So agree Vicky, even I have to do some research first when visiting a new area. I have now mapped out all our local walks and stored them in a digital album. They are rated to how easy - challenging they are and I select which one based on how my joints are feeling on the day.

Yesterday we decided on a 2 mile one that also includes a lovely open space to sit and enjoy the views. To get there we take a road that ,admittedly does have paths running down both sides but one path slopes quite sharply towards the road and has a lot of dips in it. Hubs chose to walk along that side because it was in full sunshine but I stayed on the opposite path ( still with some sun but with more trees) as it was not tilted and also a lot smoother. I just can't cope too well since my foot fusions and added to that is the strain too that uneven surfaces have on my ( still, unfortunately) dodgy knee.

I love Lymington and it's gorgeous cobblestone streets but I know to minimise the discomfort I have to wear my proper walking shoes which have thick soles and treads which block out the uneveness of the cobbles. Trouble is during the summer months they are a bit too warm to wear, so I carry them in my backpack to change into whenever I feel the need.

Vicky have you considered an All Terrain Mobility Scooter.? My brother has a new wheelchair coming that is currently being built to his specific needs...it can still be pushed but will also have power pack too.

What about these to get you out and about with more ease and comfort ? Just a thought that might be worth looking into.

Morning all 9Am here. Snow is lingering, about 2 inches. Just saw a little fluffy flakes.
Have all I need to remain at home. Love it. Will work on taxes/paperwork some more today.
Find something to clean perhaps. Just love being home. Have a grand day all.

It briefly crossed my mind some time ago Upsy. However, it would not work in our home or garden due to all the levels. Not sure it would fit in our car either (and of course it would exclude my convertible). It is not something I can handle on my own but did see one you could fold up like a suitcase years ago. As long as I can walk, I will stick to my walker.

Good morning everybody, well the 1st week of January has whizzed by!!
What a mix of weather we've had to contend with too ,sun, wind, extreme rain, mild , cold temps and today maybe some sleet ....no wonder we suffer with cases of 'the rheumatics' ..as all aches and pains were often referred to back in my Grandparents day.. all back aches were labelled as lumbago too......bless them. :heehee:

No set plans for today apart from bed stripping and housework and a walk , depending on the weather of course.

Vicky I meant for going out and about more rather than for use in your garden but yes you do have to check carefully to ensure the scooters fit in the car. My younger sister had her boot measurements taken by the wheechair/ scooter specialists last Friday as her car is the only 'family' one our brother can ( with increasing difficulty sadly) get into as she's had adaptations made to it.

            Have a super day everyone.

Morning all. Another fine day ahead but may have showers this evening ... now how many times have we heard that.

Upsy, J doesn't like going out and about. He doesn't like shopping, visiting places, sightseeing, walking, etc. Shopping as necessary and going to a bar for luinch is acceptable.

We live midway between Algoz and Messines (12kms (7.5 miles) and there is not one sidewalk in between. Both towns have cobbled sidewalks, I don't know anywhere that has paved ones.

He hasn't spoken yet this morning (scrolling on his phone now) so don't know if he has grocery shopping to do but will probably go to the Post Office. I will finish the scarf I am crocheting today.

I would never live in a town or have close to neighbours again. We have owned this house since 1997 and moved here in 2001. We are to the left of Barrocal on your map. Yes, we are on a bus route, stops the end of our lane. I have not been on a bus since 1978 when I took it to work.

What beach? We are about an hour East of Lagos.. Meia Praia Beach means Half Beach but it is 4,5 kilometers long. Lagos is lovely with a Marina.

Depends where you buy them from we've been involved with wheelchairs of all types for many , many years as my brother has had severe mobiltly issues for nearly 40 years.
The support we get is brilliant as ongoing adjustments ( as he deteriorates) are constantly available to us. All his joints are quite deformed now and are extremely tender so comfort is paramount and some of the cheaper basic standard ones are just that....run of the mill basic , and one size does absolutely not fit all in the case of wheelchairs, mobility scooters.....for quality of life..get the best you can as it becomes your limbs.

Note...cars can be driven at exceedingly fast speeds ,but fortunately aren't.

Morning all. Monday, almost 9Am here. Interesting discussion from you all about walking, walkers, and wheelchairs. What can I say, certainly an issue for those that need it to get places etc. Right now my joints can be painful at times, sometimes more times than I'd like naturally. Our house is in a big circle with other homes, very safe, very little traffic, only those living in the circle drive into the circle. So one walk around is 1/2 a mile, I try to get 1/2 mile in few times a week. I 'd say my left ankle is the issue, having sprained it too many times in my youth. And walking about my garden keeps me active.
We also do not see the need to want to move. Love it here.

Anyway, back to taxes, house stuff etc. Have a good day all.
