We went to a GC this morning and I bought some violas for the front garden and 3 bags of compost. Despite the rain on Tuesday the garden is very dry, sandy soil. I've put the sprinkler on.

Good morning @Tui34 and people arriving later. I won't even mention today's day and date but I am very happy with what is celebrated. How are you feeling this morning and was the nurse pleased with your progress?

That is my sort of day @Ladybird4 I'm a bit of a chocolholic!!

The nurses that come once a day are pressed for time. Moreover, they 2 that have been, are replacement nurses for the ones that I know, who are doing a formation course at the moment. Not one of them have asked about pain. And yesterday, the nurse had to change the plaster which covers the steristrips and sutures - didn't even disinfect her hands - although she is using strong disinfectant to clean around the wound and tweezer-like pincers to hold the gauze. They also leave their "rubbish" in a special plastic bag (open) on the table for me to dispose of. As they are replacement nurses, one doesn't like to complain - only minor details.

The painkillers make my tummy feel bloated and odd, so I'm going to try a day without them and relax a bit. My physio is coming at 9ish so she may have some ideas. Anyway, it's obvious that the pain is lessening as I get stronger with the walking around.

Well - I had to say it - there's no Curmudgeon's Corner on here!!

I wish I could do some gardening porn @Busy-Lizzie and make a trip to the GC and do some digging in the garden!! Soon. Soon!!

Hmmm @Tui34 that does appear to be a little careless and the lack of handwashing does give cause for concern. As you say, minor details. Onwards and upwards as they say. Hope the physio can come up with some useful suggestions regarding the painkillers. Sometimes it seems that what is supposed to help make you better produces adverse conditions. This happened with me when a specialist realised that it was ibuprofen that made me ill.

              Morning all.

There is a sort of Curmudgeons Corner her @Tui34. Latest Moan From You and Me 2024 Better to complain to us though as we've been following your progress. Don't the nurses even wash their hands? What has happened to nurse training nowadays?

Someone from a garage is coming to pick up NDN's car today. It hasn't been driven for about 2 years. Her granddaughter has given me the keys and paperwork.

Good morning. It's bright and sunny but chilly here. Set to get to 19C later. I have all sorts of jobs to do and errands to run but hope to get an hour in the garden later.

I have a muehlenbeckia which is very pretty but an absolute thug. It has swamped a fairly large white hebe which desperately needs rescuing. That's the first step in clearing the bed next to the old barn but the rest will have to wait for some rain.

Meanwhile, my raid on France Rurale yesterday yielded Savoy, curly kale and broccoli plugs plus some onion sets and broad bean and pea seeds. No ornamentals.

Like you @Tui34 I find the regular team better than the occasional replacement but they all leave the rubbish behind. One of my ladies at patchwork had her new knee last spring and just had to suffer as she is allergic to all anti-inflammatories and most of the usual painkillers. Made of stern stuff tho and is now back with her walking group but only doing short ones for now.

There are 4 of us with new knees now and half a dozen more with cataracts and new lenses so we're the Spare Parts club.

I'll let you know about the chocolate cake @Ladybird4.

Greetings to all yet to pop in. Hope you've had a good night and have fun today.

Morning all, a bright cold morning should be good for getting the washing dry. The nurses here don't wash their hands before procedures either but do afterwards. The rubbish is always left for me to clear away, except for the sharps of course which go in their box.
I also need to buy some winter veggie plugs @Obelix-Vendée mine just won't grow!
When do you have your sutures out @Tui34?

Good morning all. Got down to 2C last night, which is a bit too close to zero for my liking.

Amazing to read that nurses don't wash their hands before changing dressings etc. Surely this must be "against the rules"? Anyway, hope the physio has sensible suggestions for you to help with the pain, @Tui34 . I wouldn't recommend the "latest moan" thread unless you're happy with a lot of political ranting, though - I used to follow it, but find it makes me see red too often! Curmudgeons' Corner was much gentler, in my recollection, and we had separate threads for contentious issues, on GW.

I'm quite tempted by a Muehlenbeckia, @Obelix-Vendée , but I hadn't realised they could take over. Hmmm...

DPD are delivering my bulbs from Farmer Gracy this lunchtime. Hooray! I must get out and do some more scything - some of them are destined for the meadow area.

                    Chocolate cake... now, there's a thought... :biggrin::help:

@Liriodendron I shall take a before and after phototo help you decide. Might be good in a ground cover capacity if you have such a space where other plants won' be swamped. It is very pretty, especially with raindrops on the foliage.

I am awaiting a delivery of seeds and bulbs from Graines de Baumaux. Better check delivery dates.

I haven't planted any winter vegetables this year as I don't quite know where I'll be.

The first nurse who came on Sunday to give me the anti-coagulant injection, asked me where she could wash her hands, and set a clean towel aside for her crew. None of whom have ventured near the handbasin since. It is her nursing business. She has taken the prescription for the work to be done @floralies but I imagine the sutures will come out 10 days after they were put in.

The nurse today didn't wash her hands either - neither before nor after. She did take the syringe with her. Another replacement.

It is windy again here and it makes walking unenjoyable. It is sunny though. A high of 22°C. The physio manipulated my hip left and right and backwards. I have a couple more extra exercises, one of which is standing up from a sitting position!! Ha!! Hands on knees! The pain today is okay when sitting down reading etc. Getting up is another kettle of fish until I am lubed up!! So the painkillers didn't really do much chop then, did they?

PS The physio said that if I felt that the painkillers were making me feel bad, then stop, but just maybe take one on demand. You can never be pain free with this type of operation. She also said that the cushion under the knee in bed wasn't a good idea, as the hip needs extension as much as possible and by keeping it in a bent position, won't help the healing process.

Good service from my dentist; a call first thing to 'triage' me to get me in earlier than 2 weeks. Another an hour later, with an appointment for.... this Monday!
All of you can help yourselves to my chocolate!
I'm shocked at the lack of washing, @Tui34 . The visiting district nurses were assiduous in their handwashing and stressing the need for a clean towel each day - that was daily for 5 months after hub's op.
Off to the SM. Already done the big pet store in the opposite direction.

That does not sound too clever @Tui34 - more like hard work. I think, if the cushion support in bed helps you get some decent sleep it may well be good for healing as well as morale. You can do all the hip extensions you need while awake to compensate. Half the trouble is that physios etc know the theory and how to manage after such ops but have no personal experience......

I remember in the late 80s going to A&E after a horse riding accident which cracked my knee cap and tore some ligaments. The junior doctor sat there with the "how to" book open on her lap and said "The books says this doesn't hurt" as she bunged in a huge needle to aspirate the swelling. The book was wrong.
