      Good morning all.

Thank you, @Blue arbour - and hello and thanks to @LG_ - great to "see" you too!

I too have an eyewateringly pink phlox and would love a white one. But the pink version was a gift from a very dear friend, so it'll stay. Plus it's entirely self-supporting (unlike many plants in my garden), smells delicious, and is admired by the neighbours.

Hello all, we had a lovely cool breeze coming off the mountains this morning so all the windows have been open but now I must close them before the heat builds up again. It helps that we live up on a hill so we do have it a bit cooler at night.
I have to feed a neighbour's cat for a couple of days, he will come into us for food, he knows the arrangements!
        Have a lovely day all.

I love the sound of your new plant choices - very much my style and colours. Shame we can’t swap phloxes!

            Good afternoon all!
Too hot here to eat - 40°C outside. The aircon is on at 28°C which is largely enough to keep us cool. Gazpacho and salad for lunch - couldn't manage any more. Siesta and lazy afternoon as you do not wish to venture anywhere past the front door in this heat - at this age. Sheer folly.

26°C for our bike/run early this morning @AuntyRach - glad to be back in. Cold shower and morning jobs.

Loving the diving and the gymnastics. Reading. A series on TV and that is the way to wile away a hot summer's day. Gone are the days of lizarding on a beach or even under an olive tree. Mad dogs an Englishmen eh...?

@Busy-Lizzie I see they have a special on roses at Lidl on Monday. Could I buy some and keep them in a shady well watered spot until planting time - which would be the best time, please?

            Have a pleasant day everyone.

                Hello all.

We are back from the church fete. It was getting hot, 34C. Met people we know there. Had hog roast roll, me, and Cornish pasty, him, with chips for lunch. I bought a bagful of books in English, easy reading novels.

Yes @Tui34, buy the roses. Roses like sun but I think there is a bit too much at the moment for baby plants! Keep them shady and watered, as you said, then plant them when the heat wave is over. The time not to plant roses in pots is April/May when they grow new fine white roots which break easily. The roots then go brown and stronger.

Thanks for all your comments about the Scissor sisters.
Maisie, the liver and white, is 15 1/2, and rather doddery, though she poses well. We are living on borrowed time.
Anu, the cheeky one, is 10.
                    Bryn is 7.
We dare not let Maisie off the lead unless in an enclosed field.
                    She enjoys her food though!

Saturday. Believe the rain has washed out. So now wheel barrel and I will be roaming about picking up twigs, limbs etc. Pulling weeds also. Maybe tomorrow cut the front lawn area.
Guests arrived well last night to our Airbnb. they leave Monday.
                      Have a grand day all.

@redstar, that is harsh - calling your OH a wheelbarrow! :heehee: Only joking. I do know what you meant.
I was full of good intentions again today but once more, rain stopped play.

Greetings all. I've been busy outside again, watering the squashes and courgettes and setting up the sprinkler to do 4 of our veggie beds this evening, after I've picked some spuds. Possum flies off to Rome tomorrow so we're having Sunday roast this evening.

More messing with pots before lunch, including an azalea, magnolia Star Wars and 4 roses, one of which attacked me, the ungrateful wretch, and made me bleed. I'm now sheltering from the heat and sun till about 4:30. It's 34C in the shade and set to get to 40C tomorrow and the rain expected on Wednesday has gone away.

I found a new wasp's nest in the polytunnel when I reached in to my covered shelves to get the ericaceous feed. Angry beasties. 3 stings on one finger and despite an anti-histamine and some cortisone cream my hand is now swollen and sore.

By the time I leave for the road trip on Tuesday I shall definitely be in need of some clean and gentle R&R.

In these heats @Tui34 I'd buy the roses and pot them on so they can be kept out of the strongest sun and get on with growing new roots so they're ready to plant out in autumn when it's cooler and wetter.

I'm glad you enjoyed the fête @Busy-Lizzie Today it's the big annual brocante that takes over Les Halles and the central streets andsquares of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits but we're giving it a miss this year. Too hot and too much to do before I leave.

Love that phlox @RowlandsCastle. All we inherited here were a tree peony, 2 mophead hydrangeas, lots of shrubs in a mixed, ornamental hedge and some dwarf conifers on the slope between 2 levels. Happily the conifers died. Apart from that, 3 walnuts, loads of ash trees and some unloved fruit trees with grass and weeds in between.

Ouch ouch ouch @Obelix-Vendée. If you are quick after you've been stung you can rub either vinegar or lemon juice onto the wasp stings which should help to take some of the 'sting' away. Then you can use your antihistamines. Enjoy your Sunday roast tonight.

A triplet of stings sounds very painful @Obelix-Vendée. Oral antihistamine is a good call - cream not enough on its own.

I’ve bought ingredients for a curry tonight but it’s gone all summertime outside so maybe not the best choice. I’ve been eyeing-up the mini poppadoms all afternoon though so it’s happening.
