there Liriodendron. Thank you so much for that tip about the cake making. It did trigger a memory as I have a feeling my Grandmother made her cakes like that. Next coffee morning I will use your suggestion. Thank you once again.
