Good afternoon all. I have had a good pottering day in the garden. I cleared out the gutters on my GH as they were already full of leaves, I then picked a bowl of blueberries off my single plant. I've usually been beaten by the blackbirds and I haven't seen any this year in my garden which does make me feel rather sad. The final - and biggest - task was to try to detangle a rampant climbing rose from my camellia. I've got a lot removed but there is still a lot more to go.
@Busy-Lizzie it seems as though you will have a fun packed evening with 5 grandchildren to keep you amused.
@RowlandsCastle, I was pleased to read you had had some much needed rain. Your day sounds interesting and you did well to get everything on your list. How many postcards tempted you?

 

I was tempted by hundreds of postcards. But I only came home with 38. Thirty-six were of castles, and two others were "just for fun".

Including this one, which I will send to my parents.

Yes, I know that. But the way she stated the statement it sounded like the tank was called a Belgium tank, made by a manufacturer. Like we have the Ford car. We also have a town named Ford which is in Washington state.

 

I love old postcards. I inherited part of my great aunt's collection, dated 1905/6. The messages are as interesting as the pictures. The old snail mail. (a lot quicker than today's snail mail).
I have bought 9 seed potatoes; 3 Pentland javelin, 3 Charlotte and 3 maris peer.

Evening all!

We have had a "sauna" day. Overcast; hot and sweaty. The pain in my hip back and knee is intense so only a bit of stuffing around today.

Don't worry @redstar - it is probably difficult for you to know all the countries of Europe. I certainly couldn't get around the States geographically. We love to read your posts! Keep them coming. I am not British, so I have to look where everyone is from - out of curiosity. I have lived in France now for 34 years and still have to ask - where's that? Superfluous knowledge only.

Picking many grapes at the moment - a little battle with the wasps and birds, but there is plenty for everyone.

As @Obelix-Vendée states - you don't want to be out on the roads this weekend. It is the last weekend of tourism. School is back in 10 days' time and people are heading back to normal activities and fading tans. We, by the way, are reading to receive the Camping Car Brigade which are the pensioners who come here for September/October holidays when the "rush" is over. Much better weather. The supermarket car parks will be chokka in a couple of weeks!!

Sorry @redstar - I was trying (clumsily) to be useful, and not in the least intending to be judgmental. And I agree with @Tui34 in having difficulty working out where different states are in the US. For some reason, some seem easier to locate in my brain than others... and it doesn't help that the only state I've actually visited is Florida...

 

That's a fab postcard of Folkestone harbour, @RowlandsCastle . The illuminated windows make it really special.
