My Octopus Teacher is on Netflix @Ladybird I get to watch the english stuff when I babysit for a young couple just along the road. They have the lot having 2 little preschoolers and it is sad to say that they seem to watch a lot of TV.

I used to have a Box that was given to me many years ago by an english couple who went back to the UK but apparently, the footprint was changed and I haven't bothered since. It's wrapped up and boxed in the garage.

As for snails @Obelix-Vendée - I too only thought they came with garlic butter but not so. When we returned in 1990, my husband took me out with a string bag - snail hunting. Only the biggest petit gris were "caught". Then at home, into a birdcage with flour and lots of sprigs of thyme for 2 weeks for clean out their dribble! My mother-in-law cooked them in a delicious tomato sauce with jambon de montagne (Parma ham) I liked the sauce but found the snails to be a bit of pliable rubber. The French just love them this way. The little white ones apparently are nice cold with mayonnaise - home made of course. I have had them in a walnut and bacon bits sauce - again - I liked the sauce!! I like my green beans in a garli/parsley/butter sauce.

@Ladybird Fizz gets 2 "promenades" a day at the moment. When I took her on my bike, she'd have to run, (usually ahead of me), so no time for sniffles and dominant wees. Now she can, so I tell her to enjoy it while she can, but she keeps looking for bits of stick for me to throw!! Yesterday, I met a friend with her dog, so she let her dog off the leash and the two of them tore around the path and field like mad!! So that was a bit of letting off her steam!! She and I will be glad to get biking again - not yet. Perhaps another 3 weeks to be on the safe side. I have my follow-up appointment on the 5th November, so surgeon will give me the green light.

          Thank you @Tui34
It's basically a rest, short walk, rest day, given the disturbance of last night, and the rain that has set in this afternoon.
The estate here is not huge, but it's quiet (mostly!!). Pheasants abound, as do a couple of other similar sized birds, and we've seen deer, rabbits and several smaller birds, just from the lounge window.
I'm keen to get out to hunt down the smaller castles, but my driver wants to rest. Who am I to argue?

            Afternoon all,

A showery sort of day today, but more sunshine than rain.

You are staying in a beautiful place @RowlandsCastle. I’m sure you’re going to enjoy your trip.

Popped out to a local GC for a bite of lunch and a mooch around. A lot of Xmas tat on show, just one or two ok things but the majority of it not to my taste at all.

No, I can’t say I have seen her lately @Bluejayway, nor Ante1 come to that. I hope they are both ok.

It's not just World Octopus Day, but also International Podiatry Day - which amused my older sister, who has a birthday today.

@Bluejayway Dordogne Damsel has a partner now and she's joined a walking group. I see her sometimes on Facebook. She's very busy with her restaurant. Since I moved house I don't see her anymore, too far away.

                        Evening everyone.

Flu jab today and my arm is a bit heavy/sore but it’s a small price to pay if I can avoid the illness.

Easy tea tonight as left over chicken, then Bake Off is bread week. Enjoy if you follow that, and if not - enjoy your evening anyway.

I'm doing one of the things I enjoy most... planning a meal with friends.
It's a rather special birthday for me at the end of this month and I have invited 3 'old' friends to join us for lunch to celebrate.
My first thoughts were; casserole (chicken or beef), boulangère, cauliflower cheese. But then I thought... hang on, we're oldies, we don't eat much midday!
So now I've moved onto a gado-gado style of meal, with a spicy (ish) satay dressing, chicken, lots of veg and crunchy peanuts.
I have my grandparents' platter, which was part of their wedding set present in 1910. It's a very handsome blue and white one. As they were farmers, it probably held legs of lamb. We serve our Christmas goose on it. It's about to get a make over!!

As OH is indisposed I've decided we're not going dancing, tho he was willing, so we'll be able to watch the Bake Off @AuntyRach . I love bread week.

I gave away all my big oval platters when we moved @Penny_Forthem but still have some round ones as they're better for big tarts and cakes. Nothing inherited or sentimental as not entertaining families on either side but Possum will have some sorting to do. Every time I try to do a clear out of stuff I haven't used for a while she resists and back it all goes in a cupboard.

We can do a midday feast or celebration but then don't need much in the evening. Love a spicy satay as long as it's not claggy.

The back end of storm Kirk has arrived and it's chucking down but not with huge winds so we'll be OK tucked up indoors and will check we have two pussies before going to bed. We opened up the polytunnel for the chooks today and OH found 8 eggs in a tub of grit. All tested in a bowl of water and all "sinkers" so fresh from just the last few days of rain. I'll have to put a proper nesting bow in there for them.

                              It sounds delicious @Penny_Forthem.

We usually have our main meal in the evening. Just been making beef, onion and mushroom pie, ready in 10 mins, with Brussels Sprouts. We had a big joint of rump with OH's family on Sunday so what is left is in the pie.

Done lots of ironing and we went to Diss for a few things. I now have a smart silvery pink cover for my mobile phone.

As long as its not part of a firework display @Tui34!
Super pictures of Edinburgh Castle @RowlandsCastle. Did you see the military dogs cemetery when you were there? I found that very moving. BTW, definitely do not cross the driver - its a long walk home!
My arm was like that for a while on Sunday - after I had my flu jab Saturday @AuntyRach but its back to normal now.
Sorry to read that your OH is still a bit under the weather @Obelix-Vendée. Hope he recovers soon.
Your meal sounds delicious @Penny_Forthem and you have mentioned one of my faves - cauliflower cheese - yum yum.
