I'd give my left hip for a pizza now - I must admit the food here is very good - 3 course meal lunch and dinner. No wine of course - not even any water. You have to get that yourself.....well the nurse does as I can't hold crutches and a water bottle at the same time.

I am soooo bored. I have done crosswords, reading, watching TV and walking little steps - so far 3 times today. Will do another jaunt after dinner then settle in for the night. It's painful when I get up and start walking, after that it seems to be ok. We'll see tonight. I only have 1000mg paracetamol as a painkiller before bed.

We have a huge Jardinery (plant shop)in Beziers and they were here too but it has changed to Gamm Vert although it still l ooks the same. Good plants, no complaints and good advice.

I'd better check the weather forecast here for the weekend. Can't have rain if I am meant to be walking 4 times per day.

Thanks @Ladybird4. I had it in a previous garden but I couldn't find one for sale when I was making the shrub bed so I bought a pot bound single one from the DIY place that doesn't look after plants. Maybe that's why it died.

I'm in the same club @lizzie27, @Obelix-Vendée and @Ladybird4. I have arthritis in my hands. I can't sew any more as holding small things is difficult. I can't make a fist either. My son had to cut my wedding ring off as it was hurting my swollen finger and I found it hard to hold the reins when I used to ride. My fingers often hurt now and sometimes wake me in the night. I used to have a Jersey cow and milk her by hand. My doc told me to stop. May have said all that before.

Are you not allowed to snooze? Apart from the constant BP checks, OH was able to doze some of the time away. I hate being in hospital, as you say, it's very boring unless you are very ill of course and then you're just glad to be alive. Fortunately I've only been in for fairly minor ops.
Do they not use morphine in France? OH was even given some to take home with him, just a week's supply if strictly necessary of course.

I will join the arfwitis finger club. A pain. Literally.
After hub's extensive cancer surgery, he was sent home with paracetamol. If you've ever heard a grown man howl with pain, you'll move heaven and earth for Oromorph. I did.
A fleece evening for dog walks.
I cannot remember who mention Picnic in Provence. I was reminded of it and bought it on Ebay, second hand
          It is charmingly written.

Pleased the op has gone well, @Tui34.
That meter installation sounds like a nightmare, @lizzie27, especially in this weather. We have just had a communication to tell us that our electricity meter is past its sell by date and needs replacing. Luckily it’s inside, so should be doable. However, if they put a smart meter in, I’d be surprised if there will be any signal for it.
It is still raining here, hasn’t stopped since this morning and the patio is flooded again. Had a day at home doing laundry, and getting quotes for car insurance renewal - that wasn’t much fun at all.
However, this week, I have joined a local choir! Meets once a week, purely for fun, and lots of popular songs to learn. I’m very rusty, and can’t hit the high notes anymore, but enjoyed learning an Elvis song, amazing to hear it in three parts with sopranos and tenors. Already looking forward to next week.

Ooh @Ergates, I have been inundated with quotes for car insurance as mine is due on 20th of this month. I research every year to find the cheapest and up to press my present insurer is proving to be that. I still have a few days to play with though so I'll wait until the last minute. Your choir sounds like it could be good fun.

Thank you very much, @Ladybird4 , for your fungus suggestion. That looks a good match! "Veined shield" describes it pretty well, too.

When walking today I managed to trip and land on my knee on a rock. It hurt at the time, but not afterwards when I started to move - but now it's quite swollen and stiff. You'd think that at my age I'd have learnt not to look one way and walk another, but no...

I don't see the point of letting people suffer avoidable pain, especially post-op, tho I do understand about trying to avoid addictions so I hope they're giving you what you need to get decent, healing sleep @Tui34.

For my 2nd knee op, they swapped me between doses of paracetamol and an anti-inflammatory thru the day. The first time that was ibuprofen and that was fine but the second time they gave me ketaprofen and my tum rebelled against everything. 60 hours with no pain meds and no food just 4 days after a whole new knee is not fun but the ice blocks helped. As soon as I could I took the paracetamol-codeine combos and they worked fine.

At the mo, I'm more bothered by arthritic toes than fingers and not looking forward to going back to shoes instead of flip flops and, oaccasionally, smarter sandals. Much happier bare foot really.

Singing sounds good @Ergates. Finding insurance not so much.

@Tui34 We have Gamm'Vert here too. The one in La Roche is expensive and has too much "lifestyle" stuff. The one in Luçon is great for veg plugs in spring and more actual garden plants and products.

I hope your meters are working properly now @lizzie27

Evening all, good to hear your op went well @Tui34, they certainly don't want you sitting about all day as i recall!! The water problem i remember as well, not good with the crutches!
We will have a couple staying in our studio for a week from Saturday so we are busy getting it ready inside and out, it has been rather neglected of late.
Its very cool here but at least it's stopped raining. I need to pick more tomatoes before the blight totally finishes them off.

A very good morning one and all. I hope that @Tui34 had a peaceful night. Going out with my Quiz friends today for lunch. These 'first Friday' meals seem to be coming around more and more quickly. I must ring the local GC where I am booking our special C meal for December. You can book online but it only allows you to book for 6 and there are 9 of us hence the phone call.

@Liriodendron, you are definitely not on your own having that sort of 'accident' in the garden. I speak from personal experience. Once, whilst wrestling a particularly tough flag iris I tugged so hard that I fell backwards and landed on my bum right next to my pond. For a moment I sat and pretended that I had meant to do that - just in case the neighbours had spotted me and then I just couldn't get up because I was laughing so much. It really did take me a while to get up as I had to sort of shuffle over onto all fours before using the fence to assist me.

                              Good morning all.

One of my best friends is coming here today. After 1st OH died in '98 we used to go riding together. Her OH worked abroad a lot so we were both on our own so we saw a lot of each other for about 10 years. Since then her OH has retired and I met 2nd OH, our horses died of old age, I moved house, so we don't see each other much any more. Also I go to the UK quite often and my friend's OH bought a camping car and they explored South America in it. We are going out to a restaurant for lunch. I'm looking forward to seeing her.
