That cake looks delish @Dovefromabove. A slice with a cuppa would go down a treat
Hope it was an interesting start to the course @AuntyRach.

@wiseowl … you’re better have an extra slice of cake then, in case of ‘night hunger’

Personally (because I am of an advanced age now from when I started this 18 years ago) I don't come on the computer after 7pm (dinner time here for us). In the past I have posted at various hours ... and I think you will find some others do. :dbgrtmb:

Hi @Blue arbour - yes I’m excited to get my teeth into the course. I have a new notebook and everything! (Floral of course). We have a study day once a month, with projects and reflections to be done in-between.

Goodness gracious. I went back some on this thread to see all sorts of new folks . Pardon me if this old brain can't address more that a few topics. Lots of merriment. @Dovefromabove the cake looks awesome. Last week I experimented with using up some butternut squash and made chocolate brownies with it, came out very tasty, but more like a cake than a brownie. Gave a bunch to my neighbor who said it was good. And I froze some.

Someone mentioned/or had the question about roaming cats. Over here in our neighborhood, we do nothing about it. All of us encourage each other to get any cats fixed. But if one roams in some one garden no one does anything. My neighbor, her cat likes to visit my garden, she is two doors away. And just lost my last cat, she died at 19 years old. Her mother died a year ago at 22 years old. So we are cat-less for now. And Pet Less.

Reminds me, one day, many years ago , some new folks were had moved in about 2 door up and I knew one of my males loved to hunt mice in the field behind them. So I knocked on their door to tell them ---in case they see him---he knows were he lives and he belongs to me. Right out of her mouth she says "We hate cats" with an attitude. So I responded he's only hunting for field mice. That simmered her down, and she said oh well OK. I do miss my boys, had some good mousers.

Back to whatever. Take care all.

Sorry, late in this evening to reply to @Dovefromabove about eggs. Clearly I should have taken Home Economics at school... I hadn't thought about needing a balance of yolk to white for a perfect cake. The raspberry-and-cream one in your photo looks gorgeous. :) But I bet it's been consumed...

:)Good morning all :) ☕️ :coffee:
                      I hope everyone’s had a restful night.

There are some very noisy blackbirds out there this morning, I can hear the one that includes the beginning of Beethoven’s Fifth in his song … but he’s a bit further away than last spring. There’s another one much nearer … he has a very varied song … and there’s a songthrush just starting up too

I didn’t do Home Economics at school
either @Liriodendron … but my paternal grandmother came from a long line of village bakers in rural Cambridgeshire and she taught me to bake. She had a very good understanding of ingredients … there were millers in the family too.

Today is going to be exciting … I’ll he picking up my new (to me) car … I’ve been without wheels since 9 Feb when a young mannin a hurry rammed my Alfa MiTo from behind on a sliproad and wrote it off.

The new car is at a garage a few miles away so Son is going to take me to pick it up … on the way back I’ll call in at a very good farm shop and butchers and get some food for the weekend.

                        Good morning all
Found the cake and cuppa thank you GC for being so welcoming.
I don't think I will have time to garden today, visitors from England arriving tomorrow, must do food shopping and cook something, probably a stew. I have a strange pain in my hip, and you know what? Incredible as it might sound I think it is caused by a pair of jeans I wore yesterday. I have had this before, time to upcycle them.
                        Have a good day folks

Good morning all. Frost on the house roofs this morning. I hope that the hesperanthas I planted out yesterday will have stood up to it all. I'm hoping to get my nursery buys of yesterday into their permanent places later but first a cuppa is needed.
p.s. I will approach my jeans and cake tins with caution!

Aha … perhaps it’s the combination of jeans and cake that is the problem … why didn’t I think of that @Ladybird4 :noidea:
