Gosh @Busy-Lizzie, that is not good news about the dishwasher. I hope you do get it back in a fortnight.
Thanks for the explanation about the fire exit sign @Ergates. It makes sense now. Still think its a funny picture though :heehee:

Hello everyone. Here I am in Périgueux and with wifi!

We had a hairy time leaving Genoa on Saturday morning - locals enjoying the weekend unshine and heading for the beaches along the same road as us and oblivious to road rules. Possum almost had hysterics as there were three corkers in the first 5 minutes before we even hit the main road. Anyway, we survived all that and found ourselves in France with GPS restored. Italy is that blank on the right.
        R - Satnav - Italy.jpg

Little detour thru Monaco and then up into the mountains at Digne-les-Bains which claims to be the lavender capital. Possum wanted to know about lavender but they didn't even have any planted on their decorative roundabouts. No shops, no museum, no lavender. Jolly good storm that night tho.

On to Avignon which is fab. Gorgeous, interesting, lots of lavender! We visited the Palais des Papes but I abandoned half way round - too many steps for a newish knee. Had to explain to some Americans why the papal gardens were so small and organised and only had herbs and box. They were expecting acres and flowers. Another storm that night.

On to Cahors which is also lovely. No storm and interesting drive via the Pont du Gard which is an ancient Roman brideg and viaduct and stunning but a bit brutal then via Millau so Possum could see Norman Foster's magnificent, elegant bridge. She didn't like it! Heathen.

Pottered round Cahors this morning - beautiful medieval bridge, devil stories and a Celtic water goddess - then on to Périgueux. Picnic by the Dordogne than an explore of Roman ruins deciated to another Celtic water goddess. Shower and dinner next then off to see @Busy-Lizzie and her garden tomorrow after a quick peek at Périgueux market in the morning.

I have skimmed everything but far too much to mention except for hurray for the hoglets and the feeding and hope all goes well for Trill at the proms.

Have a good evening everyone and "see you soon".

What a wonderful trip, @Obelix-Vendée! I’m now wondering how I can arrange a trip so see some of these amazing sights, given that we don’t feel comfortable to drive abroad any more. All sounds so tempting!

@Obelix-Vendée what an absolutely super description of your road trip so far. It has made a fascinating and interesting read. Safe onward journey and enjoy your catch up with @Busy-Lizzie.

Hello everyone from the usual rain washed part of the country. I did have a fairly comprehensive 'to do' list but unfortunately I feel it will be another 'confined to barracks' day - well if I'm lucky just the morning. We will have to wait and see.

                  Hello @Ladybird4 - and others.
It's bright here, and no rain expected.
It will be a gardening day, but with OH out all day, I must stay within hearing distance of the front door bell - and phone. Mustn't drop off to sleep!!
I hope you all have a substantial breakfast, to set you up for the day.

I'm not into castles outside of the UK. However, is that Neuschwanstein Castle?

Your garden is fabulous @RowlandsCastle. Thank you for sharing those pics with us. No, it is Bran Castle - one of the inspirations for Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.

What a glorious garden, @RowlandsCastle! It sounds as if your move has been very successful, nicer neighbours and wonderful surroundings. Are those Japanese anemones to the right of the archway? I have just bought a pot of them to plant somewhere in the garden. Not sure where yet ( as usual!) but I’ve been reading comments about how they can take over, and are hard to eradicate. Just what I need actually, I have lots of space, much of it a distance from the house, and any delicate little specimen plants are just going to get lost. Even the dreaded periwinkles have not been able to put up much of a fight against the onslaught of brambles and ferns.
Down to the seaside for a walk this morning. I have two bags of clothes and shoes for the charity shop to drop off while I’m here in town, but must restrain myself and not get tempted by anything I pass on the way to the counter! I’m trying to empty my cupboards, not refill them!
Dry and sunny here today, and the green bins should be empty by the time we get home. Rain forecast for tomorrow so I must get some more bramble clearing done today, and hopefully get a couple of plants into the ground so they can benefit from the rain.
Have a good day, everyone. Don’t do anything dangerous while your wife is out, @RowlandsCastle!

                                Yes @Ergates
They are indeed Japanese anemones. The pink ones seem more invasive than the white ones.
If you have the pink ones, I would suggest keeping them within the pot. Of course, if you want them to spread, be prepared for the result.
My wife tried to eradicate these earlier in the season - and see what we have!! Their roots create lots of new plants. Even a small piece of root left in the ground results in new plants.
I'll try harder later this year.

The white ones seem more placid. Of course, it may depend on the soil and weather conditions. I've never watered ours, and they've grown upto six feet high in places, despite the dryness.
Recommend they are dead headed regularly - like every day!!

Thank you for your comments. Yes, the garden is lovely - with no unpleasant neighbours.
