Good morning everyone. I slept in this morning - not surprised after Thursday's sleepless night. I am hoping to get some cakes baked for tomorrow's coffee morning before I go up to the village to get my flu jab. Nice to see you @redstar. You must have really done something bad to your wrist to need all this complex surgery. Like has been mentioned by others, I hope that you have a very speedy recovery.

@Allotment Boy, I was also fascinated by the item about bees and flowers on GW. It did conjure up amusing pictures of bees being bombarded by pollen. The colour changing of flowers once pollinated was so clever.
I have to say I was reduced to tears of laughter by HIGNFY - one of my favourite programmes.

          I hope Cricket comes home.
There is nothing worse than a pet disappearing into thin air.
When cat sitting for my daughter, their cat went missing for 3-4 days, when I asked the neighbour if she had seen her she said "No, but Mrs ***** up the road might know". Turned out the woman was trying to entice my daughter's cat away by keeping her shut in because she was "being ill treated, she limped because she had been kicked". I pointed out the cat was much loved, had been hit by a car so now walked with a limp and had to spend several weeks with the RSPCA recovering before my daughter was allowed to take her home. I also pointed out I had made enquiries with the Police who told me it is considered theft in law to keep someone's animal.
My own cat went missing for a few days, eventually came home smelling very strongly of perfume. When I told my neighbour she immediately said it was probably a woman who lived across the road. A so called cat lover. Why do some people consider any cat straying into their garden is homeless. My own grandmother was guilty, cats will often run at least 2 homes, especially if their original home is busy, noisy or the family are at work all day.
Cats are opportunists, somewhere warm, dry, comfortable and extra food. What is not to like!

Brilliant! Possibly shut in someone's shed or took some time out to carry out important cat business!

                Morning all.

Ladybird’s cat is safely home now @Goldenlily26 - many of us were worried.

I agree about cats being clever/naughty and trying their luck at other houses. We have quite a few cats that walk through the garden but one little Miss makes herself at home on my garden chairs and runs over when I go outside hoping I have treats in my pocket (which I often do).

I hope everything is straightforward @redstar and you recover quickly.

Enjoy the weekend folks. I’ll do jobs this morning then chill out as I’m in work again tomorrow.

I had to take Rob to the vet yesterday afternoon. He has a very painful eye. No idea how or why but there is a small ulcer on it. It is swollen and very manky. I am sponging it with salt water and have anti biotic drops to put in. Not easy as he hates having his face touched, especially having the fur clipped close to his eyes. He is very miserable, it must be so painful poor old chap. It probably feels like a rock in his eye.

Poor Rob, @Goldenlily26 . Hope his eye soon recovers!

Hello all. Boringly wet and windy here so I'm forced to do some (much needed) housework today...

Hope @redstar isn't in too much pain.

Happy Saturday everyone. It's sunny but I've had a disturbed night - brain churning - and then a lazy, dozy morning. I shall to some potting up of plants this pm and then make sure I'm all set for tomorrow's garden club visits.

One is to the garden of a recently deceased member who collected Michalemas daisies in all their sizes and colours. His family want to honour his invitation to visit. The other is to a well known and very large independent nursery whose chief plantsman is a member so we get a private visit - specialists in trees and shrubs and less well known perennials.

Luckily the forecast has changed from downpour to occasional light showers.

Think of the dusting and vaccing as weeding and pruning @Liriodendron .

Hope Rob heals well @Goldenlily26. Happy baking @Ladybird4

Good afternoon everyone.Thank you for your kind words about Cricket @Goldenlily26. Yes, he is now safe and definitely sticking close to home. The hugest worry when pets disappear is always that they are lying injured somewhere or that someone is being unkind to them. I am so sorry for poor Rob. Often they don't realise that you are trying to help. I do hope that the antibiotics work soon and that he is back to his happy self.
@Busy-Lizzie, I don't know what the weather was like at Southwold today - it has been glorious here - but I was just wondering if the family had dared to go for a swim?
As it was so pleasant this morning I decided to walk to the village to get my flu jab. There was a queue but they soon whittled their way through Until it was my turn. Really nice nurse asked me how I was and I told her about the cold developing but that apart from that I was champion. She did say that I might get a more severe reaction but just to take loads of fluids onboard and paracetamol if needed. I normally never have a bad reaction to any vaccination - apart from my arm being a little stiff for a couple of days. Having been a pincushion through all my formative years, travelling around to Dad's various postings, and getting the requisite protective inoculations, I think I am fairly immune to adverse reactions.
When I got home I set to my baking. I had already taken a lemon drizzle cake out of the freezer so I made a tea loaf and some coconut pyramids - using condensed milk. I will only make them once in a blue moon as they are incredibly labour intensive! They are gluten free which helps. I then had to clear up the bombsite that my kitchen becomes whenever I bake. I am now sitting and having a rest. I am so pleased I got all my bulb planting completed yesterday! Woo hoo!

I was advised years ago to take a paracetamol half an hour before any dental treatment or vaccinations. It certainly helps but I still do get a sore arme fater jabs for flu and covid.

Baking for me too @Ladybird4 . I was going to make a large Yorkshire mint tart to share at tomorrow's picnic lunch but I'm a Lancahsire lass by adoption and my mints are looking a bit tatty after all the wind and rain so it's become a giant Eccles cake instead. No idea how it will turn out but none of them will know what the original is like anyway.

Now to put some chicken thighs in to soak in a mix of lime zest and juice, chipotle paste, olive oil, garlic etc. and then to set up the belly pork for automatic roasting while I'm out tomorrow.

After all that I can go and get mucky and pot up sme of mu atumn daffs which are waiting for OH to repair that wall.......

Clouding over now. I do hope everyone has had some sun today.

Oh my goodness @Obelix-Vendée a giant Eccles cake or even Chorley cake are both so yummy!I have fallen in love with the charms of Michaelmas daisies having seen that wonderful picture @Busy-Lizzie took of some during one of her garden visits. Having those pops of colour so late into the year is joyous.

Mmm... I'm just imagining a giant Eccles cake... sometimes OH brings some back from one of his trips to England. The standard size, not giant - and they have to be the genuine article, made in Lancashire with butter, sugar, currants & flaky pastry (and loads of calories)... :rolleyespink:

Remembering our last cat, who was the gentlest of creatures; the only procedure which she really took exception to, was putting drops in her eyes. We used to have to wrap her very firmly in a towel to enclose all limbs, and it took two people to get the job done.
