Good morning all. A lovely autumn day here, likely to be dry(ish) enough for gardening!

However, I'm still wrestling with our water supply problem at the cottage. The council test our drinking water (which is from a spring) each year, and we were confident it would pass because we had a lot of expensive work carried out on the water system over last winter. However, it failed... and we couldn't work out why. The plumber fitted a new UV filter last weekend, but then realised that the water pump was too powerful for the recommended flow rate on the filter - so we now need to install bigger filters, or a new pump, or a flow regulator in the pipework. The last option would be the cheapest, but we need to be sure that the reduced flow will still be sufficient to deliver the water to the upstairs tanks, which are around 8ft higher than the filters. But for now I've left the question with the plumber, so hopefully he'll be able to sort it out...

Wet wet wet here and none too warm. Can't find my slippers which were put away last April so I'm wearing flip flops and leg warmers. Very elegant!

The sky is a uniform, flat, low grey with no signs of a break. Sewing then.

No October birthdays here. We do November, December and January.

      Stay warm and dry everyone.

Yes correct! @Ladybird4 They are oysters and delicious they were!! Mussels @lizzie27 have a black shell and are oval in shape.

@RowlandsCastle have an enjoyable break in Scotland. Lovely country.

My sister's birthday today. She had a lovely day and I imagine is tucked up in bed by now. (in NZ)

I hope your rain abates a bit for you to get outside in the garden. I have some stuff to plant but I cannot as yet not only get down - but can't get back up again and the position would be a definite no-no for me yet. Still aches and pains but it's more like the day after a session at the gym!!

              Good afternoon.
It’s been another very wet, dismal day and quite a bit more blustery, which is making it feel cooler. Another day unable to do anything in the garden.
There are a few October birthdays in the family as well, but April and August are particularly busy months too.

Well it was dry when we got up but it didn't last. According to the forecast we were supposed to be on the edge of it, and it would clear up, fat chance, it's just got a whole lot heavier. I planted one bowl of crocus in the greenhouse, the only other "gardening " job was to order some veg seed from the Organic catalogue, they were doing 10 packs for £10, ie £1 each, so I thought it would be rude not to.

I had a walk this morning, and daftly decided to take a walk just above the beach. Had several face fulls of seawater!! Being north facing, that shouldn't have been a surprise - and the tide was high.

Mine was a much needed haircut and shopping day today. Enjoyed most of it but found it rather tiring. The only thing I couldn't find was a new analogue kitchen timer on a neck cord, my favourite kitchen shop don't stock them any more, nor did another 3 places. Will try the internet later. Had a bit of a shock in M&S when my husband's new PJ's were more than double the price of mine. That's really not on, as the same material and style as mine.
Luckily the weather stayed more or less dry and I was able to ring OH to come and meet me from the bus stop in order to carry my rather heavy shopping bag.

Oysters didn't occur to me @Tui34, should have looked more closely.

It's a fasting day today and I am now soooo hungry! Good news is that I was able to buy some new joggers two sizes smaller!

Back from art. We spent more time discussing where to go for our Christmas dinner, than painting. Still not sure we actually came to an agreement, but it has to be somewhere we can all park easily. At least we agreed on the date!
Hub is cooking tonight's supper. A Chinese concoction; he is very good, having lodged with a Chinese family during his student days. There are lots of veggies, as we're on a 'thin day'. I feel your hunger @lizzie27
Our brown bin is empty, so tomorrow is clearing the toms from the greenhouse, before installing the sacks of healthy looking Christmas spuds. I also wany to try and save as many chilli plants as I can.

                        Evening folks.

Bake Off tonight is biscuit week. I rarely bake biscuits - firstly because you see how much sugar and butter goes in, and secondly because you have about 30 seconds between done and burnt!

Well done @lizzie27. I just can't get motivated to lose a bit of weight. I enjoy food too much! OH says I'm not fat, so that's OK!

It has rained all day. I did venture out briefly to buy birthdays cards for 2 grandsons and get the post from the letterbox. Details and plane tickets for our river cruise have arrived. My suitcase is 5cm too long for the flight. Bother.

I've painted the wall in the breakfast room where OH threw a glass of wine at it, accidentally. It may need a 4th coat. The paint is left over from when I painted it after we moved in. It seems to have gone a bit thin.

Thanks for the information @RowlandsCastle . I bet that splash of seawater washed all the cobwebs away!
Goodness @Liriodendron. All those possible solutions sound as if they are expensive. Hopefully your plumber will get it all sorted for you.
For once I managed to get a fair bit done in the garden - until the rain started again but I have broken the back of the bulb planting. Should be able to get that task completed by this weekend.
@Allotment Boy, that special seed offer sounds like an absolute bargain so I think you did the right thing.
Well done on the weight loss @lizzie27.
@Penny_Forthem, I am like your friends, I am quite happy to go anywhere as long as they have nice big car parks. I have already booked the C*******s meal for our First Friday Quizzers and, surprise surprise, it is at one of my favourite garden centres.
How very frustrating it must be knowing how critical that tiny measurement is @Busy-Lizzie!

Evening all. I've had a rivetting day sorting thru fabrics for the patchwork club - various historic donations. All the non patchwork quality is headed for the container park and that leaves not-a-lot for me to iron and fold and sort. The other excitement was ploughing thru my email Inbox, filing or deleting.

All this cos I too have been having a thin day and needed to stay well away from temptation and it's been too wet to garden.

While I was cooking dinner Possum wandered in and asked if we could do KETO for a while. No, we have a whole bed full of Désirée potatoes to eat.

Dance class tonight so the Bake Off will be watched tomorrow night. Not a huge fan of biscuits other than ginger nuts (for my lemon cheesecake), home-made chocolate chip and flapjacks. I do like to see what the contestants come up with tho.
