Good afternoon all. Well we got a lot of work done on the planned quiz this morning. I had to resort to driving round as it was pouring down and it has never stopped today. My garden and path are awash and Cricket is completely fed up. Once more my two large water butts are overflowing.

Hope that you don't have to wait too long this week until you get your boiler sorted out @Busy-Lizzie.

Oh my @Tui34, what a delightful lunch for you today. I am very envious that you were able to get out into the garden under your pergola. At least your cucumber has a smooth skin - unlike my mini munch cukes which all resembled my cacti and my arthritic hands are not too clever at holding knives/peelers. I think I would have been better buying the seeds from a named company so I'm not sure about trying to grow them again.
@RowlandsCastle, don't sell yourself short. I think you are more talented in the kitchen than you would like us to think. What day are you starting your visit to Edinburgh?
@Penny_Forthem my favourite way of cooking parsnips is roasting them around beef. When they have absorbed the delicious dripping they are ambrosia of the Gods

 

After several phone calls OH has found a heating chap who can come on Thursday. He has serviced our boiler before.

It has tipped with rain all day. Done some HW and went to the SM so now we are stocked up with milk, bread, veg and meals.

@Tui34, lunch looked good but I can't make out whether it's mushrooms or mussels I'm looking at!
We've had a nice day out, took OH's new car over to friends for lunch at their old Farmhouse about 15 miles away. They also do B&B although they're winding down a bit now they're getting older. I didn't relish all the housework she has to do or the constant ongoing maintenance involved in a large, quite old house.
Lunch was very good, big homemade Scotch Eggs, salad and homemade bread plus homemade relishes etc. I took my wellies to have a wander round their large (over an acre) as we had a terrific storm/gale last night. (Fortunately nothing in our garden had been blown over/broken as far as I can see). Had a good natter and left about 4 pm. I think dinner might be just a snack tonight, maybe beans on toast later.
We have the same problem with the fairly new loo seat in our en-suite @Penny_Forthem, drives us mad but we can't get at the screws at all (long story). The other one's fine in the main bathroom.

 

Evening everyone. It’s not really cold but my fleeces and fleecy socks have made an appearance already.

I’ve had a really productive day with ‘life admin’ and helping Dad. Plenty going on with all you too.

We go off on 3rd, but don't arrive in Scotland until either the 5th or 6th.
We leave Edinburgh on 19th, and arrive home late on 22nd.
Had to be home in good time, since I have to be up at 4am on 24th, to go to a London hospital. More neurological issues.
We do have some friends using our place while we are away, which is handy. For all concerned.

 

Good idea that @RowlandsCastle because your house will be nice and warm for your arriving back.

Good Morning everyone.

October is here, ready to put on a show of Autumn leaves. For those who have a Birthday this month, our gem stone is opal and flowers are cosmos, calendula or marigolds.

 

@AuntyRach, it is one of my great-nephew's birthday today and my youngest sister's later in the month. Her birthday is always the prompt for the clocks going back one hour. My Bestie's birthday is 31st. Even she admits to being a witch! ‍

 

From your wording @AuntyRach I'm assuming you have a birthday this month. I know another Rachel who has a birthday this month.

 

Is that possibly Mrs @RowlandsCastle I wonder?

 

Nope. But close. It's one of my sisters, who I won't get to see this month, as I'll be away for most of it.
And Mrs @RowlandsCastle won't have a birthday for another six months - or thereabouts.
