It’s a lovely evening here.

Hospital trip done for another 6 months. Not a great experience for people with poor mobility this hospital lark. We booked a porter and wheelchair but it was an hour. I chatted up the porter on the way and she left the chair with me so I could porter back. I’ve done a few jobs for Dad (changed bed, washing and dishwasher on, bought him a new footstool and sorted him an easy tea) so we all chuffed with our productive day.

Hello everyone.Well it has been a beautiful Summer's day here today and I had a great time visiting my friend. Interestingly he had been rather disappointed with the crop this year - seems as though the weird weather had affected both the flowering and fruit set of his trees.
These are some pictures of parts of the orchard taken in May this year:

The nice thing about this tree is that DNA analysis showed it was untraceable in the national apple database so my friend was allowed to name it after his wife - the friend I used to go up to Coniston for our 'Ladies Weekends' with.

 

I was able to collect a few apples - all different varieties and a few pears. Many were not yet ready for picking. But I will have fun preparing these:

@Obelix-Vendée, I hope you managed to get everything packed up for your weekend exhibition - I guess you may have gone to get all set up today?
@Liriodendron, I am mightily impressed with your problem solving attempts trying to reserve the food for your hedgehogs only. I'm waiting now to hear how the 'water bath' fares.
@RowlandsCastle, thank you for the sunflower picture. I think any daisy-like flower is such an attractive shape. I am always drawn to that particular family.
@LG_ good to see you and so pleased to read that Trill had such an enjoyable experience at the Albert Hall - you must be so proud.
@Badly_Maintained, those pictures of the sea are stunning. Thank you too for sharing your pictures with us.
@Tui34, I'm so very sorry that hip of yours is such a painful problem - but not for too much longer. I really admire your fortitude and will have everything crossed here for you to get through the operation and back to a more comfortable life as soon as possible.

 

@AuntyRach, you have had a busy day too. I'm pleased everything went smoothly for you and your Dad. It reminded me of all the times I had to take Mum to the hospital to have injections in her eyes for her macular degeneration.

Almost too tired to type! Daughter is coming to stay tomorrow, so we have had a blitz on the neglected housework. Spent most of the day on it, but the guest room and bathroom are ready and welcoming, and the rest of the house is looking a lot tidier. Managed to get three loads of laundry done too. Over the last two days, I’ve finished planting shrubs on the neglected flower bed. Probably not the best time of year, but I’m sure the plants will be happier in the ground rather than the pots they’ve been stuck in for ages.
Lovely to see all the pictures of apple trees. Visited a friend this week, and came home with a bag of cooking apples from her loaded tree.

Made my tarragon and raspberry vinegars today, pruned and tidied the greenhouse, picked maybe the last of the French beans, a fat courgette and fried it with the beans in butter and garlic (diet, what diet?) and enjoyed a bit of sun.

Evening everybody, sorry I don't seem to have had much time for posting lately, There's so many posts that by the time I've read through to the end, I have to go and do something else.
We're enjoying some beautifully, warm, settled weather lately although that does mean I've had to start watering the pots regularly again, just been out to do the terrace pots and it's now dark.

I've been back and forth to our local hospital too @AuntyRach, ferrying some friends to and fro for a double appointment 3 hours apart. Easier and cheaper for them to park here than at the hospital.
Love that castle pic @RowlandsCastle - what you might call a 'proper' castle that one.

I was the victim of a scam phone call this morning, luckily I was suspicious right away, and phoned my credit card company when we got back home who checked my account and found no suspicious activity on it. I am, though, now marked as a deaf, old woman who needs special attention when I next ring. Don't know whether I'm relieved or annoyed at that!!

You won't believe it folks but my daughter just sent me a photo of mince pies being sold in a major supermarket. Time to get ready????

@Tui34, my OH reckons that his 2nd hip op has been so much easier than the first. He's been walking over a mile each day recently and hopefully gets signed off next week. He won't know what hits him then as I've a long list of jobs he can start doing now he's mobile! Good luck for next week.

@fairygirl, hope your daughter appreciates the painting you're doing for her.
