    Good morning ladies & gentlemen.

I hope the ophthalmologist appointment goes well @Tui34 , and I hope your lunch is enjoyable @Obelix-Vendée . I trust your dishwasher will arrive safely today and give no further trouble @Busy-Lizzie .

Two pieces of (unexpected) good news here. Firstly, a Step-Brother of the six children who lost their Parents has appeared. I had a talk with him about things. He is prepared assume full parental responsibility and take them back to his home. He is in his mid to late twenties and seems sensible and solvent. There is no perfect outcome in a situation like that, but this is a much better turn of events than I was expecting.

Secondly, I have been talking to my neighbour's Daughter. While she (my neighbour) was in a residential home for an extended time, a social worker appeared and has arranged for government-funded carers to call in with her four times a day. Again, this is a happier development than I had anticipated.

A stiff onshore wind (but not a full gale), and a fairly big sea running. Rain over, but grey skies remain.

Best wishes to all as always.

Back from the ophthalmologist and all is good. My dry macular disease doesn't seem to have progressed which I believe, it doesn't - you just get corrugated vision suddenly and my eyesight hasn't got worse either. So there we are. Had a full morning and only got back at 11.30. Luckily, I had a stuffed tomato to pop into the microwave and a salad does me. Some melon for dessert.

That’s very good news, @Badly_Maintained, and very heartening to hear of a relative prepared to assume responsibility for the children. I suspect that it would be a rarity these days, so he must be a good sort of person.
Glad the eye test was ok, @Tui34. @Obelix-Vendée, I now need glasses for driving. I got a pair a year ago, mainly in case I did any night driving, but am finding that I now need to wear them on dull days, and in shady lanes. I suspect the cataract in my right eye is steadily getting worse, hence the fuzzy car headlights. The optician told me last year that they would continue to correct my eyesight with glasses until that doesn’t work any more, before referring me to have the cataract dealt with. All ok for a bit longer then.
Breakfast out, and a decent walk, now ended up in Ikea for some batteries and light bulbs! This is mainly because we also need petrol, so will visit the big Tesco fuel station next door. Combined with a side trip to Halfords for screen wash, and I might as well have a walk round the next door Hobbycraft ! Don’t actually need anything, but that won’t stop me!

Seems to be a 'good news day' for a change, for the families @Badly_Maintained knows and for @Liriodendron's hoglets.
Our middle dog seems better - she'd probably found something not very savoury to eat.
Good outcome at the dentist this morning, nothing to do, just keep on flossing! After having a butcher for a dentist when I was a kid, I still cannot shed my fear, but they do seem very much 'less invasive' these days. Must look after the old gnashers!
              Feet on Friday

                  Good afternoon all.
@Badly_Maintained those are two pieces of heart warming news, Amazing how that young man has stepped in to help those bereft youngsters. I do hope that he will be able to get some assistance. It was very cheering to read that the neighbour will have people checking in on her daily. Peace of mind for all.
@Tui34, it was pleasing to read your good news about your eyes. It must be a relief to know that they will monitor things for you. (I was going to write 'keeping and eye on you' then thought 'Noooooo'!) I have been wearing glasses/corrective lenses since I was about 8 - so a long, long time. Up until a year or so ago I wore contact lenses which I loved but then my ophthalmologist at a consultation told me they didn't recommend contact lenses for people of my age - cheeky rip! I now just rely on my specs.
@Ergates - I love a Hobbycraft store too. I can spend hours browsing!
@Penny_Forthem, great news about your dog.
@RowlandsCastle, does your larva have a distinct red head (if you can still find it!). It could be a type of chafer larva but it also looks like a beetle larva and if so is a gardener's friend.

Well there was only one picture when I last looked but I don't think it is a privet hawkmoth caterpillar. This is one:

There are several types of hawk moth in the UK so if you look them and their caterpillars up you may find one that looks like yours.

Great news from @Badly_Maintained, @Tui34 and @Penny_Forthem tho different in style.

Other than moving the food nearer the hogs hidey-hole so they get it first I can't think of ways to help @Liriodendron but good to know he's stlll there and i wouldn't have a problem feeding feral cats either; rats are a different matter tho.

@Ergates I find the more I wear glasses for long view, the more I need them for other stuff but better that than losing my sight to glaucoma. Cataracts are much easier to deal with but still not nice.

Successful lunch meeting for me and all very convivial. Lots to do tho so no gardening for me till Sunday, other than setting off the watering and timers.

Sorry @Ladybird4 and @RowlandsCastle - can't help with that bug.
